Man pleads not guilty to leaving baby in Montana woods

MISSOULA — An Oregon man pleaded not guilty Tuesday (7/31/18) to two felony charges alleging he abandoned a 5-month-old baby who survived for nine hours in the woods of western Montana under a pile of debris.

Francis Carlton Crowley, 32, of Portland, entered his plea to assault on a minor and criminal endangerment. He appeared via video in District Court in Missoula and remains jailed on $200,000 bail.
[.....]
District Judge Karen Townsend set another court hearing for October.

Why, oh why, do reporters not give us a court date??!! Frustrating.

This one explains the Oregon charges:

Portland man pleads not guilty to leaving baby in Montana woods

Crowley's infant nephew and the boy's mother, Crowley's sister, were
reported missing from Clackamas County in June to Oregon State Police. A social
media campaign to find the pair reported they were located weeks before the crash.
The baby found in Montana is the same age and shares the same initials as Crowley's nephew.
Crowley faces a misdemeanor charge in Multnomah County of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer in March. He didn't attend a subsequent court hearing, and a judge issued a warrant for his arrest. The warrant remains active.

and geez... this one gives a different court date....

Man accused of burying baby alive in the woods pleads not guilty
the-woods-pleads-not-guilty
Crowley is due back in court in September.

His bail remains set at $200,000.

If convicted, Crowley faces up to 20 years in prison and $100,000 in fines.

So.... wondering if it will be September or October. I shall put this on my Sept. list....

or if someone finds a date - it would be very appreciated! :)

Evidence request made in case of man charged with leaving baby in woods

We’re learning new information about the case of a five-month-old baby who was found partially buried in the woods near Lolo Hot Springs last July as the man accused of doing it gears up for trial.

Francis Crowley, 32, faces felony assault on a minor and felony criminal endangerment charges in connection with the incident.

[...]

Crowley’s defense team filed a motion this week to suppress evidence in the case, which includes any statements made to authorities that night.

The motion claims deputies did not read Crowley his rights before they started questioning him about the baby’s whereabouts and since there is no way to determine exactly when that happened, all statements made to authorities much be ruled out.

The judge will have to consider the request before the start of the Crowley’s trial.

Why would anyone let someone like this take care of a baby?

And now, motion to suppress evidence because deputies may not have read this guy his rights?! How about exigent circumstances? Meaning where the heck is the baby?! Buried? Seriously.

We have gone crazy on rights of the criminals, rather than their victims.

Thank You...UGH....so freakin frustrating. Obviously the officers were urgently trying to find a missing baby, who happened to be buried alive in the woods. but now the courts will let this guy potentially walk free because of an oversight ?
