The Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating Cameron Collin, a 37-year-old white man, who is 6’5” tall and about 200 lbs. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, cowboy boots and a black, long-sleeve t-shirt with "Affliction" on the front.

Authorities say Cameron was last seen at about 10:45 p.m., on Thursday, October 4 at a residence in the 5100 block of Pryor Road. It is believed that Cameron walked away from the residence and may have attempted to walk to Billings. Cameron is from Canada but does have some familiarity with the area.

Friends and residents in the area have searched the property and surrounding area with no luck. Yellowstone County Sheriff’s deputies, along with search and rescue personnel, have conducted an extensive ground and air search of the area. Cutting Edge K-9 provided search dogs.

Authorities are asking that residents along Pryor Creek and Pryor Creek Road check their property, including Pryor Creek and any buildings for signs of Cameron.

Anyone who may have any information on Cameron’s whereabouts, or may have seen someone matching this description walking on Hwy 87 east, Pryor Road or Blue Creek Road late Thursday night or Friday morning, is asked to contact the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office at 406-256-2929.

Airdrie man disappears during Montana trip for friend’s wedding

ctv-cc.png

Collin attended a bachelor party for one of his friends Thursday and was not heard from in the days that followed. His loved ones held out hope that he would make an appearance at the wedding on Sunday but he never showed.

“I’m overwhelmed,” said Julia Collin, Cam’s sister. “My dad decided to drive down to Montana so I told him to come pick me up.”

"For him to disappear for this many days is definitely out of character."

Cam Collin had been partying with friends on a rural property roughly 25 kilometres southeast of Billing on Thursday.

“I know he was drinking,” said Julia. “They put him on a couch to go to sleep, or sleep if it off a little bit, and the next thing they knew he was gone.”

Considered a social butterfly, Collin’s friend hoped he had simply met someone at the party but there were several details that gave them cause for concern. His jacket and belongings were still at the party and the last phone call he made was to the hotel where he had reserved a room. He had called to ask the hotel to hold his reservation as he’d be late to arrive but he never checked in.

When Collin failed to show up at the wedding on Sunday his friends notified police. “They said that he was the kind of person that would be capabale and might even try to make a cross-country trek so we covered that by helicopter,” explained Sheriff Mike Linder of the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office.

Family joins Montana police in search for missing Airdrie man

The sheriff’s office said search and rescue teams, along with friends and residents in the area, have searched the property and surrounding area without luck. It is asking residents who live along Pryor Creek and Pryor Creek Road to check their property for any signs of Cameron.

“Cameron’s family has come to town hoping to help out,” O’Donnell said. “We’re going to resume a ground search (Thursday), kind of cover some areas that we already covered.”

Collin does have some familiarity with the area where he went missing, according to police.

Collin is about six-foot-five and 200 pounds, with a skinny build, according to police. He has a noticeable gap between his front teeth.

Airdrie man missing in Montana after friend’s wedding
His sister, Julia Collin, told Global News that when the group decided to go to a bar, they left Cameron behind because he was too drunk.

“They weren’t gone very long, they were gone maybe an hour before they all came back. But when they came back, my brother was missing,” she said.

Friends thought he caught his own ride into town, she said.

He never showed up at the wedding last Saturday and this week Julia Collin and her father travelled to Montana in hopes of finding him.

“There was a tip that somebody saw a white male walking along the road that goes into town — the old highway. Wearing dark clothes, my brother was wearing a long-sleeved dark T-shirt and jeans and cowboy boots. He always wears his cowboy boots,” Julia Collin said. “Cameron is dearly loved and dearly missed and I definitely want my big brother to come home.”

This doesn't sound very good to me. There is a lot of park area between his last location and town, and I'm thinking there isn't any sidewalks or streetlights on the roads between either. I hope they find him off on a bender or something. It's probably getting pretty cold overnight now.

Family Searches for Airdrie Man Missing in Montana - DiscoverAirdrie.com

37-Year-Old Cameron Collin was last seen nearly a week ago at a bachelor party 23 kilometres southeast of Billings, Montana.

Montana police believe he may have walked away from the bachelor party at the ranch and attempted to walk to Billings.

According to his sister Julia Collin, her brother was last seen partying at the rural property. Julia says his friends put him on a couch after he'd been drinking in order to sleep it off. The next time they looked for him, Cameron was gone. Police were notified after Collin failed to show up at the wedding on Sunday. They don't believe there is any evidence of foul play.

Collin's father and sister have been leading the search in Montana with many of his friends. The area has also been swept by helicopter and planes. His mother has remained in Airdrie and is working with Telus to try to extend the battery life of Cameron's phone to try to get a location.

