Found Deceased MT - Sherry Lankford, 42, Great Falls, 13 March 2011

Family members of Sherry Lankford, who was reported missing in Great Falls several weeks ago, believe that the body that was pulled from the river near West Bank Park on Wednesday afternoon is Sherry.

Stacy Snider, a cousin of Sherry's, said that she was able to identify several personal items at the scene that belonged to Sherry.

She was found at West Bank Park which is 1.5 miles from her home, 3 min by car. Looks like whoever did this wanted her disposed of, immediately. IMO

I wonder if she was still wearing her coat.

Body found in river confirmed as missing woman Lankford

The woman’s body that was pulled from the Missouri River in Great Falls Wednesday has been positively identified as Sherry Lankford, a Great Falls woman missing since mid-March.

The body that was discovered in the Missouri River near West Bank Park in Great Falls on Wednesday has been positively identified as Sherry Lynn Lankford.

There is going to be a mass for Sherry at St. Josephs in Great Falls on Saturday at 5:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Sherry's services are Tuesday at Croxfords at 10:30 am.

Sherry was born Sept. 30, 1968, at Fort Belknap Agency, to Clyde and Patricia Lankford. She attended schools in Great Falls and graduated in 1986 from C.M. Russell High School.

She started her medical career at the Columbus Hospital in Great Falls as a surgical technician. Wanting to further her education, Sherry enrolled in correspondence classes to obtain her nursing degree. She worked as a surgical nurse and later surgical coordinator with Benefis Health System. She also worked for the Great Falls Clinic at its surgery center. She enjoyed her work as a nurse and devoted a lot of time to her profession.

Sherry enjoyed hunting with her family as well as camping, hiking and being in the outdoors. Growing up with four older brothers who hunted, she made sure she kept up with them, trying her hardest not to let them out-hunt her. She also loved working on several different houses she owned over the years, doing her own plumbing, wiring and general maintenance.

Says the toxicology report is back, but the article is dated June 3 and it's been 2+ weeks and there was nothing reported that I could fine.

Detectives are currently communicating with the State Crime Lab and finishing up reports, and will be releasing an official statement early next week on where the case stands.

Cause of death drowning but suspicious


The Great Falls Police Department has issued a press release about the investigation into the death of Sherry Lankford.


The release from the GFDP states:
The Great Falls Police Department recently received the results from the toxicology tests and autopsy from the Montana Crime Lab in regards to the death investigation of Sherry Lankford.
As a matter of information only, the report lists Sherry Lankford cause as (sic) death as "drowning." The report states that the forensic evidence gathered from the toxicology report and autopsy was "inconclusive."

Great Falls police tell us that David Wayne Lawrence has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of Sherry Lankford.

Lawrence was arrested on Friday, May 11, 2012, and is facing a felony charge of tampering with evidence.

Authorities tell us that they are looking for another suspect in the case, but have not yet provided us with any details.

There has been nothing in the news about what happened to David Wayne Lawrence, or if there was ever another arrest, etc.

I wonder what happened to the case, dropped off the news for sure.

Well, I found out he is incarcerated, but I would have liked to know the in-between.
He has an extensive criminal record. If he rolled on the other guy who threw Sherry into the river, that would be good to know.
