Can someone give me a quick refresh on what is known about the DNA sample(s) being tested? I haven’t been able to follow along this past week. I am curious to know whether what’s being discussed in the quoted piece is 1) a mixed DNA sample, or 2) contamination. If it’s a mixed DNA sample, that should have been known from the results from the original DNA typing (which presumably was STR typing since a profile or profiles were searched in CODIS). And if that’s the case, I’m curious as to why this would be coming out as a new snag *now* versus before. Maybe it’s just the messaging and imprecise wording that’s the issue here, but I would like to wrap my mind around it with some actual facts.

I would say it's an assumption that AG would call her mother to ask her to take an Uber. Perhaps, NG offered to take an Uber to go to AG's house to maintain her independence. Who knows? Why are we even delving into conjectures about family dynamics?

As far as I'm concerned, LE has cleared the Guthrie family, and that's where it stands. I don't think it's fair to try to find a fifth leg on a cat just because it's a slow news night. Everyone is frustrated, and NG's entire family isn't sitting around having fun while this is unfolding.

• They have been victims of a crime.
• Their mother might be dead and her body can't be found.
• Their mother might be alive and suffering.
• Perfect strangers feel completely comfortable dissecting presence, absence, silence, words just because SG is a journalist and a public figure.
• Every time the phone rings they have to hold their breath waiting to see if there are any news.

These are adult children of an elderly woman who has been abducted and suffered an act of violence in her home. She's disappeared. She might never be found. They have to deal with this as her children, but also as the parents of her grandchildren and with the whole world watching.

Can we PLEASE, for the love of whatever it is each and every one of us believes in, stop speculating about the family? Put yourselves in their shoes for a second.

Imagine that once (in the most banal way) you did something to a parent, whether it's tell them to go to CVS themselves, or take an Uber, or not call until after 9 a.m. because you want to sleep in, or not answer the phone because you were just not in the mood, and then...Lord help us...something happens to that parent and the whole world starts speculating about how crappy you were to them and maybe you had something to do with what has happened.

My mother has been dead, of natural causes, for nearly ten years, and I still torture myself about the times I rolled my eyes at her chatter. Do we REALLY think that her children are not completely floored by the little things they did/didn't do while NG is missing?

These people, famous though they may be, are dealing with their mother's disappearance, and 100% guaranteed they have revisited every what if ad nauseam...all while the whole world is watching. There is not a bit of peace available to them right now, and it's heartbreaking.

Did the sheriff's office ask people to stop calling in tips? Not as far as I know. Investigators will always welcome concrete, productive information. I think investigators may wish to reduce the volume of frivolous, un-useful information and suggestions . As you say, the amount of manhours required to record, track, and evaluate vague or irrelevant tips hinders their ability to develop leads from actionable information.

This isn't the initial media article I saw but it effectively states the same thing.

Certainly NG must have had more of these than we know for certain (phone, watch).

Is it likely LE is attempting to retrieve data that might have been collected from any of these in an attempt to determine WHO and HOW MANY were in NG's home the night of Jan 31/February 1? I wonder if "exceptions to the usual" faces/voices could be whittled out of that data?

There’s a better interview with the sheriff, in which he explains clearly that it’s mixed DNA. Perhaps someone can find it and re-post it.

The sheriff immediately sent all crime scene DNA to the Florida lab. By the time the FBI came( day 3), FBI recommended Quantico, but the sheriff had already started at FL lab, Sheriff didn’t want to switch horses. There was more to it, if someone can find the video? Posted way back.

Most think FBI lab would be quicker, more affective. Anyway, the DNA results are coming along. The samples are big enough to double up if they need to, FL lab, plus FBI lab.
Hoping to identify the perp soon.

Yes, as I recall, Sheriff has given two different explanations about that. One was that he wanted to stick with the one he had been using for years. The other was that the FBI didn't see any sense in splitting the evidence up at two labs, as if Quantico couldn't compare results they achieved with results another lab got. MOO

The Uber is another of those things where I struggle to understand the mystery. Many older folks don't like to drive after dark. It could just be that she knew she would be out after dark, so she ubered to their house. That way they could drive her home in the dark without bothering about her car. That might even be their typical way of allowing her to feel comfortable staying for a while after dinner.
