Not sure that would necessarily make someone feel safe. Leaving friends and extended family behind would also be of concern. Your life, as you know it, would end.
On the other hand, if you were keen on getting away, it could certainly be a great option![]()
Anyone thinking about talking has considered the fact that their life will end, one way or another. The witness protection program gives them an alternative and the ability to do the right thing. Whole families have gone into protection, not extended, but immediate families. It's just about the only alternative available, and while I'm certain criminals have gotten their hands on one or two witnesses, they have a pretty good track record of preserving lives.
The worse thing that could possibly happen at this point would be the erosion of faith in a program which could very possibly be responsible for bringing her killer(s) to justice.
