Given Waters's three previous convictions for hit and run involving personal injury, his many DUIs and that it was his vehicle that was involved, I think there's a pretty good chance he was the driver. And I still think there's a pretty good chance that this was yet another catastrophic example of his horrible driving skills.

As many have commented, for some people, 6:30 am Saturday morning is just the tail end of Friday night.

I can think of several cases where the perpetrator was highly motivated to help LE find the victims but they were unable to remember the exact locations. Even getting them out and driving them around wasn't successful.

If these two were unfamiliar with the area, if they panicked, if they were driving around sticking to gravel roads and two lanes, if they were under the influence or if many other factors, they may not be able to describe where they left her accurately.

And if they didn't have cell phones or were out of cell coverage for significant periods of time, then cell phone pings are not going to be particularly helpful either.

I really think this is VERY likely.

I wonder if they can peg these guys to some bar Friday night? Maybe Billings?

How do they know she is dead and that these men are responsible. I have not seen this in the news. I appreciate anyone that can tell me. tia

Unfortunately, we don't know how LE connected Waters and Spell to this crime. The only information that has been released to the public is that LE received an anonymous tip last Friday morning that led them to arrest Waters and Spell for the aggravated kidnapping of Sherry.

We have no idea what evidence the FBI has other than one of Sherry's shoes.

The FBI has stated that they believe Sherry is dead because she has been missing since January 7th with no contact and because it has been extremely cold in that region.

Since the FBI has also asked for landowners to search their "shelter belts" for disturbed ground, specifically near rotting or dead trees, we are speculating they have obtained some information from the two suspects regarding Sherry's location.

One thing I see in that story about Yogi is that it rained in the time between when Alie disappeared and when they started Yogi on the track. Rain in a dry climate helps stick the scent particles to the ground, rather than letting them be blown away.

Whether a dog can follow someone who is travelling in a vehicle depends on many factors, including the weather and the nature of the dog's training. When it happens, it is a wonderful tool for SAR and HRD but it doesn't always happen.

It is interesting how scent particles stick to the ground in rain.
I have been noticing on walks my pup sniffs more intensely right after it rains, and I was wondering if the rain brings the scents out more...but you answered my question!

There's several different ways to have an ex cousin-in-law but the most direct would be to marry, then divorce a woman whose cousin was C McC.

I changed the name to initials since this person really isn't directly involved in the crime.

This is just speculation but it sounds to me like Spell married and is already divorced.

Thank you for finding this. I remember reading it previously and thinking that spells must be divorced due to the "ex" cousin-in-law. But I didn't know where to look for it to bring it to the thread.

If he's divorced from his child's mother, that could also be an impetus to leave town before the holidays. Knowing he wasn't going to be seeing his child for the holidays may have made getting out of town for a change of scenery may have been more attractive for Spell.

I wonder how much contact he has/is allowed with his child?

Or the cousin-in-law could have been married to his sibling. I don't know about other places but we don't claim in-laws past the immediate family. My cousins are MY cousins, not my husband's, and vice versa. I don't call his cousins my cousins-in-law. Never met most of them, and I've got a few he wouldn't claim even if they were his, KWIM? :floorlaugh:

Keep in mind that the assets statements people fill out in order to qualify for a public defender only include whatever that person has at that moment in time.

They could have started the week with $5000 in their pockets and if they spent it all, it no longer counts towards assets.

Minus 20 degrees here right now, and not supposed to warm up much until Saturday, and then fairly nice. So far no new snow and not any forecasted in the near future. Many people still searching, but a lot of country to search.

It can't actually get too cold to snow, but it can get too dry. Very cold air, like you're experiencing up there now, holds less water vapor than warmer air, so it's much less likely to snow.
