I think Myra died and was disposed of. The family did move and left no forwarding address. They seem to have made it impossible for the Madison Co. SO to get in touch with them. I would want the SO to be able to reach me in case of any new develpments about my missing child. There is a podcast by a local crime reporter with a lengthy interview with the sherriff. He reveals more information than was publicly known back then. I think I linked it on this thread last year.
I think this is the transcript of that interview or possibly another one. Either way there’s definitely additional information. I won’t cut and paste - it’s long - but anyone still following Myra’s case should take the time to read it. JMO

Twelve years after toddler Myra Lewis vanished from her Camden home, her grandmother is speaking publicly and sharing her own theory about what may have led to the child’s disappearance.

Martha Sanders said the question of what happened to Myra has never left her.

Now, a dozen years later, Sanders said she believes a family member of Myra’s played a role in the disappearance, including an allegation that Myra may have been sold.

“I know he had something to do with it. There’s no doubt on that,” Sanders said.

From your link:

In the days that followed, search teams scoured the area on the ground and from the air as the community mobilized to find the little girl. Myra’s mother, Erica Lewis, made a public plea at the time.

“I just need help on finding her. Whoever has her, just bring her home. Please. That’s my baby, not your baby,” Erica Lewis said in 2014.

While I agree that at least one parent knows what happened I don’t quite buy the theory that Myra was sold. For one thing, how could one parent sell her with the other having no clue?

For another I question why a “buyer” would continue to keep Myra while LE conducted a serious and comprehensive search for her. Why not just drop her off somewhere and eliminate the risk?

Of course criminals tend to be stupid so anything could happen. But statistically it’s more likely that Myra died due to accident, abuse or neglect.

I’d love to be proven wrong and would celebrate Myra’s recovery. But in my heart I feel like this sweet little girl ended up in a landfill or a secluded grave. All MOO.
