Great question. They could have easily dumped him, and said that he ran away.

I wonder if the Grandmother was also abused, and possibly feared that her children would be the next victims. She probably wanted the 300 pound adult male, who seemed to be the primary abuser, gone, and out of the house. Not giving her a pass, but she may have also been a victim here.

IMO, a victim stops being a victim the moment they start abusing.

"Grandma" was heavily involved in the abuse and torture of this boy, per video(s) There is no sympathy for her from me. Now it looks like 4 people have been charged with these crimes! My God, this poor baby!

Investigators: videos show boy being tortured by members of his family before his death

How many times have we seen "home Schooling" involved with abused and dead children? Something needs to change. There should be more oversight and monitoring of children who are homeschooled.

Why did these people take videos of abusing a child? Great evidence. But it is beyond depraved.

I don't think they were bothering to home school him, jmo.

The 300 lb guy was the victim's 14 year old "uncle" who texted his own father ""On Jan. 17, 2020 Sasser III texted Sasser Jr. at 8:07 a.m. “I’m gonna end up killing him today.”" (from above link).

It took me a while to see who is who in this sad tale. The 300lb 6' 14 year old uncle is currently being held in some juvenile detention until it's determined if he will be tried as an adult. Then I posted the article above where they made another arrest, but this time thank goodness the new person is 18, another huge friend of the uncle who also was seen in the videos torturing the 12 year old. Allegedly.

That is the saddest obituary I have ever read. This kid's life tells a story. His Mother is remarried, with another child. She sent her older son to live in Montana. Pretty much a "throw away kid". Sad.

In the obituary of James - it said his father's name was Tommy Tate - so not sure where the name Hurley comes from....

Apparently she sent him to, or he went to live with, his then-living father. Not sure if the father was living with the boy's grandparents, not clear in the articles. Or if James ended up in that nurturing household after the father died.

I don't really follow this forum anymore because I find it too painful, but like a dummy I kind of peeked at this. I couldn't finish one msm article when I saw the warning of the content that would follow. I headed the warning because what I had already read was horrific. It bothered me until I finally fell asleep. This poor kid, can't even imagine his life with this disgusting family. And I seriously wonder wth is wrong our society. I hope they all get the max but reading through the trial info that Niner posts each week, I've somewhat lost faith in our justice system when comes to children. This has got to change.

When abuse occurs in a home, against one child, the other kids who are not the "targeted" one, are probably suffering as well.

And, it is textbook environment on how to raise a psychopath.

I wonder if he was getting some sort of stipend (maybe SS survivor benefits?) and they were enjoying that income as caretakers. And that could be why they didn't get him psychiatric help (wounds etc would be red flag), or notify the mother that (they claim) he was seriously troubled. Just a thought, not mentioned in the articles.

Who was his legal guardian?
