Well Carlos is clearly angling for a lawsuit/settlement. The minute he was cleared he and his family had been giving interviews about his property being damaged and how his detention was "unfair" and he then got a lawyer.

Yah I wouldn't be surprised if a number of ambulance chaser kinda lawyers didn't approach him and offer pro bono to go after compensation.

Am I a bad person for smirking when Ford asked "Carlos, when did you realise that your name, your family's name had spread over the internet really quickly...didn't it..?" and I'm saying "When your mother-in-law GAVE your full name (even spelling it) to Brian Entin when he was LIVE broadcasting to the World"... that's when :D

Brian Entin’s latest will make @Napoli very happy.

Have there been other unsolved disappearances of elderly people in the area?

Totally agree, this is 100% what I believe happened as well.
Immediately when I saw the footage, I got the vibe that this is what happened. Can't really explain why, just a horrible gut feeling.
What a terrible end for such a nice lady.

So, you think it was happenstance he chose NG? What about the early ransom notes?

  • #37,124
OMG what would they have to hide with a blanket/tarp ? I thought they only did that with a body?
There were a lot of onlookers. I assume they had some possible evidence that they didn't want the public to looky, looky, see, see, film and upload for the entire world to see...

A sexual assault? What does everyone think? It is a possibility although my mind doesn't want to go ther

I'm pretty sure they use privacy tents as a normal practice during searches. They would not perform any testing under those conditions.

I've thought about this and it's a definite possibility but I disagree about a few points in @Oldguy's theory. If he spends 40ish minutes sexually assaulting NG, then why:

1. Wouldn't his DNA be found in her home?
2. Don't le know it's a sexual attack? The crime scene would reveal it and something would have leaked. The Sheriff doesn't have a poker face and I think he would have gave something away inadvertently.
3. The early ransom letters revealed info that should have been known only to investigators and perp

I cannot get around those items to see that as a plausible theory. I fully know there are sexual assault on elderly, but I don't feel that here. Unless we get some more information that aligns with a sexual motive.

For those who may have (mistakenly) claimed the Sheriff has cleared NG's family members (e.g., AG & SIL) I disagree.

Consider the following:

Is there a source that AG called her mom to tell her to use an Uber? I’ve been away so missed that.

Also, sheriff didn’t “soften” that statement from 8 days ago, he said NG’s kids and spouses were clear four days ago:

Has that changed?
I don't think the daughter AG specifically said "You'll have to use Uber." It may have been clearly implied. It was more like, "Sorry we can't pick you up Friday night."
My apologies to the moderators. I could find no link.

Many saw the sheriff's 'amended statement as an effort to show empathy towards a family dealing with unimaginable grief.

He does strike me as a very caring person who has unquestionably had some missteps.

P.S.

Here's another report about the SIL's friend Dominic Evans which peaked my curiosity. MOO

Sickened by reading this, but curious on what facts leads you to this opinion?

Are they hiding something being removed or blocking the identity of the person driving, first time I am seeing these, thanks for posting I have been so far behind. They wouldn't be protecting the identity of the driver with a tarp right? It would have to be something taken from vehicle? I can't think what they would have to hide other than something sensitive for viewing like someting with blood? I am just used to car accident scenes where they blanket and tarp all body parts and blood so public doesn't have to see it. But if they let person go it couldn't have been blood this is maddening. Something needing to be hidden but released the person driving said vehicle, more things that make no sense I guess.

Yes, as I recall, Sheriff has given two different explanations about that. One was that he wanted to stick with the one he had been using for years. The other was that the FBI didn't see any sense in splitting the evidence up at two labs, as if Quantico couldn't compare results they achieved with results another lab got. MOO
I am not well versed in DNA technology. But for what it's worth, I recall the explanation that sending new samples to the lab that handled previous samples in the case could reduce processing time, basically that they'd be able to build on work they'd already done. MOO because I don't recall if I read that explanation here or MSM.

