my three year old suddenly loves to hide. it was cute a month or two ago, bc we would just follow the giggles and find him. well now he hides and is totally silent. I'm trying to teach him that if I yell his entire name, that means NO MORE HIDING! come out and show yourself, now! he actually was hiding in a nearly empty bag of hog food, I was searching along with my older boys, we walked right past that bag numerous times before he popped out. really, it was a looong couple of minutes.... kids will hide in crazy places!!

I hate to think it, but I agree with other posts, this long... just not a good sign.

A pig farm, maybe? My friends have a pig farm & bags of pig/hog feed.

Myra is two. It's a rural area. I don't understand why they haven't used heat seeking technology. Idk, maybe they have and we just don't know. Has anyone heard anything about that? Is there some reason I'm overlooking why they wouldn't have a helicopter in the air fairly quickly here???

I'm still not seeing foul play here. And I will jump on that band wagon early if I think there is a reason to believe that. Her parents appear to be poor and rural. That is not a crime! From what I've seen she was well loved. . .nothing hinky.

I hope I'm right, and I hope I'm not. Right, in that she just wandered off and wrong, in that I think her chances are not good in the elements for this length of time. . .ponds included. Sounds weird, but I keep hoping she was picked up by some clueless good Samaritan. I know that is probably not the case. I just really want her to be ok. . .and for some odd reason I feel she is. I hope I'm not wrong. raying:

ETA. . .I used to teach in an inner city school. She is just every precious little girl I ever taught. . .cute as all get out, spunky, and has a million strikes against her before she's even out of the gates. Hang in there, Myra!!!!

I agree with you on so many points! Just wanted to point out that a helicopter was used from the beginning of the search. It was referenced in an article and I saw film on the news. I also think her family is rural, but that doesn't necessarily mean poor. They just might be country, kwim?

That would make sense.. :blushing: I was so sure it was a typo, mostly because I've only known wild hogs in a scary menace context (and we recently had baby possums hiding in our bags of dog food!). Time for coffee!

Hiding from parents is great fun, almost every kid I've ever known has done it at least once, some of them several times. But like you, I am just afraid this won't turn out to be good, with this many days missing. I've got three boys, all grown and every one of them have given us a scare a few times. I can't imagine what parents feel when one is so young and missing for almost a week. It would kill me!

Just a couple of snippets from today's C-L article. Most of it is what we have already read. The only new thing is that they are resuming the search today. It sounds like to me that these guys just don't want to give up on her. I also included the quote about the dogs and Metro One, the helicopter used in the search, since it had been asked about and I had not found the link. The weather here today so far is overcast and dreary. 45 degrees with light rain.

I check this thread many times a day, hoping against hope that Myra has been found. I can't believe she's been gone so long. I hope they find her today. Her parents must be going crazy with worry.

OMG FL, I would freak out. I am sure that you are like me, after being on here for so long I am far more protective and have a very creative imagination as to what could have happened. Thank God he is fine.

MADISON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Wildlife officials are no longer helping out with a ground search for 2-year-old Myra Lewis. That information has been confirmed by Department of Wildlife public relations director, Jim Walker.

It seems to indicate a shift in how officials are investigating the case.

We're working on getting more information about the new approach, and will bring you those details as soon as possible.

I'm trying to do 10 things at once, but I'm seeing these tweets on my timeline in the last 15 minutes. So they're definitely still searching. No disrespect here, but the C-L reporter who wrote that article has been phoning it in since Monday. Some of the tv people who are tweeting are on scene and Apel is not and she stopped tweeting about Myra pretty much on Monday.

I have a read book that outlines some interesting MP cases involving toddlers who have wandered crazy distances. It's hard to explain how they got so far and across the terrain that they did. Several were found in and around fallen trees as though they had sought shelter. Some were found alive, others were not. It boggles the mind.
