MT - John Lieba for kidnapping, rape of 4yo girl, Wolf Point, 2016

  • #201
why would the judge be concerned that the murderer/child rapist get a 'window of hope at the end of his life'? I haven't followed this case and am only reading about it now but that sentencing comment jumped out at me and seems outrageously insensitive to the victim's family

From the article:

Authorities discovered the girl was alive in a pickup truck outside of town, but also found she had suffered traumatic sexual and physical abuse. Medical professionals testified at trial that she had contracted herpes, will not be able to have children, and that she had severe signs of strangulation.

Given the above, I have no idea why the judge would be concerned if Lieba had a "window of hope".
