Does the state have a chance for a rebuttal after the defense is done with their closing argument? I don't remember the procedure.

I was going to ask the same thing. I can't remember.

#JessicaChambers defense team is up. The defense immediately quotes Chambers as identifying Derek or Eric as the killer.

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 11m11 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers defense: first responders accurately identified what they heard.

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 11m11 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers defense: "what I found, and what I know you found, as well, is that you can hear, in the midst of all that noise; there were several trucks running." First responders would have heard Chambers accurately. They were "face to face" with the victim.

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 10m10 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers defense: The state's expert who said Chambers couldn't talk (1) wasn't there at the scene; and (2) can't speak with 100% certainty because medical science is far from certain.

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 7m7 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers defense: The state checked Chambers Eric/Derek contacts out on Facebook. Why did the state not swab those people for DNA? State downloaded a database to check for Eric/Derek. How did they search? "No; we used it to search against names we already had."

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 8m8 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers defense: State checked Eric/Derek against database. Not a thorough enough search, the defense posits.

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 5m5 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers defense: Victim's keys found two days later in ditch. Weak investigation of people in area and person who found them, defense argues. Keys were "a ha!" moment, defense says -- but not fully investigated.

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 4m4 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers defense re: cell data: "No tower in Courtland," defense notes. "No location data." Towers were in Batesville (to the north) and Pope (to the south). No location data on Tellis phone. Tellis voluntarily gave them the phone. LIVE NOW @LawCrimeNetwork

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 4m4 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers defense: First two Tellis interviews not recorded. "He was off track" with some things, but "we're a year later" after the incident. "Did he appear to be dishonest?" defense asks. Defense: "No; he kept talking . . . he's freely talking." @LawCrimeNetwork

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 2m2 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers defense: Defense says interrogators "lead him," "manipulate him" w/ regards to Tellis. Tellis wasn't being "dishonest," he was trying to recollect what happened 1 year earlier, the defense says. "I don't want to lie" Tellis told them. "We're 10 months later."

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 1m1 minute ago
#JessicaChambers defense: Tellis was trying to recall things that happened 10 months earlier; he was asking for prompts to help him remember. Defense notes that state did same thing with their own employees during interviews!

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 47s47 seconds ago
#JessicaChambers defense: State prodded other witnesses to refresh their memory, but when Tellis did, they accused him of lying.

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 58s58 seconds ago
#JessicaChambers defense: "I swear on my mamma I didn't do this," quoting Tellis.

#JessicaChambers defense: Tellis had just met Jessica; they were friends. He took her to the doc, gave her money for food, hung out, smoked. "They knew Quinton's name" even though his name wasn't in the Chambers phone.

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 1m1 minute ago
#JessicaChambers defense: "I delete my text messages every other day," defense says. Deleting texts shows "absolutely nothing."

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 1m1 minute ago
#JessicaChambers defense: Defense witnesses show how investigators would "harass" witnesses. "It's how they do business," the defense argues. CLOSING ARGUMENTS LIVE NOW @LawCrimeNetwork

Bridget Chapman‏Verified account @bchapman_WREG3 2m2 minutes ago
"They knew his name. Come on now, let's use common sense," the defense says in regards to the state saying #JessicaChambers never called #QuintonTellis by any name.

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 46s46 seconds ago
#JessicaChambers defense: "It's how [they] do business, and how business continued to be done in this case," with regards to what might be characterized as strong-arm police tactics. LIVE CLOSING ARGUMENTS @LawCrimeNetwork

Defense is now talking about Ms. Flowers (the woman who picked up an unknown man that night). She brings up how Flowers just came forward this June. "Does something seem a little suspicious to you?" she asks. "It seems made up to me."

Aaron Keller‏ @AKellerLawCrime 2m2 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers defense: "Seems made up to me" with regards to the witness who suddenly came forward and claims to have picked up a mystery hitchhiker - "It's just not right to manipulate the puzzle . . . it makes me a little bit emotional to say that." @LawCrimeNetwork

It makes no sense he'd do this to her after a few weeks? Why not? Some men kill women after only a few minutes!

How is she allowed to put in her personal opinion, when there's no evidence to back it up? It's also her PERSONAL OPINION that her GUILTY client did not murder Jessica Chambers.

The defense attorney just said "sex was part of the issue here." Do you mean that was his MOTIVE?

#JessicaChambers defense concedes that "sex was some of the issue," but it "makes no sense he would do this to her after only [knowing Chambers] a few weeks." LIVE CLOSING ARGUMENTS RIGHT NOW @LawCrimeNetwork

I think that a closing argument has to be limited to the evidence introduced at trial.
So, I think that Judge Gerald Chatham erred when he overruled John Champion's objection to Darla Palmer's new assertion that Jessica had a boyfriend named Eric, for which there was no evidence during the trial.
