AZ Nancy Guthrie (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

More Q&A
-There is a search pattern map off screen being referenced.
-Want to stress that NG is of great sound mind, this isn't someone who just wandered off. Physical limits are based on age, she is as sharp as a tack.
-They have her cell phone and they are looking through it.
-945pm children dropped her off, she missed church and the family was called. Family got there around 11, searched and called 911.
-Can't say right now what time Nancy left the home (seems like they know and can't say).
-No immediate threats against Savannah.
-Want to see all cameras from the neighborhood, call if they see anything.
-She did live alone. There are house staff that help take care of the house, but no one lives in.

No mention of whether she has her own vehicle that I have heard so far. But sheriff did mention she was dropped off at home by family the night she was last seen.

From presser - says he believes she lives alone.
Couldn't walk 50 yards by herself.

IMO.

-National net as far as how much time has gone by.

LE in communication with Savannah's security and not ruling out any connection between that. Any connection to potential threats to Savannah and her mom are being checked on.

If this was a stranger to stranger crime, why would they remove the victim from her home? It seems if it was a robbery go wrong, they would try to get out of there as quickly as possible without someone seeing them leave with a body/her walking. I suspect it must be someone who knows her and tried to stage the scene as though she just wandered off, but they left something behind that makes the police think this is a crime scene. The family initially did a search and thought she wandered off somewhere. If the family thought there was a crime scene when they first saw her home, they surely would have called 911 immediately and not done a search on their own.

I wonder how she normally got to church. Would she drive herself or did someone take her?

Because they're saying she couldn't've left on her own, I doubt she could've driven herself to church.

Given that the sheriff is saying she's (a) of sound mind and (b) unable to walk 50 yards, it sounds odd to me that the family might've thought she'd wandered off. But maybe they thought her helpers took her on some legitimate trip?

He mentioned that search and rescue are home to rest, not sure if that means they are coming back. To me it's weird that no one is actively searching now.
IMO, I have a feeling they are at a loss currently. She didn't walk herself anywhere in the immediate area, but without knowing where to start looking beyond that, they need the community's and technology's help instead of continuing a search that they are fairly certain will be fruitless.

It also sounds like they are shifting from a "missing" scenario to a "crime" scenario.

In the photo with her cane it does look like she has a smart watch. Hopefully she had it on when she went missing.

When she was dropped off at home, perhaps a criminal element was already in the house.

Maybe he meant it in a general way about being safe in one's home, going to sleep in one's bed, but it made me wonder if she didn't actually get to go to bed that night.

I think I'm going to hate this story.

Bracing...

This is my thought too. I originally thought there must have been blood or obvious signs of a struggle, but then the sheriff said the family searched for her themselves for an hour or so.

I do not believe this will wind up being connected to Savannah's profession. I believe this is a homicide though.

Whoever did this appears to have been sloppy, leaving clear signs at the scene that this was foul play.

In a burglary gone wrong that turns into a homicide, it's rare to take the body, unless, the offender has some connection to the victim.

So I'd like to know if there are signs of a burglary in the first place, but either way, I think it's far more probable than not that Nancy had some sort of connection with the person or persons who did this.

That seems to be a well-to-do area, and if the cameras at the home aren't helpful for some reason, hopefully neighbor's cameras are helpful. I don't think this will be an enduring mystery though.

yes, I was wondering if maybe she interrupted a home invasion and things quickly went awry from there. Perhaps they took her to try to get her to withdraw funds from bank accounts or something. Because if they just wanted no witness they would be more likely to harm and leave her there at her home.

Perhaps she can't ambulatory without her cane. Could maybe drive independently, go to church independently, with the aid of her cane.

I'm guessing her cane was at home...

But also other alarming evidence, scary to imagine what that could be.

Is it true it's a gated community?

Manned gate?

How would someone drive her out?

Smuggled out in a vehicle that had reason to be there? Delivery vehicle for instance...

Why her?

Someone obsessed with Savannah but couldn't get access to her?

Kidnapping for ransom seems almost hopeful... because at least she's still alive in the scenario... but where's the ransom request?

Botched abduction?
