AZ Nancy Guthrie (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

My question is why does someone take an 84 year old woman?
If they kidnapped her thinking they could get some ransom money because of her celebrity daughter, there should have been a ransom note or call by now I think.
If she were 24 years old, she would have been taken, abused and buried in a shallow grave by now, but why do you take an 84 year old?
If it was a personal grudge or something, I think her body would have been found at the house.
Weird.

Jenna Bush Hager, co-host of the fourth hour of “TODAY,” reported on-air that Nancy Guthrie needs to take medication on a daily basis to survive.

The FBI is aware of the case, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection is also assisting.

I’m sure she didn’t mention Nancy needing her medication daily to survive to cause any harm, but I wish she would have kept that information to herself.

I’m not finding that now either.
I was going by @Ab801 post up thread:
Family dropped her off at home at around 9:30pm Friday night, and then she's reported missing by noon the next day, that's a fairly quick turnaround. I wonder if she missed an appointment or something.

ETA: Or maybe she had an in-home care provider due to her mobility issues who noticed her absence and the suspicious circumstances at the scene.
It was discussed in the press conference that Pima County Sheriff held last night.

I took it as a potential appeal to someone. IMO

Weird.
Or killed in her home (intentional or not) and then had to hide the body?

idk, just thinking about possible scenarios.

On the little that's been released so far, I have fairly grim expectations on this outcome. 😐
Same, you don't immediately engage the homicide squad without reason.

I wonder does Nancy have pets? Wish we knew more about the "disturbing or concerning circumstances" found at the residence.
It's reported there are meds she has to take daily to stay alive, so it could be something as simple as they were left behind.

I personally think it's more than just that, but playing devil's advocate.

Sometimes, not sure about this case, this is mentioned as an "appeal" to a unknown or possible kidnapper.

Anyone have a link to the presser?

I agree. I would assume it would first be considered wandering off in a confusion, even if the family says she is not mentally impaired. Or maybe she went outdoors for some reason and suffered a fall or medical emergency. Neither would involve homicide detectives.

Something in the house immediately concerned LE. My mind goes to blood, tbh.

"very concerning" scene at the home disturbs me. The poor woman. Let her be found safe!

Notes from presser:
-They believe they do in fact have a crime scene and a crime.
-84YO lady with physical ailments, challenges, and is need of medication that if she doesn't have in 24 hours, it can be fatal.
-Pleading with the community to contact if they have seen or heard anything.
-"We don't need another bad, tragic ending. We need some help."
