AZ Nancy Guthrie (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

Family dropped her off at home at around 9:30pm Friday night, and then she's reported missing by noon the next day, that's a fairly quick turnaround. I wonder if she missed an appointment or something.

ETA: Or maybe she had an in-home care provider due to her mobility issues who noticed her absence and the suspicious circumstances at the scene.
Does anyone know who dropped her off, and why so late? I wonder if it was a special celebration. Usually elderly people don’t stay up that late.

In the PC the Sheriff is asked if Samantha G is in AZ and he says no. You do wonder, with someone as recognized as her for covering the news on a major network with a well known show if this is somehow connected. Kidnapping, ransom (which would be super rare in the US today) . I don’t know. LE seems to be, and SG very careful and calm with their words. My random ramblings. IMO

I don’t have cable, did SG report the news as normal this morning?

Savannah Guthrie is on NBC and no she didn’t.

As one with an elderly mother you try to prepare yourself for a call that something has happened but you aren't prepared for the call that something has happened and your mom's missing.

Especially with no reports of cognitive decline.

It’s also important to remember that even older women with children can be in a DV relationship. No idea if that is the case here, but something to consider.

I wondered if she's living in a gated community. I am hopeful that there are cameras around the community and neighbors have them too
I was wondering the same. I couldn’t find any mention of that. Maybe she walked in on a break-in. Although it’s considered safe, no gates in upscale neighborhoods are a lure for robbers. As a previous poster mentioned, regular workers might know she was going out that night.
Did she leave lights on for herself knowing she’d be out after dark? Did the family members who dropped her off walk her in or at least walk her to the door? She is of sound mind, but does have health issues. What did LE find at the scene that immediately raised red flags?
Perhaps when she got home she fell and hit her head at some point which caused bleeding and confusion and she wandered away.
Finding blood or disarray at a missing victim’s home will obviously call for a parallel investigation; one for the search for the victim and one for the reason why they are missing.

Good questions. Did they walk her to her front door or stay in the car watching her enter her home? I read that she had mobility issues, so I’m thinking she may have been walking with someone. Was someone hiding inside? Or outside out of sight, then ringing the doorbell? Very sad situation.

The area is a little hilly, and not really very walkable, even more so for an 84 year old women. The fact that she is not in the immediate area around her home is by itself alarming.

-Its not like the northeast where you could walk across backyards, its little hills and small ravines and small washes that would make it difficult to be anywhere that wouldn't be very visible

My own post. I’m immediately off any kidnapping and ransom $$ requests. That thought plummeted to the bottom of my list pretty much as soon as I posted it. IMO

I'm not reading anywhere that states she was dropped off at home, only that she is missing from her home. Maybe a family member visited her Sat evening but they didn't go anywhere? IMO
I meant to tag/reply to @Starkville 's post

If something nefarious happened to Mrs. Guthrie what would be the reason to remove her from the scene? If the scene has led homicide detectives to be investigating I don't understand where she is. JMO

What I find interesting about this flyer from Pima County Sheriff’s Department is that it said it is unknown what Nancy Guthrie was wearing when she disappeared. Surely if she was out with family for any length of time, they could describe what she was wearing.
Were the clothes she had on that evening found at her home?

That's a great question.

One scenario is: let's go to the ATM machine

Or things didn't go as planned and they wanted to remove the most damning evidence.

@OldCop She could have been in a nightgown or something. We don't know when she actually disappeared

Well, if she was dropped off at 930, then a call came in the next day at noon, she could've changed outfits multiple times by that point (pajamas, new outfit in the morning). They likely can't say with accuracy currently.
