The bipolar defense may actually work against her in the long run. I just can't see a jury being sympathetic toward her given her actions (partying, stealing, lying etc.) bipolar or not.

What I found interesting on NG tonight was the clip of CA asking KC if she was speaking to a psychologist. KC says, yes, everday, that is who she was just speaking with. CA asks if she has opened up to the psychologist. KC replies no. CA responds "understood." KC clearly needs help with her pathological lying and CA knows it. It appears to me that CA was relieved that KC is not "opening up" to the psychologist. What is that all about?

Better yet, why would she open up to a person she doesn't know? I couldn't believe it when I heard that...but yet I could. A sociopath might say just that.

I am not sure about the bipolar disorder thing. Is there anyone here with experience? Did her reaction after Caylee went missing seem to be bipolar? What about her actions before Caylee disappeared? Was she bipolar then too?

It'll never fly. Never! I'll eat my arm if Casey having Bipolar is a successful defense or if it even makes it into court as a viable defense.

Psychologist saying that when casey said "Keep the focus on Caylee" she was really saying that she wanted the focus taken off herself. I couldn't disagree more. But I do agree with what she says about her demeanor being that of a defiant teen.

I didn't watch but I'm guessing the Psych on NG didn't see Bipolar as a possible for Casey, did she/he?

Once again, odd, odd, odd. One would think a Mother CA would want her child, albeit in jail to receive the help she (KC) so obviously needs, but CA seems relieved that KC is not "opening up" to the psychologist? What are they trying to hide? Besides Caylee?

I think the whole bipolar thing is reaching, and so what if she is bipolar....that is no defense for murder.

Oh Manatee, I saw those pix of KC partying away at Fusion. She was anything but depressed, lol!

oh I agree with you! but play devil's advocate with me for a minute...depressed individuals do use drugs and alcohol to deal with pain...they help you cope for a while, until the morning after were the lows are even lower...then you drink and take drugs again. I'm sure she killed her Caylee, but this is not a bad approach to trying to come up with a defense. IMO

Yes, KC did say that. I am thinking perhaps KC reassuring CA that she would not reveal any family secrets (whatever they may be.)

Hee hee. I have a friend who's going through the same thing right now. Her ex deliberately chose a custody evaluator he thought was lenient and then at the last minute realized he'd made a mistake. Too late! Out of the six on the list (3 her choice and 3 his) the Judge chose the one he tried to remove. And he's in big trouble. So yeah, you never know.

I have a feeling if JB requested Strickland's removal he's gonna be sorry. No judge in his/her right mind will look upon this case in a sympathetic way. At least Strickland was a gentleman and tried to help JB along. Next one might not be so kind. Fingers crossed... fingers crossed...

She could get someone like Jackie Glass! I wouldn't want her as my judge. Just ask OJ! LOL

I would like to believe most of the general public are fed up with excusing away one's bad behavior. This could have the opposite effect of their intention, which is to garner jury sympathy. I agree with what some others have said, great, go for it!

I don't think bi-polar will play into the defense at all. I think they will challenge the forensics and try to create reasonable doubt that Caylee is even deceased. I think its a dumb idea, but that's what I think JB is going to try for.

I know I am coming in late to the conversation but my brother was manic depressive. He was diagnosed about 18 years ago and he never ever acted like how acted..ever. It also pizzes me off to no end when people use that as a defense for whatever heinous crime they committed. KC is not bipolar and never was in my opinion.

You know Indi - there says a lot about hitting rock bottom - some of us pull ourselves out and it may take awhile to figure it out yet we do and we never give in - unfortunately some don't see anything good and continue to fall

Trac..I LOVE your quote regarding survivors. I am a daily survivor because I have to live every day with the stigma of being bipolar. Strangers can be more understanding than family. If my brother calls me crazy one more time, I think I'll explode! I deal with my bipolar well medicated and in silence. No stripper poles, no drugs, stealing, etc. and I would never throw away a beautiful little girl named Caylee.

PS. I do tend to get alot of posts deleted due to my big mouth though....LOL

I've been waiting for you to show up tonight and weigh in here. From what I gather so far, best explainations I've read are that defense might have presented it as a mitigating factor in regards to the DP, or that they might bring up BP as a reason for her odd behavior. Concensus seems to be that it can't be used as a defense, per se.

LOL I didn't see a cent until about a month ago - he is over $107,000 in arears and my youngest will be 18 next year - we've been in the system since 1991 and saw bits of money through the years - I guess he figures now he might as well pay he'll never get out from under the 107k

Mine filed banktrupcy..Good thing it's harder to file now than before. If he does try to get out of paying by filing..MAKE sure you go to the banktrupcy meeting and put in a claim. Chances are they won't let him get out of paying the back-pay if you show up! Congrats and Good Luck!

Not a defense for killing your daughter. but it can help to explain her crazy behavior...before and after. Manic episodes followed by depression...lying, partying...all goes with it.

Why is it being assumed that her child being kidnapped or murdering her child would trigger a mania? In my experience when you make huge mistakes and screw up majorly, it triggers a depression.

We are messed up, make some poor choices while manic, we can be pretty impulsive and confusing. We have lots of issues. But we do love people.. we have a conscience, we feel guilt, shame and sadness... We have souls! Once our mania's pass we are our true selves again and often many of us cannot stand to even look at ourselves because of what we have done while manic. For MANY people suffering with Bipolar disorder, something this horrible could get to the extent that the person could very likely become suicidal.
