GUILTY MT - Beverly, 79, Gregory Giannonatti, 57, murdered, Deer Lodge, 24 Oct 2015

Puzzling stuff, this one. I'll have to remember to keep checking back.

  • #82
So some of us are thinking these two disappeared voluntarily?

I don't get the feeling she did, but that maybe he did. I could be way off base but the "break in" is just too weird. Has anyone found anything on social media about Gregory? Anyone (besides his mom's friend) looking for him? Sharing info that he's missing? Anyone at all that knows him?

Bouncing off Claire's timeline, I'm sorting one out for myself to help organize my brain.

Aug 31 - Dad/XHusband William Giannonatti Died
Oct 19 - Gold bar found in William's house.
Oct 28 11am - Beverly is seen at Muriah’s restaurant in Deer Lodge with unknown Man in his 60s
Oct 28 10pm - Greg seen driving away from his residence in a 1995 white Camry at a speed faster than normal, and heading east toward downtown Deer Lodge.
Oct 31 - Beverly's friends ask for welfare check after not showing up to events.
Oct 31 - Officers check Beverly's House and Greg's house but do not enter.
Oct 31 11:32pm - Beverly's phone is used.
Nov 1 - Officers gained entrance to both homes.
Nov 1 9:14pm and 11:39pm - Gregory's phone was used (could this be the phone left at Gregs home that came up missing?)
Nov 2 - Officers found Greg's home to be burglarized at some point between the 1st and 2nd.
Nov 2 - Gegory's car found at Williams home in Larkspur (not sure if this is correct date).

Am I missing anything?

It was the same day the police had been there:

In another odd twist to the situation, Sheriff Howard said that late in the evening on Nov. 1 a burglary was reported at the home of Gregory Giannonatti, where the police had been earlier that day. When authorities arrived they discovered the flat screen TV in the yard, clothing in bags and a cell phone that had been at the residence earlier was now gone.
The Sheriff also noted two weapons may also have been taken from the residence.

Question about their phones being used - wasn't it said those were incoming calls, not outgoing?

Yes, there was an article that said they were incoming calls. I'll see if I can find it.

I just can't imagine that the son would leave his dog behind if he chose to leave. Leaving food cooking yes but not a pet.

Update on the phone calls. They were incoming calls. Did the calls go unanswered? Notice the article says that the phones were dead most of the time. http://m.mtstandard.com/news/local/...5444-bbc0-51e99524386e.html?mobile_touch=true

"On Monday, Howard said he had obtained phone numbers for both Beverly and Gregory and with the help of the phone company determined the phones were dead or turned off most of the time.

However, an incoming call was received on Beverly’s phone on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 11:32 p.m. and Gregory’s phone received calls on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 9:14 p.m. and at 11:39 p.m. With subpoenas, a deeper investigation of phone calls will be made, he said."

Thank you for this - it's very helpful to keep things straight. I suspected at this point the investigation into financial records and communication data would answer a lot of questions (even if LE doesn't reveal what they've found) but this is the latest update I've been able to find, from yesterday:

Nine days after two Deer Lodge people were reported missing, Powell County Sheriff Scott Howard said Monday no information on the case has surfaced.

Thank you to members for this excellent timeline information. I wish it could be linked to the top of the thread...Can a mod do that for us?
I have been traveling and not able to follow as closely as I normally do. Your posts have surely helped me keep up to date.
I also wanted to asked spirit seeker and/or ClaireNC, was a cell phone found on November 2 when police discovered Greg's home had been broken into? I have seen that information floating around and it is quite curious to me. Whose phone was found? Did Greg leave his own cell phone? How strange that the home of a missing person was "robbed"......

A random burglar is not going to break into a home, bag up clothes and towels, leave the tv outside and just take the phone (and possibly weapons).

