AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

Well, I'd be a bit nervous choosing the questions to ask an 84 yr old, for proof of life.

Believe me, even if she is still 'sharp as a tack', her memory aint what it used to be.

So remembering what her doggie from 75 years ago was named, might backfire if she can't remember anymore. Or even what she ate at her daughter's last week. It's been a very stressful week.

I'd go with things that she'd have a better chance of remembering---"when was Daddy's birthday? When is your anniversary, etc? I think she could have a greater chance of remembering something significant like that. And I doubt her kidnappers would know those dates.
Older people with mild or moderate dementia often have long term memory fairly intact. So they can remember their childhood dog's name better than what they ate for breakfast that morning.

What a strange case. I haven't followed from the beginning so not sure if the sister/son-in-law have been fully investigated yet, but I'd assume so since the son-in-law was supposedly the last person to see her the night before the disappearance.

My own thoughts are that it's more likely that somebody known to Nancy is involved... or somebody who potentially disagrees with her politically? Not sure who would want to abduct an 84 year old woman otherwise. Hopefully she's found safe but it's not looking likely sadly :(

Give a take, it is a big crime. If (when, I hope) the kidnapper is caught, it be taken very seriously. From what I understand, her daughter is a celebrity working for a “light” TV program. (Nothing light about Savannah, she is smart and ambitious, but the show that doesn’t have a “niche audience” should be rather light, IMO).

Of course, some meth-infused dude may simply dislike what his old lady neighbor has posted. We can’t account for anyone’s sanity. But I would really doubt that anyone incited about Epstein files would go to a rural area 60 miles from a Mexican border to abduct an 84-year-old wheelchair-bound lady with a pacemaker, as a form of protest.

Nancy doesn’t have a huge following, she is not an influencer.

I would still think that the motive is financial.

What another poster mentioned (some obsessed weirdo) is possible as well.

Political, tbh, seems less likely.
Nothing about this location is rural. It’s seven miles from a massive university. It’s 1.5 miles from a Tiffany and Co. :)

It just is a large lot upscale neighborhood with few streetlights (to preserve serenity, not because it’s rural)

Something is telling me this whole ransom situation is a hoax and this story is going to make another 360 degree turn. I'm thinking LE already knows this and it's their way of smoking out the real perpetrator (s).....what's going to happen when there is no reply to the ransom request? Am I off my rocker or what?

Here's why I'm skeptical the ransom note is real:

You've got this sloppy crime, with forced entry and blood.

Then you've got this seemingly well planned ransom demand, with a Bitcoin account already set up.

Those two things don't seem to jibe.

You've also got this delay in making the demand, and zero proof of life.

So either this ransom demand is real and was an afterthought, or it's being made by a different person altogether.
I don't know, maybe they wanted the crime scene to be sloppy, or obvious, making it clear it was a robbery gone wrong, or abduction for ransom? The blood spatter on the front porch is confusing to me as it has an area of cast off, or aspirated blood, with drops around it. What could have caused the area of fine spray cast off in that spot? For a gunshot, or blow to cause cast off in that position, the victim would have to be laying on the ground wouldn't they?

**Press conference today**
WHEN: 11AM Local time (1PM EST)
WHO: Pima County Sheriff's Department
WATCH: FOX10 Phoenix (Live News Stream: Watch FOX 10 Phoenix)
Drat’s, I just realized I have an appointment during the press conference today. If the ransom demand isn’t legitimate, why would they waste their time to publicly make a video statement? Strategy? Why show it instead of responding directly to the people who are making the demands, unless they only have the account details for where they want the money to go?

Fresh doubt has been cast on the tip off that first led to alarms being raised over Nancy Guthrie's shock abduction this weekend, the Daily Mail can reveal.

A fellow congregant at Nancy's church in Tucson, Arizona, was initially reported to have alerted the 84-year-old's family after she failed to attend a morning service on Sunday.

Curiously, however, a source has now told the Daily Mail that the elderly mother had not been at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church for years.

Ever since the Covid pandemic, she has been worshipping 'online'.

It is understood that St. Andrews does not have a large-scale Zoom call for online viewing, as some religious organizations do.

{That is very interesting--IS IT ACCURATE?]

TIMELINE:

Saturday, January 31
9.45pm
Nancy Guthrie, 84, arrives at her home in the

Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, Arizona.

She had spent the evening having dinner with

family, including her daughter Annie, who drove

her home. It is believed Annie is the last person to

have seen her mother, at 9.45pm.
Sunday, February 1
2am
Nancy's pacemaker last syncs with her Apple

devices at home. Investigators believe

she is abducted around this time.
11am
Nancy fails to arrive at her regular church service.

