MSNBC to Imus: You're FIRED!

  • #161
Yeah, I got your point. I know there are white leaders in this country but white people don't have a figurative Sharpton or Jackson.

Maybe not, but we do have loud-mouth, bigoted white men who claim to be leaders- Falwell and Robertson come to mind. They may not be MY leader, but I'm sure you'd find many black people who don't feel Sharpton or Jackson represents them, either.

Well, even if we set elected officials aside, we still have O'Reilly, Beck, Coulter, Hannity and Limbaugh. They are as ready as anybody to kick up a fuss over the slightest, perceived slight (which is what people are accusing Sharpton and Jackson of doing).

Maybe if African Americans had better media access, they wouldn't need the travelin' preachers...

That's actually scary to think that someone like O'Reilly is a representative for my race. I can't stand the guy.

I heard him on the radio today...he said every time a rapper says anything degrading he's going to make mention of it on his show. Good luck with that, Bill.

Falwell, Robertson, O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, Limbaugh, etc certainly don't speak for me, and I know Sharpton and Jackson don't speak for all blacks.

I guess there isn't a level-headed, civil, non-hateful "spokesman" for either side.

Does Ann Coulter even qualify as a human being?

Can we give her away to another race?

Hehe, don't know if you guys ever watched Chappelle show on Comedy Central but he had a skit called the "Race Draft" where each race was represented like a team and were drafting various people for their respective races.

I saw that, Paladin! Pretty funny.

Yes, we can give AC away, as long as O'reilly goes with her. Kind of a two-for-one?

No, I never saw that Chappelle skit but I'm sure it was hilarious. I miss his show.

I am positive. Philamena - Don Imus' entire career has been based on being SHOCKING and CONTROVERSIAL. Those are the traits that made him famous and those are the reasons why both CBS and MSNBC hired him. Satellite radio is not monitored like public radio, which is one of the reasons why Howard Stern went to Sirius. Don't forget - Stern and Imus are rivals.

I do a lot of work with Sirius and I am willing to put money on the fact that they most likely already contacted him or his agent. It all comes down to dollar signs.
Masterj,
Thanks for the explanation. Earlier tonight I head that some stations may well carry Imus's radio show...not sure how much NBC has to do with that.

Rev Al Sharpton turns my stomach - he's a freaking spotlight seeker and spotlight hog. Here's a nice little article about his antics.....
http://www.nationalreview.com/20Mar00/nordlinger032000.html

From your link:

Sharpton’s rhetoric could also be rather less high-flown. “If the Jews want to get it on,” he said, “tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house.”

Then Jesse Jackson referred to Jews as "Hymies" and to New York City as "Hymietown" in January 1984 during a conversation with Washington Post reporter, Milton Coleman

And what about Rev Jackson & Karin Stanford............:D

It seems the term nappy head means something different in the UK. Check out this link. The link is for a children's clothing line made in the UK.

(regarding that comment from al sharpton about 'his people'....)

and another thing... why can't i refer to my people as, well,, 'my people'...?? why are we not allowed to do that, without being immediately branded as nazis? caucasians aren't allowed to have a 'people'.. we're supposed to be ashamed of our history and culture while everyone else gets to celebrate theirs. we are supposed to accept everyone else and their cultures (even ones we may not care for- OOPS we're not allowed to dislike any other cultures either).. and meanwhile, the other ethnic groups all get to band together and segregate themselves with 'their people' and their culture, because they feel more comfortable with their own kind. but if we do that, we're racists.

(keep in mind, there are those who easily move across society with all its ethnic backgrounds and don't have any preference either way. but those aren't the ones i'm referring to here... i'm talking about the ones who segregate themselves.)

i mean, picture this folks-- can you imagine the uproar, the outrage, the incessant public debate, the rioting, the looting, the gnashing of teeth, the endless media coverage.. that would take place if a public figure said to sharpton (or some other black leader- although i don't really consider sharpton a leader of anything except BS..) "mr. sharpton, regarding YOU and YOUR PEOPLE...." in other words, HE is allowed to say that (segregate himself with words).. but no one else, or rather, no one with light skin would ever DARE to say that.

this is the kind of double-standard i'm talking about, that someday blacks are going to have to address should they ever decide to take a good, hard, critical look at themselves and their behavior in modern american society.

(again, for the blacks who are more enlightened than this,, this does not apply to you! i really need to keep repeating this disclaimer, due to the always-predictable "well, not ALL blacks do this, stop generalizing" response.)

really, REALLY, dumb.

IMO, there are non-hateful spokesmen for each side.

The challenge, imo, is for people on the "opposing side" (whichever side that might be) to take their blinders off in order to see that. I'm not talking about you, Shopper- I'm responding in general terms to your post. I'm just saying it's super easy to have a knee jerk response to people from the other side (again, whichever side that might be).

That surely is true, IMO; whether it's color, politics, sexroles, anything that can be polarizing.

I don't think Ann Coulter and O'Reilly are in the same league...

O'Reilly appears at least to have compassion about certain things - children, victims, etc.

I get sick of his yelling, but somethimes he's right on about certain things - like he predicted right away that the British Sailors would be released.

Ann Coulter, as far as I can see, has no feelings and no heart

I have to question this...I almost wonder if has this compassion because it equals ratings. Who knows.

You mean like O'Reilly had compassion for Shawn Hornsbeck? Yeah, he sure showed Shawn compassion by accusing him of "liking" his situation with that monster...

I haven't read the rest of this thread except for the first few posts, but this is how I feel:
This is a race and gender card. I really feel they made an example of Don Imus because he;s an older radio "dinosaur" and they wanna go after rap next.

Snoop still does commercials for the sidekick and T-Mobile, and has called women worse things than B's and Ho's in his songs. They didn't fire him.

Ludacris raps and sings about smackin his B's around and how he loves his Ho's. He's still in movies and commercials, too.

No woman should ever be referred to nor refer to each other as B's or otherwise.

Imus apologized, and they should have moved on. And if they simply couldn't, I am waiting for these other companies to start lopping off some heads, or there are going to be problems.

You must not have heard any of Ludacris's new music :=)

Lord, please forgive me for the mistakes I've made
And thanks for keepin my momma safe when she wrecked my Escalade
See I could replace a Cadillac but I can't replace my momma
I'm sorry for the hip-hop beefs, we sorry for the drama
But you gotta understand us rappers ain't never had nothin
And one's loss is another's gain so we gotta grab somethin
Lord, got so many questions I need the answers to
And sorry for the thangs I put my baby's mama through
I feel that women are really the strongest human beings
but why do you make 'em so emotional, and other minor things
I guess it's your way of sayin we gotta love 'em and gotta praise 'em
cause without 'em we'd be nothin, plus our kids they gotta raise 'em
while we, out and about and seein what life has to offer
But if you offer a new life then what we need is better fathers
Either I'm smarter cause of my daughter or I'm just too dense
I'm 28 years old, it just now started makin sense
And I've been...

Anyway..I just posted this on another thread, but this is the thing. If I am listening to a rap song then I expect that I may hear a reference to B's and ho's...I don't expect it when discussing a women's basketball team on national radio.

It's comparing apples to oranges...IMO.

Really - well I don't watch him that much; my husband does.

Actually I CAN'T STAND HIS SHOW, for the most part, I was just trying to be "politically correct". He's passionate about whatever he thinks is right; I still don't put him in the same boat as Coulter. He doesn't quite use the same kind of language.

wow--Ludacris lyrics are soooo moronic--typical rap/hip-hop mindless junk--too funny