Another search is planned for today on the property where Cameron went missing. Plans are to dredge the Winding Pryor Creek on the property and cadaver dogs are being brought in to aid in the search.

Cameron (Cam) Collin is from Airdrie, Alta. He was last seen the evening of Oct. 4 during a bachelor party at a house about 20 minutes’ drive southeast of Billings, in southern Montana. She said the party was held at a house next to the Crow Nation Reservation.

“He was going down (to Billings) for his old college roommate, for her wedding. He knows who she was marrying, and so he was hanging out with the boys for the bachelor party,” Julia said, adding that he wasn’t feeling well that evening.

She said the guys made a last-minute decision to head into town to visit the bars there, winding up at a strip club for about 30 minutes; but they didn’t tell her brother they were leaving, Julia said. After that, they returned to the house; “they say they assumed he had gone to bed or he had taken off on foot to go into town, or he had gotten a taxi into town,” she said.

“No taxis were called to that house at all that evening, so then we started thinking maybe he had started walking into town,” she said.

Julie said no one from the group saw her brother walking, but she said there was a possible reported sighting of him walking into Billings.

Hmm so he was the brides former roommate and friend as opposed to the groom and his groomsmen? That’s interesting that he would come to the bachelor party.

My husband has done that, and vice versa. After a while together, you start to share friends, particularly when they’re friends of the opposite sex. I think it’s very different now than it was even just a generation ago. My mother doesn’t have close male friends, but I have lots that I keep in touch with regularly, and with whom my husband is now close, as well.

His cellphone data revealed it had travelled halfway into Billings. Is his cellphone believed to be with him or was it later found with his belongings on the property, it’s not really clear.

And another thing, Cameron’s cellphone tracking data disputes the 10:30pm timeline when the rest of the group headed to Billings and left him behind.

Family of missing Airdrie man doubles reward in hopes someone will come forward | CBC News

“....The facts the family has are that Cameron Collin's phone activity stopped at 10:22 p.m., shortly before the group said they left for the bar. Google Tracking mapping information showed the phone travelled halfway into town before the tracking ended, possibly because the phone died.

"It's just very odd that it just kind of ended at a certain point and we just haven't had any activity on it since," she said.....

......There has been no activity on his phone or credit cards and his belongings, including his jacket, were left behind at the property.”

This is all just really strange, especially considering that phone activity. Jmo

Here's another article, published yesterday, bbm:

[....]

Collin’s sister, Julia, told MTN News that he was here for the wedding of a former college roommate and had been out at a bachelor party the night he went missing.

Julia Collin said she has heard multiple different stories about that night, but had heard from multiple people that her brother may not have been feeling well, and that could have been the reason he ended up separated from the group.

“Nobody saw him or nobody can remember picking him up or anything,” said Julia Collin. “We want to know what happened at that party, we want to know what happened afterward, and we want to know where he is now.”

I wonder too.

I’d be hopeful LE is subpoenaing cellphone data from others in the group. If that information also supports the halfway mark of their travel to Billings occurring at 10:22pm, there must be more to their story that hasn’t been told. There could be various explanations but if Cameron travelled along with them to Billings and disappeared from there, I can’t think of any good reason for them to make up an entirely different story about leaving him behind.

My thoughts are with Cameron’s family. It must be sheer anguish, knowing something happened but not knowing what.

From what is being reported in these two articles, one “story” I can come up with is those at the party are under the influence of more than alcohol, Cameron OD’s (with some people genuinely believing he just wasn’t “feeling well”; alternatively, he could have fallen ill due to acute alcohol poisoning), whoever that realizes what’s happening freaks out, puts him in a car with help, and then they dump him somewhere between the party house and Billings. At that point, they realize Cameron’s phone is still on, so they turn it off and discard it at the scene.

To make the out-of-the-blue trip in the direction of Billings appear legitimate, the persons involved come up with the story of “(making) a last-minute decision to head into town to visit the bars there, (and) winding up at a strip club for about 30 minutes” (even earlier, I thought it was rather odd that the men would decide to make the 20-minute-each-way trip to Billings to go to a strip club, only to stay there for a half hour). LE should be able to prove or disprove this part of the story fairly easily, IMO.

I also find it somewhat suspicious that Cameron went missing Thursday night but wasn’t reported missing until Sunday. I’m not sure about this particular wedding, but oftentimes there would be other wedding-related activities in the meantime, such as the rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, etc. Where did everyone think Cameron was?

I know LE has maintained they do not suspect foul play, but I believe this is a situation where they in fact do suspect foul play, but don’t want to tip their hand to potential suspect(s), IMO.

I do hope and believe that the location information from Google Maps will help his family locate Cameron.

I confess, I was thinking this exact same thing. It fits perfectly well if indeed the cell phone info is accurate. jmo
