GUILTY MT - Beverly, 79, Gregory Giannonatti, 57, murdered, Deer Lodge, 24 Oct 2015

  • #381
Beverly's ex-husband Bill passed away in October 2015 as a result of shingles.

Sorry I messed up the dates here. Bill passed away in August. It was a real surprise. I had talked with him about 2 weeks before his death and he appeared his usual grumpy self.

It's not incredibly common for inmate families to move close to a prison. They usually quite honestly don't have funds to relocate.

Thanks Deerlodgelifer. My comment was more in regards to the type of people that would move into town to be near their loved ones that are in prison. I'm sure inmates get out of town fast when released, but their families are living there while they are incarcerated.

The Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge is the largest prison in the state. It houses 1500 inmates and "houses some of the most violent offenders in the state." http://cor.mt.gov/Adult/MSP There is also a Work and Reentry facility outside of the prison. It's one of the prisons where they house the prisoners with the longest sentences. In cases with long or life sentences, the families very often do move close to the prison. I have lived in a town with a large prison like that and it does very much impact the population demographics of the town, even if the locals and town officials don't want to admit it.

As a sad footnote to this story, Beverly's sister passed away last week and was layed to rest today.

Too bad Nelson can't be charged with her death as well.......I'm sure all of that chaos factored in somehow.

I think the cops must have a pretty good idea where the gold is. Why would Nelson open up and confess to everything, and I mean everything, but conveniently leave out that part, pretty much the biggest question out there ? It's not like he's going to get out of prison and dig it up someday. Hopefully he never got his hands on it.....which would only serve to deepen the mystery.

Also, any additional word on whether or not he is connected to the break-in at Greg's house ? I don't mean the one regarding the silver bars, I mean the one right after mom and son disappeared.

The Sheriff is playing his cards close to his vest. There is nothing new on the break-in at Greg's or the gold. Nelson has not been charged as of yet.

If Nelson has confessed to killing them and even led LE to their bodies...... what do you think the delay is in charging him with murder ?

Off topic but how silly do I feel I always thought it was " playing his cards close to his chest" haha all these years I was saying it wrong [emoji23]

Maybe just because there is no reason to rush to make the charges? He is already in prison for 5 years on the probation violations. LE can get together a nice air-tight case before they proceed with the charges.

:) I believe it is correct both ways...depends on what part of the country you are in.

I suppose offering a $10,000 reward for the return of the gold bar would come across as pretty silly and poorly thought out wouldn't it ?

Very astute thinking....

The sheriff knows who broke into Greg's house. A local meth user broke in looking for drugs and has been bragging around town about it. The sheriff is aware of the guy but nothing has been done, he has not been detained.

I wonder why he hasn't been arrested .

FWIW. The house being broken into after it was already reported that he was missing might not be related. Criminals often use information from local newspapers to determine if a home ripe for the picking. Like breaking into a home because they saw that a person recently died and the relatives will be attending the funeral.

It seems like a fairly prominent family. The late husband was a district judge, she is a business woman that owns rental properties. The break-in might have just been a crime of opportunity.

Friends of the family have set up a Facebook page, Help Find Beverly Giannonatti & Greg Giannonatti: https://www.facebook.com/BevandGregGianonatti/?fref=nf

Beverly's late husband wasn't a district judge, it was her friend Gayle's husband who was the district judge. At one time, Beverly had worked as a court reporter.
