First a "Missing child", then treated as an "Abduction" now it's not being treated as an abduction anymore. So what's the deal? It's beginning to look very bleak for this toddler. :banghead:

As far as mom leaving for so long, when my peanut was just 6 weeks old I remember leaving daddy in charge and "escaping" the house to Wal-mart for hours on end just to have a break. If I had as many kids as Myra's mom I would run every chance I got. I don't think that there is anything wrong with her being gone so long. JMO of course.

Wow. Sheriff Randy Tucker stated that he is NOT investigating the case as an abduction and that family IS cooperating. Leads are coming in. Interesting!

@WLBT_DKenney: Sheriff Tucker says he is NOT investigating this case as an abduction. Family is cooperating and leads are coming in http://t.co/eoVAD9u4TP

ETA: Here is more from WLBT:

"Sheriff Tucker said he is NOT investigating this case as an abduction, and the family is cooperating in the investigation. He also said leads are coming in.

The news conference was brief, and just before it started 11 cars of MHP troopers and Madison County Sheriff's Deputies left headquarters headed toward Camden.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues its Amber Alert for Lewis. Myra's parents believe she was abducted this past weekend."

So I am just catching up here, does anyone know why her parents feel so strongly that she was abducted? Why does the sheriff not think that she was abducted?

Because she is gone and nowhere to be found. If my child had been missing for several days, I would also think that. Wouldn't most? The sheriff can only think (publicly) what he has the evidence to think. If there is no evidence of abduction, he can't really blast that on the news and freak out the whole community.

I don't know. This is a strange situation.

(Sorry, I'm not trying to be condescending...I hope it didn't come across that way.)

I don't know why her parents feel this way. The FBI ERT came into the home and grabbed three bags of evidence today. Maybe they found something that proved she wasn't abducted. Maybe after talking to the parents, children and matching up their stories, it additionally supports this. I am not saying they did anything, but I will say that from everything I have listened to and read, something doesn't add up and I don't think it's because we aren't privy to the info. I didnt ever feel it was an abduction. Yes, the child may have wondered off, but something could have happen to her and I think it was probably an accident or because she was sick. I heard in an interview she had bronchitis. This is why I think the police are ruling out abduction. They have to be certain that it didn't occur, which would mean they have to be certain that something else took place.

If she wasn't abducted, she likely wandered off and died somewhere.
I'd believe abduction if I was a pair of innocent parents too. :twocents:

I've not heard or read anything about the sheriff discounting abduction. afaik, no scenario has been ruled out.

A reporter said that they were not investigating it as an abduction, that is where that came from.
I believe this is what was actually said:

He made clear that reports that the investigation is classified as a kidnapping did not come from anyone authorized to speak for his office.

Typical: We aren't saying what happened but if someone said it, it wasn't us. :seeya:

Well, this article gives us some kind of a timeline.

Bolded by me. I am totally confused right now. If Myra went into the house with her siblings, why did they tell the dad she went with the mom? Did they see her getting in the car, similar to the one their mum drives? Or what...?

Could be very simple. Little Myra tells the others she's going with mama. And runs back outside. Sad thing is, it sounds as if the parents split/share the parenting. Both taking an active part in caring for their kids, such as daddy making lunch. From what I've read of that timeline, both parents work together and did the right thing. Many rural people take much longer with grocery shopping than city folks. Usually doing it once a week verses running to a store daily to pick up needed items. It would also make total sense to do a couple other errands while out grocery shopping, almost every time I go, I come back later than I planned on returning.

My heart goes out to this family.

I am not about to start speculating that she drove up to an hour to go grocery shopping. If others want to do that, that's fine. I speculate all day long, but find that a far stretch as grocery shopping is something that is typically done local. Shopping is typically done anywhere, which is what she may have meant or even said.

I live about 15 miles from the Walmart where I usually go shopping, and it can easily take me 3 hours, including drive time because of traffic, and because I take my time shopping. I am not only buying groceries, but household goods as well, in the same store.

Could it be that Mom stopped for a bite to eat, either before going grocery shopping, or on the way home? Or perhaps grocery shopping includes shopping for other things in a dollar store or other discount store as well.

I actually do think she did or that she told the reporter it was stores and it came out store. That is what I posted and it turned into a she for sure could have shopped at one store for the whole time because that's how it works in the rural areas, which wasn't my point or what I said. Not aiming this at you, but I felt my opinion was trying to be proved wrong.

Is the amber alert still on? I just read that it called off, but would be reactivated if need be...ummm..OK. Off to find that link!

I am just heartsick about this baby. It is so cold outside. I just don't see how she can survive much longer if she's been out wandering around, lost in the woods.

Please let this case be one of those miracles with a happy ending. Please.
