March 8
The search continued Monday for a Mississippi man who’s been missing for 10 days.

His vehicle was discovered along I-22 near exit 18 in Marshall County on March 3. It’s an area that’s about 50 miles from his home.

“We can’t come up with a reason for him being in Marshall County or even in that area,” said Kelly McMillan with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say Nava had no cell phone on him and that his keys weren’t in his vehicle.

EXCLUSIVE: Family of missing Pontotoc County man asks public for help

March 8
A Pontotoc County family is desperately searching for one of their own and they are asking for the public's help.

Family members last saw Jose Nava, 21, on February 28th.

Since then, the Nava family is using every resource they have to find him; including social media, fliers, t-shirts and searches.

Jose is one of 11 siblings and he is the youngest of the boys.

Over the weekend, they organized a search in the area of Marshall County where someone found his vehicle. It now sits in the Nava family's yard.

Meanwhile, the Nava family is depending on its faith. They created several alters in their home in honor of Jose.

The Chief Investigator Major Kelly McMillen with the Marshall County Sheriff's Office said there is a reward that is being offered for any information that leads to finding Jose.

Does anyone know anything about Jose's background. Is there any chance we was buying or selling anything or meeting someone? Just trying to link why nobody knows why he was in this area? Was his car broken down or just dumped randomly?

Search ongoing for missing man

A four-day search for a missing man from Pontotoc County did not bear fruit, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson.

Jose Ramon Nava, 21, went missing around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, February 28. His family reported him missing Monday, March 1, on Facebook, the sheriff said. He was apparently driving a white Jeep.

Wednesday, March 3, as a woman from Pontotoc was driving to Memphis, Tenn., along the interstate, she spotted the vehicle after having seen the posting by Nava’s family on social media. The driver contacted the family, who verified the Jeep headed westbound was Nava’s.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department got a call from Nava’s family at noon March 3 and said he was missing, Dickerson said. That was confirmed by Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Department.

In the investigation, Marshall County authorities learned Nava had apparently been seen Monday, March 1, around 7 a.m. In a neighborhood in the Mary Lane area just off I-22. It was reported to authorities that he was knocking on doors.

Nava was not successful in getting help and was seen returning to the area of the Jeep on the interstate, Mills said.

Investigators said Nava’s Jeep may have broken down and he could have been seeking help at the mobile home visible from I-22. He also knocked on doors at other residences before leaving the Mary Lane area, Sheriff Dickerson said.

A set of camo Crocs was found off the interstate in the wood line near the white Jeep, he said.

Authorities still seeking information on missing Pontotoc County man

March 11
Pontotoc County Sheriff Leo Mask said his department and the Sheriff’s Department in Marshall County are still seeking information on the whereabouts of Pontotoc County resident Jose Nava.

“For the past week we’ve been communicating with the family and authorities in Marshall County and we’re running down leads and sorting through information,” Sheriff Mask said late Wednesday (March 10) evening. “There have been discrepancies in the information we’ve been receiving, we’re trying to get the facts.

There have been reports that he has been seen a couple of times, but so far those reports have not been accurate,” Mask said. “The family says they still haven’t heard from him and right now we’re still hoping to get some information to help locate him. Obviously the family is very upset and worried.”

His car, since that photo but before he went missing, has a broken headlight and missing both bumpers, was he a terrible driver? Why didn’t he have a cell phone? A 21 year old without a phone baffles me! And if he knocked on doors at 7am he likely was out and driving at 5/6am? wondering if he was dealing with some addiction or depression :(
Hope he shows up again ASAP!!

I was thinking the same about the phone. But, it says “not on him”. Could his phone been found at his home? It is odd for someone his age not to have one even if it was usable only for emergencies or WiFi. Also, the discrepancy on his shorts. Who saw him last? Because black with a red stripe is distinct then it was reported as brown shorts and the sightings can’t be verified. Very odd disappearance as of now.

I just watched that plea for help and it breaks my heart. They need answers. It saddens me to think that those rumors are probably true and my heart just breaks.

+wonder if they were suspicious of him and reacted badly to him.
That's what I thought, too. I mean, they do live off of an interstate so who knows if a language/age/ethnicity barrier might have been in play here. I just don't understand why he hasn't been located. If someone at/near that residence harmed him thinking they were justified in doing so, why hide him?

Help Jose Ramon Nava Return Home
March 6
Post includes a short video of a search done for Jose and it also includes a link to an article with info on things found during a search. Unfortunately, I don’t know enough Spanish to translate the article to see if the info shared is found in this particular article (linked below).

I did come across this article however.

SHERIFF: Several hundred volunteers searching for missing man from Mississippi

...
Lopez says last week Nava’s car was found in Marshall County near exit 18 on I-22 in Victoria, MS, locked and empty. Not far away from the car, she says they found bullet casings and even traces of blood.

“We found some shoes too where his car was parked, but police say it wasn’t enough to suspect foul play,” said Lopez.
