Found Deceased MS - Gracelyn Vick, 6, Harrison County, 13 April 2025

MOO

For those who might be wondering, the autopsy won't be complete-complete until a toxicology is run, in case she ingested something. There's no evidence of that, in just explaining why it may take months to have a complete report.

The lid got stuck. Plain, simple and horribly tragic.

MOO

It was their own security camera... showed the area of the barrel. It was blocked so the view didn't show her actually very in the barrel but LE is certain she did. No one else was in the area.

I am broken for her family.

In their panic to find her, it must have completely skipped their mind to think to look at their cameras.

Full sympathy.

I have been sitting on my hands while following this case from the first few hours of her being reported missing. I'm sad to say that I'm thankful this child died accidentally and wasn't harmed by her loved ones. RIP beautiful Gracelyn I'm sorry your mama has had to deal with so much pain. I'm praying for this family. **MOO

She went inside the barrel on her own, closed the lid which got stuck.

Surveillance cameras showed it. No one else went in that area.
I'm not understanding what LE means from the presser. I'm having a hard time imagining this. Anyone with knowledge of 2 piece lids for feed barrels have any idea how this could be?

He said that "the lid was a 2 piece lid and the only way the lid could have been in the position it was in would be from the inside of the barrel. There would have been no way to put it in that position from the outside. It would have had to have been pushed"

Googling it it gives me this type of lids.

IF the outer lid (the screw-part) was already fastened, and IF the loose part (flat circle) was inside & she shove it up, to “hide” herself, maybe it can’t be picked apart from underneath? Maybe only from outside( pushing it in)??

Her poor mother. Tragedy after tragedy after tragedy. And fingers were pointed so many times over the past few days.
I hope that she can find some peace, but honestly, I don't know how she can. I wouldn't be able to function if I'd been through what she's been through.
Rest in heaven, sweet girl - watch over your poor mama.
IMO.

That is a picture of glass canning jar and lids. That's not a feed barrel.
The type feed barrel they are referencing is a large plastic drum probably with a gamma seal lid that is two pieces.

That is a canning jar lid. The ring screws on to hold the circle lid on, the lids do not attach without the ring & they're too large to fit all the way inside or it wouldn't work as a lid. It sits on top of the mouth, the ring on top of that.
I Googled "2 piece barrel lid" and got mostly ring & screw top lids. Opposite of a canning jar lid. The ring goes on first to add a threaded mouth & the top screws onto the ring. I suppose if she was able to screw it shut from inside, it would be hard to unscrew but not impossible.

It has to be a different kind. Maybe it had a latch on top that locked when the lid was closed...

LE also said it was difficult to explain when asked a question about it. I wish he had tried!

This can't be it, but thus far all I'm finding are 2-piece with screw lids. No way would she go inside and screw the lid on.

Our 55 gal red screw tops have a two-piece lid. The outer ring screws off while the inner lid, secure with a gasket, pushes into the opening making it air tight. These barrels are often used for food or feed storage
