I blame the mother. You’ve been cut off completely with connections to your under age son for an extended period. I don't see any reason for a deal, at all. The charges are appropriate to the crimes, and the prosecutor has strong evidence to get convictions of all four. This is Montana, we like to see people do the right thing. IMO

To be clear, we don’t know when she had contact with him. At least I don’t.
Did the abuse occur for two years or did it begin around the time Alex was removed from public school? So many questions.

Per my interpretation of her television interview and her cousins newspaper interview, she had been trying since 2018 to contact him. Grandma wouldn’t allow. I could be wrong but I thought I read that some of those disturbing videos were taken two years ago. A decent parent would be talking to their child weekly. Once cut off by Grandma, take adult steps to gain contact or to gain control of your sons upbringing. We offer adults way too many breaks in their responsibilities toward children they bring into this world. Once again, she did not cause her sons death, but had she not stepped over months of red flags, she could have prevented his murder

But, how glorious could it have been if she had maintained contact with his school, which is her right to do, and every decent parent’s responsibility. In addition, if she had pushed the issue on Grandma not giving her reasonable communication with her son, Alex might be here today living a healthy life and enjoying those barbecues his obituary said he loved.

It was in a news article. Written, evidently, by his mother. How he loved sports, was all boy, loved barbecues and how how he wasn’t perfect, but loved life. Maybe it wasn’t a formal obituary but it was his Mothers words, so it seems.

Agreed. Honestly, the guilt alone would be enough. Her son lived and died in a terrible situation.

This thread is just so heartbreaking. I so wish I could have found James, given him a hug, and a place to live, with 2 Golden Retrievers, 2 cats in the yard...he is in a better place now, at least.

So many of my former students were actually in Special Education due to abuse. Traumatic Brain Injuries, hearing loss. I guess that those kids were the "lucky" ones who survived.

@Dave F. Do you know the particulars of Tommy’s accident? Was he off road, on road, struck by a vehicle?

I am curious, did PB think there was potential for a lawsuit/payout, and decided Alex would be a nice addition to the family? I’m having trouble discerning her desire to “keep” a child she vaguely knew.

The first day of school was 09/28/19, so Alex was pulled out almost immediately, imo.
