that MSM link offers no LE confirmation, just what the family has reported. So sad for them... as someone else suggested, a car accident. Hug your loved ones... we just never know...

Law enforcement said they have not determined the cause of death or if foul play is suspected.

"He and his vehicle were found in a wooded area near Highway 82 and Highway 45 in Lowndes County.

From your link...

Cory Baughn wrecked his car in some undergrowth in Mississippi and never left the vehicle.

His sister gave this information to ABC 33/40. We are waiting on official confirmation from police.

Such a sad situation for his family, especially so soon after his mother’s death. My condolences.

ETA- Just read the link above...not sure if foul play was involved.

I am still just so sad for this family. I was literally on the same road in that area on that same day. This is probably my first case here that I was in the vicinity of something ont the day it happened. I am just heartbroken to think that maybe I drove past without realizing that someone was lying there hurt. :(

Lisa K. Corbin Baughn
Under this obituary on his mother, this week’s e-edition (front page image) is available.
The article states he was involved in a car accident. He was found inside his car (wooded area) near the Hwy 82 bypass (Hwy 82 & 45). The way it appears on the map, this is not an extremely secluded area..appears to be businesses, etc around.

Hmm...the area that I am thinking of is not a business area. Mostly farmland and woods out that way.

I could very well be looking at the map wrong or looking at a different bypass.

I've been trying to figure out exactly where his car was found. The area of the junction of 82 and 45 is pretty rural. Waiting on my local sources to let me know if they have any further details.

Quoting myself to say that I have no new information. Just that any businesses along this route are the type that are spread out with acreage in between them. Typical rural highway until you get to the community college.

Family of missing man who prompted search donates $5K for SPD drone program
[...]

On Saturday morning, Starkville and Oktibbeha County officials gathered at the SPD headquarters for a presentation of a $5,135 check from the family of Cory Baughn — an Alabama man who went missing in November and whose body and vehicle were found in a wooded area near Highway 82 and Highway 45 in Lowndes County after a two-week search. Foul play was not suspected.

[...]

“Cory was from Alabama, they knew that but they acted like it was their son or their cousin,” Baughn said. “I was never disappointed. I would like for this check to be at their discretion, if they want a new service revolver or want to get some new boots to work in, or a drone, that’s my wish. I can’t thank them enough.”
