MT MT - Ivy Marie Leinen, 11, Poplar, 14 March 2010

The smallest part and Shallowest part of the river 200 ft across and 10 ft deep after the location where she went in..

Highway Bridge Roosevelt Co. Rd. 480

They could of put a net there...

Also to me this looks like a good place to search Where the bend is hairpin before it.

May I ask.... From Researcher... didn't They lived on the poplar river not the Missouri River...:waitasec:

I have two different locations they say where she went in.....:waitasec:

The official statement sounds like they're describing the main Missouri -- but the Poplar river goes directly into the Missouri, so even if she fell in there, she likely wound up in the main river.

The river is full of islands, sand bars, and big collections of logs that have floated from upstream. She could have washed up on or snagged in any of them. She could have gone 100 yards or 100 miles.

Here is the map of where Ivy's house is and possible islands that her tracks may have been found on.

It is my understanding that the Missouri River flows generally east, per http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061018130816AARqnP6

Hollye, I absolutely love you and your Maps.... They makes everything for me so much easier.

Maybe because I am a huge river kayak person and rafter and have done most of the Major rivers in the world.

This bothers me.

Rivers swell and shrink during different times of the year and some are also controlled by dams and levees, However I must say I am not very familiar with the Missouri River...:waitasec:

Rivers are search-able even if you have to wait for the right time of season.

I can't imagine just not keep searching until they find her....

Thanks CN2S!

I don't understand continuing to search for her either. That makes me so sad for her.

BUMPING for Ivy. Missing 2 years today.

Instead of stopping the search entirely, shouldn't they move into recovery mode? Are they just going to wait for her body to turn up? I don't understand... Ivy still needs to be found.

One January when I was in junior high, a boy from my school fell through the ice while snowmobiling. They called off the search after a few days and waited until his body floated to the surface in the spring. Awful for his family, but there's often just no practical or safe way to search under the ice.

It's been three years since 11-year-old Ivy Marie Leinen went missing, now her mother is urging anyone who finds remains along the Missouri River to turn them in.

On March 14, 2010, police say they believe Leinen slipped through the ice into the Missouri River while walking her dog near Poplar.

Earlier this month Leinen would have turned 14.

Leinen is still considered missing and authorities have just released an aged progression photo.

Praying her family & friends have answers soon.

It bothers me how Ivy's body has not been recovered yet. I read a case about a missing boy in I think Washington state who's case was classified as lost/injured missing for many years until police began to question other theories in his case. This boy was outside during a huge rainstorm, but they now feel as if he had died his body would of been found and now suspect abduction. I really doubt that Ivy was kidnapped and her fall into the river through ice was staged, but it really bugs me her body has not been found. Not to mention that Montana has a very high number of sex offenders for the little population it does have. JMO and :twocents:

Ivy has been missing for 6 years now. After reading her thread, it seems pretty clear that she fell into the Missouri. Why, though, hasn't the river released her after all this time? I suppose it's because the area is too remote and the river isn't traveled often enough to have spotted her. How very sad for her and her family.

There has been an age-progression done that I thought I should share just in case she's out there, somewhere, on dry land..

Sadly, her bones are probably lying on a sandbank in the badlands waiting for a rafter or canoeist to put ashore there. But at least it's a beautiful and peaceful place to rest.

They named an island in the river for her: https://mslservices.mt.gov/Geograph...icNamesAdvisor/geonamesProposal.aspx?ID=42101

The name is intended to honor Ivy Marie Leinen (2000-2010), who lived most of her life on the bank of the river and was fascinated with the island and its inhabitants of deer, muskrat, geese, ducks, and wild turkeys. After wandering toward the island with her family’s four dogs in March 2010, she fell through the ice and is believed to have drowned in the river just north of the island. Her body has never been found.
