Waters and Spell have been approved for court appointed attorneys for their hearings this afternoon. On the applications, both men say they are unemployed. Waters wrote that he works in construction when employed, and the only asset he listed was a 1992 Ford Explorer. Spell wrote that he performs "labor" when employed, and the only asset he listed was $11 in cash.
Court documents indicate Waters and Spell are scheduled to appear in court in Sidney on the aggravated kidnapping charges on Jan. 24 before Judge Greg Mohr.

So that says to me that they had no money for gas, motels, eating, etc. The trip from Parachute to Sidney would likely cost them $130 or so in gas alone. If no robberies have been reported along their route, they were probably stealing and selling at pawn shops. They don't sound like candidates for credit cards unless stolen.

What day did they leave Parachute heading for Sidney?

Just looking at map and how far the shoe was found from where she was seen passing(or near) the post office and I see now there are actually 2 Holly/9th St intersections and coincidentally each are .5 a mile from the post office in either direction(west vs east).. So regardless of which direction she was headed on her route it would've been very shortly thereafter her seen passing(or near) the area of the post office.. Within minutes:(.. I do now wonder if the vehicle is the ford explorer mentioned in Waters court papers?? Anyone know a color??

And if anyone knows for certain her direction of jogging on Holly (west or east) would love to have it clarified..

Tia:)

In thinking about these men's listed possessions.. Not that I believe they were by any means wealthy.. However I certainly don't take their word at face value.. Meaning just cause they may say they have no car, money, property, possessions(minus the 11 bucks and Explorer).. That certainly doesn't make it necessarily true IMO.. Wouldn't they lie if it suited their purpose? .. For any number of reasons from lying to hide a possession(possibly vehicle) or lying about money for free ride of a defense.. As just a couple examples..

I just don't take them at their word while I do find it possible that they don't have a pot to pee in.. I certainly can't take it as fact..KWIM?

Does this description help?

Her normal running route includes Holly Street, near the Sidney Country Club, the walking path, the truck route and cemetery road.

I agree. I think he made up the whole story after he got caught. I'm not buying the "I was threatened by the scary man" story. Spell is no Boy Scout himself.

Agree! I was just going to post this very thought...He was threatened..Yeah, right.

Is very common to have an oil job based in Williston and go "out on jobs" to Fairview, MT, Sidney, MT which is just 40 minutes away or in other directions to small towns as well.

Thanks and welcome to WS!

It looks as if these 2 characters are unemployed so they're not oil workers, but we still don't know why they were in the Sidney/Williston area.

Just noodling around here--all this is purely speculation based on what we think we know so far:

Both are unemployed in Parachute, CO. Maybe they meet at the Grand View Pub, which seems to be the most active watering hole in that town of about 1000? (Basing this speculation on info in reports at police blotter on official Parachute website.)

Spell is apparently without a vehicle, but with a baby and (wife? baby mama?) to provide for... Waters has a vehicle, says "Let's drive up to Williston, I hear there's work up there."

Again, nothing factual here. Just talking out ideas about how they ended up in that region to begin with. :dunno:

I think they should find the route that they took and maybe since they left several weeks ago they will find other crimes that the duo did along the way.

Clint Van Zandt talks about Sherry Arnold’s disappearance

In this particular case, maybe one of the two, if they are responsible is more responsible for what happened to Sherry Arnold. that's the time that a good police investigator, FBI agent, is going to sit down and make some type of offer, some type of deal for the lesser involved person to come forward and tell us what we know," says Clint Van Zandt.
We'll hear more from Van Zandt tonight on Beartooth news at 10.

I think this is very likely the way it happened. Last night I kept trying to think of ways a man in his early 20s and a man in his mid/late 40s would pair up and I kept coming back to meeting in a bar.

I wish we knew how long they had been away from CO.

I saw that and have never for gotten Yogi. If I recall correctly, he was just a very short distance from the little girl's body when they had to stop him for the day. The narrator (it may have been on Unsolved Mysteries) explained that once a good tracking dog is on the scent he/she will *literally* work the scent until they drop. Again, it's been a while ago, but I think Yogi had also tracked the scent to a neighbor's apartment. Thanks for remembering him. These precious animals are nothing short of Angels on this earth and dhelp mankind.eserve our gratitude and respect for the ways they

Animals are angels on earth. Not only do they make such dedicated trackers and service dogs, but they help calm our soul when we are with them.

"A few weeks" would put them leaving Parachute just before Christmas/the holidays (Jan. 7 minus 14 days is Dec. 23; Jan. 7 minus 21 days is Dec. 16).

Maybe this meant nothing to Waters, but Spell apparently has a young child. Tough decision--to be home for the holidays, or to head north for possible employment?

About her route ...

Sidney police report Arnold went on a run at 6:30 a.m. Saturday and wasn’t seen since. Her normal running route includes Holly Street, near the Sidney Country Club, the walking path, the truck route and cemetery road.

Also saw bail set at $2.5 million, and they are fighting extraditon.

In Montana, aggravated kidnapping can carry the death penalty, and in light of this, Williams County State's Attorney Marlyce Wilder recommended bail to be set at $2.5 million for Lester Vann Waters Jr. and Michael Spell. Judge Joshua Rustad agreed.
