I must have missed it, but can anyone say if the DA's office people were definitely there yesterday? Because that can be a sign of a grand jury convening.

Most crimes scenes are turned back over within days, even in unsolved or unusual crimes. It's extremely unusual for LE to hold onto the scene for this length of time.
It was released and "sealed" back a few times already (3 IIRC). The Sheriff even said he regrets releasing it the first time and maybe in hindsight would have asked the family to have had police tape around it longer.

We've had pizza deliveries to the front door and a pool cleaning crew come within that time.

The crime scene eventually was closed again so the FBI could conduct its own search, and Nanos told reporters opening the scene up the first time may have been premature.

“Monday morning quarterback. Absolutely. I probably could have held off on that,” Nanos said at a news conference, with top FBI agents flanking him.

Wow. I feel really badly that the family was discouraged from offering a larger reward from the beginning. I really hope this case can be solved and the family can have peace in some way.

Yes. But I think there's some truth in the belief that a reward that large shouldn't be done from the jump, and could have led to a massive amount of useless tips.

That makes sense. It does seem to me that they received an insane amount of tips regardless of the initial lower reward amount. Let's hope that some of those tips are viable leads.

I haven't been able to find a link confirming the DA's office specifically, just this article from Fox about federal prosecutors.

Recently, SG has offered up to one million for the return of her mom/INFORMATION LEADING TO ARREST AND CONVICTION etc. in alignment with FBI rules. She ALSO is donating 500,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

People donate their money to charities all the time. We have a family tradition of looking for results. 4 star financial transparentl filings and a strong mission are but 2 things we look at. Use of donations and salaries relative to their donations and operating costs is key.

Charity Navigator - Rating for National Center for Missing & Exploited Children

How does a donation to this organization improve their outcomes? Would the money be better utilized by forming a trust/ 5013c or something else that could make direct donations to affected families? 500k is a lot of money. What is the target utilization for that generally or in the NG case, specifically since she is mentioned on the charity navigator site. ?

In your vast experience, how effective is this organization in giving their resources and what resources do they make available to families aside from entering names in a national database?

I am truly curious as to what this organization accomplishes over any time period.". Ongoing support, flyers, boots on the ground, monetary help for the family? Geared to missing minor's families? Young adult families? Age criteria? Other guidelines? Thanks for any verifiable insights you may have. JMO MOO

Law enforcement is preparing to return Nancy Guthrie’s Arizona home to her family, sources say, as the search for her is in its fourth week.

Guthrie, 84, the mother of “TODAY” show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing Feb. 1.

For weeks, her home in the Tucson area has been the center of a flurry of law enforcement activity — including the recovery of DNA evidence. Activity seen Wednesday is related to efforts to turn the home back over to the Guthrie family, two federal law enforcement sources told NBC News.

Officials acknowledged that law enforcement no longer sees the need to seal the premises as a crime scene or restrict the family from entering...

DBM - definitely appears to not be related. Still unclear why all the major networks were tipped off to be there… but probably not for this thread…

I was watching a live stream while doing dishes last night and there’s still deliveries being made to her house. Last night UPS made a delivery around 1030pm. A deputy is watching the house at night. He walked down to the road and got the delivery directly from the driver. I don’t think they’ll make that same mistake again with random front door deliveries. At least I hope not.

You can see the delivery in this video. Go to around 1:24 ( one hour 24 min)

Right! And the large reward in the beginning, (while the victim is still alive, negotiating, might remind/ encourage other bad actors to kidnap wealthy people.

Tough to say if it would have made a difference here.

Just an idea.

I don’t believe the case is going cold at all, not with all the interest, worldwide. SG’s continued pleas to get NG back. Still very active.

I think they are scaling back a lot, and well they should, 400 FBI was really too many. IMO. Kind of bad optics, unless the perp was caught right away. Other missing persons cases felt badly, not as much help.