The quote below states the private lab already had the samples taken from the family and close contacts of NG. That may be why results could be eliminated or matched faster at the private lab.
Nanos told CBS News correspondent Jonathan Vigliotti in an interview Friday that his agency has been sending evidence to a Florida lab for years, and he doesn't want samples sent to two different facilities.

"It adds a step that's not needed," Nanos said. "If you have two labs you're looking at, and one's bad or one's better, that's fine. That's not the case here, nobody's saying that."

Nanos said the Florida lab has samples taken from the Guthrie family and people who have worked at Nancy Guthrie's home to compare against the evidence that has been gathered during the investigation.

"Let's just use one lab, they have it all, the reports are generated, those reports are shared between both agencies, and we keep moving," Nanos said.

Sheriff Nanos also clarified that the FBI didn't want to send all new evidence to Quantico, they only wanted to send a couple of the gloves recovered. Nanos thought it'd be better to send all DNA samples to the private lab that has all the profiles and markers. And the FBI agreed.

"Actually, the FBI just wanted to send the one or two [gloves] they found by the crime scene, closest to it—mile, mile and a half," Nanos told News 4 Tucson. "I said 'No, why do that? Let’s just send them all to where all the DNA exist, all the profiles and the markers exist.' They agreed, makes sense."

What if you are running around the house for 41 minutes screaming 'where are the gems?!' and she keeps saying 'what gems?! I don't have gems' and then you threaten to harm her unless she shows you where the gems are and she says, 'wait, my daughter has money- don't hurt me - she will pay you!' ... just one theory of how it could've gone down.
I had similar thoughts at first of this theory too. I'm just really bothered by an apparent lack of evidence at the crime scene, house- entry, escape route, transport, and the cyber part of this. Even the surprise video didn't help much- exLE describe amateurish actions yet this guy appears calm to me. I think that's an awful lot of luck but I still consider it and it makes my brain hurt.

We have long suspected that the suspect at the front door of Nancy Guthrie’s home on the day that she disappeared was wearing nitrile gloves layered over some other glove.
I think our porch guy may have been wearing nitrile bbq gloves that actually come with a cotton liner. This is an example of a pair that just happened to pop up on Amazon. There are several different brands.

The only problem with that is that the FBI has said they would need additional testing which would take additional time. Would have been better off to just listen to the FBI and have it entered into CODIS much quicker which should be the ultimate goal IMO.
THE FBI and state authorities did require additional testing or a "re-verification" process before DNA data could be officially entered into CODIS.
While a private lab in
Florida
(DNA Labs International) initially tested the evidence, several procedural and legal barriers necessitated further steps in
Arizona
and by the FBI:
  • Private Lab Restrictions: Private laboratories cannot upload DNA profiles directly to CODIS. Only accredited government labs (state or federal) have the authorization to perform these uploads.
  • State Jurisdictional Requirements: Federal protocols often require that DNA evidence be processed or verified by a lab in the state where the crime occurred (in this case, Arizona) before it can be uploaded to the National DNA Index System (NDIS).
  • FBI Quality Control: Even after receiving preliminary results from the Florida lab, the FBI stated they were awaiting "quality control and official confirmation" before entering any unknown male profiles into the national database.
  • Retesting in Arizona: Reports confirmed that after the Florida testing, the key piece of evidence (a glove) was sent back to Arizona to be re-tested or reviewed by the state system to facilitate the CODIS entry.
Once these protocols were met, the profile was run through CODIS, which ultimately produced no matches. Consequently, investigators have shifted their focus to Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy (FIGG) to find potential relatives of the suspect.
Would you like to know more about how genetic genealogy differs from a standard CODIS search in this investigation?

In addition experts have said that small samples can be fully consumed by private laboratories testing standards.

Post DBM.

Edited: @Bluewing3102 informed me that this may be LE's car NOT the Range Rover. I checked into it and he is correct it is LE's car NOT the RR. Apologies for assuming it was LD's.

I found a picture that partially shows the trunk area of the Range Rover.

Can anyone else make out what those items are in the back?

It looks to me like it could be a black backpack 👀 and some kind of container.

The only thing I can make out are the shoes on the left.
