The lawyer for a woman accused of beating to death a baby under her care on a Montana American Indian reservation says it's unclear if her client intentionally killed the 13-month-old girl.

Zemyan says Red Dog admitted to law enforcement that she struck Kenzley, but only an autopsy would determine if that's what caused her death.
...
Zemyan says Red Dog had been caring for Kenzley for two weeks at the request of the girl's mother.

It's unclear if Red Dog intentionally killed Kenzley? Argh! Yes, I understand the legal difference here but really, when an adult strikes a child why isn't there a reasonable expectation that the child could be seriously harmed or even killed? I doubt I'll ever understand the thinking. Yeah, I meant to take my anger out by pummeling a child who weighs a fifth of what I do but hey, I never meant to kill her... oops! My bad.
Plus, I've been thinking... the story of Red Dog striking Kenzley "three times" seems a little off. According to msm Kenzley died immediately and Red Dog got scared and hid her body. Exactly how hard would someone have to punch a child for her to die right then and there? Most of the blunt force trauma cases we see here are the result of the child being beaten and the adult dealying calling for help or failing to altogether. IOW, there's a time lapse between the assault and death. IMO if Kenzley died immediately I'd say the punches were awfully hard.
JMO but if Red Dog had been watching Kenzley for two weeks I think there's more to this story. I'm suspicious that she hurt Kenzley earlier and let her suffer until she died. But I hope I'm wrong.