A member of the congregation calls her family.
Savannah Guthrie and her mother Nancy, 84
11.10am
Family members arrive at her home to find it empty.

zona home
Tucson
12.15pm
Nancy is reported missing to

Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Monday, February 2
Sheriff Chris Nanos says he believes Nancy was taken against her will, between

approximately 9.30pm Saturday and 11am Sunday.

The home is treated as a potential crime scene and homicide detectives are involved.
Maybe the "churchgoer" was actually the captor calling to notify the family? Or if family was involved it was a fake call between husband to wife to set the stage? Surely Annie identified the caller to LE? But if she hadn't attended in years how would anyone know to miss her? Sorry, but at 84 and wheelchair bound, it's not likely that NG was used to transferring herself into her car, and stowing her wheelchair on her own, to drive herself to church...too may unanswered questions around this aspect of the case.

Things that point to a ransom angle (MOO)

- NG seems to have left the property alive. (Blood trail suggesting non fatal injury, sheriff stating he thinks she’s alive)
- Ransom note mentions things potentially only the offender would know.
- Close relationship to someone famous (SG)
- LE seems to be taking it seriously, suggesting something in the note points to its validity and/or corresponds to the scene.
- Family was shown the note immediately and decided to put out the response video.

Things that point away from ransom (MOO)

- Waiting 24 hrs+ to make demands.
- An odd choice of victim (senior so more liability, SG may be famous, but non controversial)
- The Thursday/Monday situation.
- The extensive knowledge the offender seemed to have of the home and security systems (knew NG would be alone, smashing cameras)

IMOO, the ransom angle is a bit out there, but seemingly more likely as things play out. I’m leaning towards someone who knows NG abducting her for personal or financial purposes, but adding the ransom in it is odd. If they are keeping NG captive and going to release her once they get their payout, she would obviously identify them if there’s a personal tie. I hate to say this, but it feels like NG isn’t supposed to return regardless (I hope I’m wrong)
I’ll say this…if the ransom demand is a hoax the real perpetrator(s) have to be thrilled that LE is having to devote so much time to it.

Let me rephrase that to wheelchair dependent. Someone said she couldn't walk further than 50ft (or maybe it was yards) on her own? If that's the case, would seem that she would need her wheelchair or a rollator/walker for backup. Again, probably not capable of loading such on her own.

I agree with you. I just don't see this as hired help showing up late Sat night early Sun. Also, if she was in pain as family video states, and had health issues, why the heck was she living alone and not at least someone, family, caregiver, help her in bed each night and make sure she is comfortable, safe, and secure while she sleeps? Just bizarre to me
One of my friends had terminal cancer and would only accept help if he was feeling really bad, like unable to get groceries or go to the atm. He didn’t want to give up and we all had to respect that. When things got worse he started accepting help and soon after, asking for help. So I totally get why Nancy still lived independently in her home and with minimal care, and why her kids allowed it. I think that unless you’ve been close to someone who is in the same predicament it’s hard to understand because we naturally want to take over for the person’s benefit.

The article says that the church zoom does not show the online participants:

"Instead, the church's 9am and 10.45am services on Sundays are live-streamed and it is impossible for other participants to know who else is watching."

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has said a congregant called Nancy's family at 11am on Sunday after she failed to arrive at church.

Our source did not know who called the family, but said Nancy was 'known and loved in the whole community.'

Some churches stream their services at multiple sites.

I checked the St. Andrews Pres FB page, and they post streaming services to their page with a live feed/ability to post comments in real-time.

FWIW, I didn't see NG "liking" or commenting on any of those FB posts streaming the service, so who knows about the report that she only attended virtually.

As others have said, if only the Daily Mail is reporting something, take that something with a grain of salt.

I do have real questions about the timing of the phone call to her family from the church, given that the services are at 9 and 10:45. People would not contact family unless they had tried to reach her first, so LE will no doubt have checked to verify whether that person had tried to call NG first, or who reached out to whom that morning.

That phone call just seemed oddly reminiscent of the Morphew case and "the daughters becoming concerned" and calling the neighbor to go check on Suzanne.

JMO.

I’m not sure what to think. If we’re hearing this, you know the family is too. Anything is possible, but I hope it doesn’t go this way for the family’s sake. I can’t imagine what they’re going through, they all looked exhausted and lost. Is it likely some sort of security is posted at NG’s home right now or put up some cameras to keep an eye on things?

In regard to the brother not speaking, if my brother believed it was a possibility that our mom had been kidnapped, he wouldn’t be able to hide his fury while speaking. That would not make the kidnapper more amenable to letting her go, if there actually was a kidnapper.

There’s been no mention of a wheelchair at all. She’s been pictured with a cane.
