Is there anyone left still believing the carjacker story?

  • #306
Just a hunch, but I would think a criminal would want to keep the gun.

Yep, would want to keep a gun. Would want to keep the car. Doesn't need a hostage. Does not need to add murder to any charges....Something smells.

ETA: if my instinct is wrong on this I might have to retire from websleuths and keep away from rest stops... :(

"Dutton said there is a person of interest in the case and that authorities are looking at a surveillance video from a convenience store.....

FBI media spokesperson Sandra Barker said the federal law enforcement agency was working in conjunction with the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office but would not confirm FBI agents were investigating a specific person of interest connected to the murder."

Also in the article is info from co-workers and family about Rita. She sounds like a very nice person with a loving family and community. She does not seem to be someone who would be targeted, so I'm thinking random violence or suicide. Either way, tragic and sad.

Why do we think it might be suicide? Wasn't she in the trunk? I feel like I missed something today. Tia!

Review the thread. We've been on a journey today with this case. Still not entirely clear what happened.

That's what I think too and they would know if it was hers almost immediately. So why not tell us?

Have you never seen the Godfather? "Leave the gun, take the cannoli"

**Although since they found shell casings it means they didn't even bother to take the cannoli :(

Report says woman found in trunk was shot; person of interest ruled out
Though officials were pursuing a person of interest who was seen on surveillance footage, Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton said the individual has been ruled out.

"They had a still shot from a convenience store that they worked to find the person of interest. It was not somebody that was involved in this case," he said Thursday afternoon.

I do wonder if she staged this for insurance purposes. I feel horrible typing it but it is crossing my mind. Jmo.

In that carjacking from 2015 the suspect eventually let the couple out and then abandoned the first car after it was damaged, then he abandoned the second one he'd carjacked and fled on foot. The first couple were only kidnapping victims temporarily and the second family he forced out of the car before taking it.

So he left the car, I don't know if kept his gun but he didn't shoot any of the carjacking victims.

I also don't know if he took the cannoli.
