So they located her vehicle at 12:36, but didn't open the trunk and locate Rita until 1:19? Why did they wait so long? If someone is being held captive in the trunk of a car, and gunshots were heard, wouldn't you look there first?

Wow, I'm shocked that they didn't put their first priority to finding her (they said they wanted to use a tracker dog first so as to not contaminate the scene). For all they knew she could have been alive at the time where this could have turned into a failed homicide/suicide.

The only thing I can come up with is that Spokane LE only vaguely knew what this was about compared to Helena LE where they were maybe just told to look for a car and didn't know anything about an alleged kidnapping in the trunk.

or...the report could be wrong. It's possible.

I recall reading some timeline somewhere that also gave the time when she was declared dead at the scene. Anyone have that one handy?

I wonder what her true purpose was in going to Helena. Differing accounts. One sounds like "visiting relatives" another is visiting mom as an afterthought........and another is specifically to see AILING mom..... Were those relatives at the vigil? Were reporters there? UGH Such conflicting reporting. JMO

My hunch (only a hunch) is that she did indeed visit relatives and then called her husband about visiting her mom as a way to gain more time away from home. I'm guessing that when Rita didn't turn up at home when expected and her husband couldn't reach her, he called her mom and her mom said Rita wasn't there...and then her husband called police.

TOTAL speculation. We haven't heard any confirmation from family one way or the other.

deleting post as I'm not making sense....

I suppose the ME and crime scene investigators will eventually be able to add all kinds of details to support or negate an abductor theory like for eg stomach contents, presence of urine in trunk, blood splatter patterns in an open vs closed trunk as well the already anticipated presence/absence of DNA/fingerprints of unknown source? gunpowder residue? etc
But I kind of just wish there could be a definitive or persuasive fact that LE can reveal soon... Sorry if this seems like impatience, but I do feel this must be much more agonizing for the family and friends of Rita...

Weapon and up to 21 rounds of ammo to visit relatives and/or ailing mom. Ok. I don't own a weapon, but I don't think I need to arm myself to the hilt to visit "loved ones". Just my opinion. There may have been additional business to attend to.......,and not necessarily a suicide plan. JMO

FYI, from Wikipedia
:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-automatic_firearm

>>>snip

A semi-automatic, or self-loading, firearm is one that performs all steps necessary to prepare it to discharge again after firing—assuming cartridges remain in the firearm's feed device. Typically, this includes extracting and ejecting the spent cartridge case from the firing chamber, re-cocking the firing mechanism, and loading a new cartridge into the firing chamber. Although machine guns and selective-fire firearms do the same tasks, semi-automatic firearms do not automatically fire an additional round until the trigger is released and re-pressed by the person discharging it. That is, a semi-automatic firearm fires only one round (bullet) each time the trigger is pulled, and these firearms incorporate a "disconnector" to ensure that only one round is discharged for each pull of the trigger (releasing the trigger allows the sear to be reset, thereby preparing the firearm for the next shot; should the trigger not be released, the sear will not be reset; the "disconnector" ensures this behavior).

Checkout trigger's rewind in the basement thread: http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...KING-NEWS!!!-Current-Scanner-Alerts-7/page868

***Remember we are not allowed to directly discuss what is reported in the basement up here***

That coincides with these two reports:
Deputies with the Spokane Sheriff’s Office located Maze’s vehicle at 12:36 a.m. Pacific Standard Time Wednesday.

“The vehicle appeared to be unoccupied with the keys in the ignition and a female purse in the front seat,” the search warrant says.

At 1:19 a.m., deputies located blood on the ground near the vehicle, then located Maze’s body in the trunk and called for medics.

Maze was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:37 a.m.

http://www.greatfallstribune.com/st...s-question-womans-kidnapping-report/90117736/
The supervisor didn't want to contaminate their crime scene with a lot of people until a patrol dog had a chance to track the suspect, last detected heading north on foot. Deputies then opened the trunk and found Maze's body inside.

Which it sounds surprising that they were more concerned about contaminating a crime scene than potentially saving someone's life. I know it's been reported on here that the ME said she was shot through the heart, but I haven't actually seen the ME's report or it stated in the media that she was shot in the heart rather than the more vague description of 'chest' and even then, you wouldn't know that until you open up the trunk.

BBM. This makes is sound like a suspect was known to be on foot and traveling north BEFORE they released the dogs. ???

Beneath a story about Rita Maze's memmorial on KRTV's facebook page her daughter is responding to someone's questions about a tabloid showing a picture of a POI using a credit card...she seems to dismiss it as not factual...

Sending prayers of love and comfort to Rita's family and friends. Sometimes the only answer we need is that the person loved us. Sometimes this is the
only answer.

I hope and pray that the media leaves them alone. Rest in Peace dear Rita.

I can't make out who she is responding to or what exactly she is saying with that post. Regardless, it's rumor so we shouldn't be discussing it.

It's not so much a rumor, just it's something that takes administrator approval to discuss social media of family:
http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?291123-Social-Media-Facebook-Twitter-etc
There's been any number of cases on here where social media comments were allowed and sometimes quite frequently discussed.

I thought that links to bona fide media pages on social media were acceptable and the TOS allows attention to be drawn to comment section?

:( I am sorry if I broke the rules, violated privacy or offended anyone. I was really just trying to get to the bottom of what seems to be sloppy reporting from the Daily Mail...

ETA: I have just re-read the rules and now I suppose I am just a bit confused as I've followed quite a few cases here and the comments section on MSM pages seems to be mentioned all the time...