I do believe the evidence they have found, and more being tested, will give some good leads.
Plus more leads in the tip line with people to look at. NG’s body will eventually be found by Cajon Navy, desert off-roaders, or searchers/ mountain hikers viewing cliff areas. ( sorry).

I believe the case will be solved.

Thank you for your post, I needed to hear this today.

Probably not related, but posting this because someone tipped off the press and would be almost exactly a 7-hour drive from Tucson. And I believe they said “7 hours after payment” in one letter?

Like I said, more likely than not, it is totally unrelated… but I can’t figure out why all the press attention when I woke up for my normal 5am start. Especially right after a day where the house was crawling with feds.

Yeah. That 7 hour zone was formulated by Harvey Levin (and covers 4 entire states, parts of TX, CA, and Mexico). He based it on a lot of assumptions.

One, being that they would leave right away, that they were traveling by car and that they would "maintain the speed limit". Of course the time could just mean the time they decided to give her back. In reality they might be 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes away and return her 7 hours later just because they felt like that was their time buffer, there's nothing definitive. Plus that's counting on the "ransom" email being genuine, which many doubt. I imagine investigators looked into this presumptive "radius" with a more nuanced analysis. One of many tidbits in this case that stands on a very speculative foundation.

Page 90 of Savannah Guthrie’s book ‘MOSTLY WHAT GOD DOES’ :

‘About once a year, in the summertime, cousin T… orchestrated a kidnapping of my sister and me. It went down like this: the cousins would visit for a few days at our house in Tucson, and then, on the morning they were to leave, T…would wake us up early, searching us in the predawn darkness as we made our escape. We would all pile into her rickety station wagon and head north, the sky streaking with bright oranges and pinks as the sun rose over the colors, desert landscape. Somewhere between Phoenix and Tucson, T…would make a pitstop and let Annie and recall home at a payphone.“Mom! Cousin T… kidnapped us to take us to her house! “My mother would faint shock, protest, how terrible she would miss us, then assure us she’d drive up to retrieve us in a few days.’

(No link, because I own the book and am quoting this short passage from it. Hope that’s alright.)

The cousin’s name was deleted by me. Family is not to be discussed and has been cleared. The mentioning of a kidnapping as a children’s play in SG’s book has been mentioned on MSN and here. Nothing new. However, if we even think of an individual wanting to hurt SG, I would hope LE was and is still checking out that area between Tucson and Phoenix.

It would be roughly here:

It would be worth to have the heli out there and perhaps talk to the native Navajo/Apache. They would have seen a lit up car in the middle of the dark night out in the desert..MOO!!

Just a thought.

ALL IMO

Between the 1:25-1:55 timestamp--- it looks like investigators are closely looking at the area beyond the artificial grass where the wall leads out to the pool deck area. I remember reading weeks ago that some small piece of evidence was found in the pool?
Would like to here from you sleuths why they are focused on this area?

-An older woman would probably open the door at night for someone she knew.
-Or perhaps for a younger woman pretending to be in distress or in need of help. Maybe made to look pregnant.
I don’t see her going to the front door in the middle of the night, as most people wouldn’t, IMO. I think as SG said, she was taken from her bed. That makes more sense.

The FBI has finally released NG's home back to the family.
[...]
(NewsNation) — Law enforcement is preparing to return Nancy Guthrie’s Arizona home to her family after a flurry of activity at the residence, according to multiple reports.

The surge in FBI agents was reportedly a final sweep for evidence before the property is returned to her children, including “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie.

I agree in theory with what you are saying but they ended up with thousands and thousands of tips anyway prior to the reward offered by the NG family the other day. That alone has generated many, many more tips. I believe among these tips , perhaps given in a not so urgent verbiage, lies the answer. It's the weeding through the tips, the person who takes the tip, the "pile" the tip goes into and many other variables that will determine what is construed as a tip that will be followed up. Sadly, many COLD cases are solved that way, years later. Cold case investigators go back, look at names that were phoned in but not acted upon..and the rest is history. JMO
