AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

  • #4,661
SHORT VERSION:
*Family members can be discussed as suspects because the sheriff has not cleared anyone.
*Nancy's very political posts could be a reason for her kidnapping. Any discussions about her postings must be discussed in connection with the kidnapping
*NO POLITICS

*Use initials when discussing the family.

I can’t tell you exactly how to post, but I can ask that you use common sense.
Because the sheriff has not cleared anyone—including family members—discussions about family members are allowed. That’s not my personal opinion; that is the current status of the investigation.
NO POLITICS.
While Nancy’s very vocal political posts may be relevant to why she was taken, that does not open the door to political debate in this thread.
Please remember: your words have power.
What you say here stays on the internet forever. The people being discussed—or their loved ones—may read these posts someday. Keep that in mind before you hit “post.”
Tricia

You guys do such a great job, thank you Tricia!! WS has always been my go to for this reason! Thank you for all you do!!

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed>

i don't see how it's possible that the SIL does this without AG being involved because she'd know if he was gone in the middle of the night and either had to act as his alibi or has already reported that to the police (which i assume she didn't do because this case would look very different if that were the case). and i feel like it wouldn't be hard to nail down spouses lying for each other - i have to imagine it's fairly obvious to LE right away, even if they can't immediately act on it.

so, they could still be investigating this behind the scenes. maybe the circus over the ransom note is just to throw the potential suspects off LE's scent (i really don't think this is the case, what a massive waste of resources) or maybe it goes deeper and there was like, a hit hired or something? i just don't know...

I wonder how much similarity there is in all the ransom notes/emails as far as the watch, the floodlight, the ransom amounts, and the dates, etc.? Obviously the one ransom note seems to have been given more credence for some reason(s).

I also feel that the watch was maybe discussed prior to the ransom demand being sent (although no one really knows when that happened), so not sure how meaningful it is.
The FBI agent during the press conference said the notes sent to KOLD, KGUN, TMZ were identical

if N was left at the door whilst the car was retrieved, wouldn't the blood pool? Also the risk of N raising alarm or someone discovering her injured? IMO she was carried out the door.
And this gives me pause bc carrying an adult who may have been incapacitated would be difficult!

I get stuck here too. I understand the camera that’s offline is of no use. But, are all cameras now offline because 1 is? The camera that alerted at 2:whatever …or any other camera in the house…why weren’t they functional?

To me it sounds like they were, but the images weren't stored anywhere so nothing for LE to go back and actually see.

It is an imortant piece, but if for example it wasnt forced, it points in a certain direction and they may not want that person to feel they are a suspect?
but then that person knows already, yes?

Thanks for this.
So no copycat type of activity.

Her family would likely have a key and not need to force entry....obviously. JMO.
Perhaps NG felt ultra secure in her home - no noted problems - that she, after being awakened, actually opened the door?

Unless she was asleep and didn't know he left and returned. He could have left all devices at home to not be tracked. Not sure about vehicle, if it can be tracked somehow

I believe this was calculated based on the camera timeline alone and here is why:

Assuming the front door was not replaced before media arrived- it seems like it takes a good amount of effort to get through two doors if you are just an opportunistic criminal searching for an easy target. Additionally nothing was reported stolen. So Nancy was clearly the target whether that be for SA or ransom or for some other sick twisted reason.

From Sherrif's Timeline:
1:47 AM Doorbell camera disconnects
2:12 AM Camera Software detects person/movement but no video

It seems though the perp decided first to remove the doorbell camera which is an odd choice considering you can't avoid the camera if you're walking up the walkway. And then they walked around the back or side as another camera detects motion 20 minutes later. This seems like a lot of effort for an opportunistic criminal. Which points to it being a more confident criminal or someone with the specific mission to kidnap or harm Nancy :(
I have a ring doorbell very easy to be disconnected from outside The other cameras I have around my property are not a ring doorbell cameras. They are wired running to the main computer. When any one of them goes off-line it picks back up recording once back online.

NG went in via the garage when she was driven home. door closed behind her.

garage door didn't open again so perps didn't sneak in through the garage.
Or leave through it.

The network appears to be tightening security for employees and their families as a precaution, in case the abduction is linked to SG’s celebrity status.
Is NBC sending another, “ less visible” team to cover Olympics?

If they're driving that Honda they were pictured in, no tracking. Looks like 2005 or earlier.

They spent at least 41 mins inside the home. What were they doing the rest of the time? I'm afraid this was a robbery gone wrong and not a kidnapping.

deleted.... due to my illogical conclusion.

Would it be illegal for LE to plant a listening device in someone's home?

Ok but these notes have not yet proven to be fake? And there was a 4th note that someone was arrested for that LE knew was fake?

but then that person knows already, yes?
They may not know that they are suspected, but it police indicate that there was no forced entry they may assume then that they are top suspect....

I can understand no cloud, but someone other than Nancy should have gotten notifications as well. She is an 84 year old woman with mobility issues, a pacemaker, is in pain every day, and requires daily medication. I’m guessing no central station burglar alarm, no life alert device, and we know no subscription service for the cameras. it appears that Nancy really was self sufficient and it seems that the household help was truly to take care of the house-not Nancy herself.
My son gets alerts for my cameras.

Right. I was referencing the ransom note that they claim to have arrested someone for? Was that letter also identical and if so how did they access it in order to send an identical copy? Maybe I'm just confused....
