Phone-hacking scandal: NoW exec Stuart Kuttner bailed after arrest
Stuart Kuttner, the public face of the News of the World and its most vocal public defender for 22 years, has been arrested by police investigating allegations of phone hacking and of bribing police officers to leak sensitive information.

As managing editor until his resignation in July 2009, Kuttner was in charge of finances at the now-defunct tabloid.

Kuttner, 71, was described at the time of his resignation by the last editor of the newspaper, Colin Myler, as a man whose "DNA is absolutely integrated into the newspaper which he has represented across the media with vigour".

Kuttner reportedly did not know he was going to be taken into custody when he arrived by appointment at a police station in London on Tuesday at 11am for questioning. Police were later seen searching his home in Woodford, Essex.

Comedian who threw a foam pie at Rupert Murdoch jailed for six weeks
---
Tim Greaves, defending, said May-Bowles would appeal against the 'excessive' sentence saying the comedian had been protesting against the Murdoch-owned News International organisation.

He added: 'He sought to make a statement by his actions that day and he certainly didn't seek to cause any harassment, alarm or distress to those people in that room.

'It is also important to identify that Mr Murdoch has not supported these prosecutions.

'The act itself was combined with what was meant as a cheeky comment by Mr May-Bowles, when he said "naughty billionaire".

Okay, riots over for now, time to get back to taking down repulsive people instead of looting sporting goods:

Murdoch reporter's devastating letter blows whistle on News International
phone cover-up. Hacking 'widely discussed at News of the World'
(Daily Mail)

Top executives from Rupert Murdoch down today faced devastating allegations of a phone hacking cover-up at News International, after former Royal Correspondent Clive Goodman sensationally claimed that the matter was 'widely discussed' at the News of the World.

MPs said they were 'likely' to recall James Murdoch to give further evidence to the committee examining the hacking scandal, as fresh information emerged which appeared to implicate a raft of top executives and undermine their evidence to Parliament.

In a letter penned by Mr Goodman in 2007 and only made public today, he claimed that hacking was 'widely discussed' in the newsroom until editor at the time Andy Coulson banned all reference to the subject.

The allegations could prove to be very damaging to Mr Coulson and News International chief James Murdoch, who both claimed they believed the hacking was the sole domain of 'rogue reporter' Mr Goodman

James Murdoch Steps Down From British Broadcaster
By JOHN F. BURNS
Published: April 3, 2012

LONDON — BSkyB, the British satellite broadcaster partly owned by the News Corporation, said on Tuesday that James Murdoch had resigned as chairman to shield the company from the phone hacking scandal engulfing his family’s British newspaper group.

BSkyB said Nicholas Ferguson, the deputy chairman, had been named to succeed him.

Mr. Murdoch will continue to hold a seat on the board. But by relinquishing his position as the head of BSkyB, one of the fastest-growing and most lucrative television properties in the Murdoch stable, Mr. Murdoch, 39, appeared to be shedding one of the most important portfolios in the newly focused role assigned to him only weeks ago....

'Coulson stood emotionless as he absorbed the news. Looking faint and close to tears, Brooks walked with the support of the court's matron and her solicitor Angus McBride. Charlie, also close to tears, followed, as did her secretary, Cheryl Carter, who was also cleared.

Brooks smiled as the jury forewoman called out the first of the verdicts on the four charges she faced. She smiled weakly as the first verdict of not guilty was called out, knowing she had three more to come.

The jury have not reached unanimous verdicts on two further charges faced by Andy Coulson and one charge faced by the News of the World's former royal editor.'

There are suggestions the UK's Prime Minister will now have to make a profound apology for employing Coulson as his director of communications.

Billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch is likely to be interviewed under caution by police investigating phone hacking scandal, the Mail reports.

'Under criminal law in England and Wales, prosecutors who want to bring charges against a company must establish that a senior individual in the organisation, known as a ‘controlling mind’, is culpable of the offence.
If the company was convicted then its bosses, including Rupert and James Murdoch could also be prosecuted....'