Very good point. Do we know for sure it was Greg's phone that was missing from the home? My tired mind is refreshing now and I recall the discussion: Why would authorities be checking out Greg's home the day before and not take a cell phone from the residence to check it out?
Are we thinking Greg left voluntarily for some reason?
What would be his motive? Running away with the gold bar money and ....?
I can't wrap my head around this one...

I cannot remember the article I saw it in, but it mentioned that Greg was handicapped .... Although allegedly a modest home, he was evidently quite settled in there. Greg and Beverly were both described as adoring their dogs. Gregs dog has diabetes and needs insulin daily. I too think there is something to the fact that clothing, towels, and cell phone were the items being taken from his home. However, I do not think either left voluntarily for any reason leaving behind their pets. It was described they were left (for days) with no food/water and for a diabetic dog on insulin, being denied its injections lack of food and water could have very well killed it. I just don't see it. The roast being left on also does not fit leaving voluntarily for me.

What if Beverly met with the man for lunch, he picked her up for the lunch date and from there she was abducted when the meeting did not go the way the man expected. He held her as collateral, because Greg had possession of the gold bar. After all was in place they contact Greg telling him he must be at "so and so" location or they would harm his Mom. That would make him drop everything and run. Could they be being held somewhere in lieu of the gold bar. If afraid enough for his Mom's well being, he very well could be the one that went to the house to retrieve things. That however does not explain the phone calls to their cells... This is just so perplexing and I cannot stop praying for these two, they weigh heavy in my thoughts, perhaps because me and my adult son are very close. I just hope somehow they are okay, I really have my doubts, but still hope. IMHO

I don't think any of the MSM articles said one way or the other who's phone it was. Just that a cell phone that was there earlier in the day, was missing when LE went back to investigate the report of a burglary. What struck me as particularly odd about that is that they actually left the phone there. I mean, they're investigating a break in at the home of a man who they also have an ongoing investigation into his mysterious disappearance, and they just leave the cell phone there?

I can't really wrap my head around this one either. The items mentioned (clothing, towels, pillows - it's a little different depending on which article you read) in regards to the break-in make it even more bizarre.

I do think he (Gregory) left willingly but the WHY is what I can't figure out. It's especially frustrating since not a single friend or family member is out there saying anything. Normally we have family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, ex-spouse, kids etc. talking to the media, setting up FB pages, commenting, getting the word out and giving us some insight into the life of the person. Not so in this case. With his mother, yes, to some degree (thanks to the nice lady that set up the FB page) but there's almost nothing about him being said there.

I can't recall where I read it either but I think it mentioned some type of disability from a car accident? I'll try to find that link.

As for Beverly being picked up for lunch, that's odd too considering the sheriff's comments:

However, what did remain at the residence were all of Giannonatti’s vehicles. Howard said that the woman was very particular about driving herself and it would be very uncommon for her to have left her residence in someone else’s vehicle. “How she left there, I have no idea,” said Howard, “she would not get in a vehicle with somebody and go somewhere.”
https://www.facebook.com/BevandGregGianonatti/posts/1057146771011492

I'll guess that she drove herself to the lunch meeting, drove home, and it was sometime after that she went missing. It would sure be helpful if LE would release a composite sketch of the man Beverly was last seen with. Unless of course they've already learned who he is.

Great post, Portabella. I haven't seen anything about Greg being handicapped, but this article states "He was severely injured in an accident several years ago and moved back to Deer Lodge about four years ago." http://mtstandard.com/news/local/fo...cle_6ce64fc5-bcbb-5444-bbc0-51e99524386e.html It would be nice to know the extent of his injuries.

The scenario of somebody holding Mom and Greg going to her rescue is top of my list of what might have happened. I think this is all about the gold bar, which somebody mentioned here is rumored to be worth almost half a million dollars. The part about his house being broken into is what makes me wonder if Greg might somehow be involved, but something went very wrong.

I'm certainly praying for these two. Beverly reminds me of my ex-husband's grandmother who lived in a small town in Montana, which is what drew me into this case.
