Music has come up in several threads (usually my fault and I appologize).

SO I have created this thread to talk about music.

I am a 90s child so I grew upwith the likes of red Hot Chili Peppers, pearl jam, alice in chains, etc. I feel privalged to have grown up in an era where the music was good. I was into Rap as well. Wu Tang, BIG, Jay Z etc. This was when rap was good tho.

I feel bad for the kids that grow up with ****** music.

What say YOU!?

There is less good mainstream music today but if you search for it there is still some good stuff. 90s were good but there was some amazing out there stuff in the 80's, too.

70's not so much until the very end of the decade then everything exploded with some brand new sounds. Well, I forgot, Aerosmith and who could forget Springsteen (Rosalita 1973) Roxy Music, Lynyrd Skynyrd (my secret redneck pleasure) and the 60's had the Stones, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Led Zepplin, Neil Young & Pink Floyd and they all kept it going well into the 80's. But the 80's brought everything: Tom Petty, XTC, The Police, the Cure, New Order, Joy Division, the Smiths, Aerosmith doing Rap with Run DMC, U2, the Talking Heads, the B52's, Iggy Pop doing Candy Girl, Patty Smith, REM, Prince, the English Beat, General public (SKA!!!) and the Pretenders. Many of those bands kept it going through the 90s. I could go on & on. And then came grunge and finally some good metal...Nirvana, Guns & Roses, Pearl Jam and one of my all time favorites, but neither grunge nor metal, the Counting Crows. Ah, and I can't leave Tracy Chapman off that list. I know I am leaving off a truckload but this is a start.

Those are a few of my favorite bands.

Albums like Nevermind, Dirt, Ten can all go head up with ANYTHING form te 60s.
IMHO the grunge era died a few years after Kurt did. By 1996 I think the grunge era was done. Layne Staleys death was the final nail in the coffin so to speak.

But on a side note...the band "Madseason" is releasing their first album "Above" along with a new album and a video with Layne singing (all digitally remastered) 4/2/2013.

One of my favorite albums. I can still listen to it and enjoy it. You know how Bradley Knowell wrote that album? H was getting really popular. All of the big successful guys were doing it. So Knowll said "I am going to do this stuff and write an album and then I will quit" Well he wrote 40oz turned out to be a great album but couldnt get the monkey off his back. And you know the rest.

For me it was many of the same bands LINative13 mentioned. Nevermind was like a comet that comes around once every hundred years. Rarely a week goes by, to this day, where I don't listen to that album. STP's first three albums were fantastic (Tiny Music... being my favorite). Soundgarden is still my favorite band, though I'm not crazy about their new album, King Animal. Smashing Pumpkins deserve to be mentioned in that same breath as well. Had it not been for Nevermind, Siamese Dream could very well be the best Alt-Rock album of the 90's. There are absolutely no skips on that record. Sublime, as previously mentioned, had that one great self-titled record, then Bradley OD'd on heroin. Who knows what would have come of them. There was also the great battle in the UK between Oasis and Blur. The Battle of Brit-Pop I think they called it. For awhile in 1995 Oasis was the biggest band in the world, hands down. But Damon Albarn somehow managed to TKO Noel Gallagher in the later rounds by doing what Noel couldn't, stick around and stay relevant. Songs like "Beetlebum, "Country House" and "Coffee & TV" are essential material. The last great "Grunge" album from the 90's? Sixteen Stone by Bush.

Oasis died because they came out with one good album and then claimed they were bigger than the beatles and the entire world lost respect for them.
