If articles in the news media are questionable (and some have certainly been found to have erred), and blogs are considered even less reliable, where does that leave tweets?

SBM & BBM

Why don't you just copy and paste everything they post that you like and post it here with a link?

It's possible that your definition and my definition of a good poster are different Ranch. In this instance, I am referring to the posters that post thoughts and opinions and who also research and are able to back it up with links. I like to see things for myself and not take someone's word for it, but that's just me.

Why would I copy and paste and post a link? I don't think I'm understanding?

I don't know anything about good or bad posters but why can't you bring their information here with a link if you like what they are saying?

If you research and find the source of the information you wish to share then reddit is irrelevant. JMO

If we didn't use reddit as a source at all, we wouldn't have had any of the documentation. It was reddit that started the crowdfunding which raised the $1000's to get all the documents, transcripts and photo's. I have said before... they have some great posters... on both sides of the fence (because I do read all the subs over there), if we could pluck them out and bring them over here, it would be great!

SBM

Clearly it is going to be the people who aren't complacent who are going to make an effort and do more research into any case. That is the value of skeptics and critics. Otherwise there'd be no reason to discuss the great wisdom handed down to us from our betters in officialdom.

I do check out one of the reddit threads for news, as there does seem to be quite a few people there who are paying attention to potential developments in the case. On occasion I have brought information from there to here for consideration. I hope I haver done this in a manner which is appropriate to the standards here.

All my opinion, naturally.

not sure if that would be breaking the rules, so for now, I won't. But maybe if I ever feel the need to do that, I will ask a mod for advice before doing so :)

Members have been bringing facts from reddit and blogs with impunity on the sub forum for quite a while. I don't see why it should be a problem.

JF = John Ferak. He writes for Post Crescent.

You make a good point Ranch. How do we verify, that someone has verified it? Does agreeing with something mean you have verified it?

All very confusing. JMO
I don't think I've ever read anything written by John Ferak. With so much "fake news" and "alternative facts" out there in the world, it can indeed be confusing.

For myself I don't consider things from Reddit or WS as any kind of 'official' source, nor do I consider articles from MSM official either. They are sources used to discuss aspects of a case, but in and of themselves they are ultimately someone's interpretation of what they saw or heard or read. The exception to that is when trial transcripts and exhibits have been made available and published and those links are provided in a site.

In the end, even trial transcripts are typically going to consist of people who give their opinions as a 'witness' or an 'expert', etc. We will always rely more or less on their interpretations of what they allegedly observed, and rely on counsel's ability to bring out relevant information that will help us interpret whether the testimony is reliable.

As photographers know, even photographs are selective in how the photo is framed to highlight one thing and exclude another. Obviously, the exhibits chosen to be included in a trial are already vulnerable to subjectivity - not everything discovered is put before a jury. It will typically be a compendium of material one side or the other thought useful to build their interpretation of events.

My opinions, nothing more.

In trials at least there's cross examination. It's not a perfect system but it's the best we have, the best anyone's come up with since this country started.

Most of the time juries get it right. No, not all the time and certainly not as often in the days before DNA testing was available and eyewitness testimony was the basis for many convictions. Forensic evidence, when available, is quite compelling, which is why organizations like the Innocence Project require DNA testing to be used.

I personally don't think it really matters what people discuss or find out through their research on public forums except for the debate value of it all and the discussions that ensue.
Steven Avery is convicted of the murder of Teresa Halbach with a life without parole term, and the only thing that will change now is if his new legal team that are putting forth a case for wrongful conviction, which they have to back up with new evidence that wasn't discovered in the Trial, and proves SA didn't commit the murder he was convicted of.
I think if someone has or finds anything of value that would help get SA out of a wrongful conviction incarceration they would share that information with Steven's legal team, who are working on his case.
I think the Reddit forum has some value but it is mostly like any other forum discussing the case, and depending on what their own thoughts and findings are in their discussions, but at the end of the day KZ and her team will bring forth the results and hopefully put this case to rest once and for all. JMO.
