The only case I can think of off the top of my head where a person removed a body from the home after murder was the woman in New York who was located in a suitcase. In that case she had been having an affair, ended things, and the ex-lover was the culprit.
JMO but I believe it will be someone similarly close to the victim. Maybe not a lover, but possibly family?

I've been thinking of a case in New England where an elderly woman was killed in her home by a neighbor many years younger. He buried the body in a nearby wooded area iirc.

I'm wondering if she had a wallet phone case, and it's referring to her phone.

Hi there - first time posting here. This story really caught my attention, especially since I used to live right across the main street from where Nancy lives. This may have already been mentioned, but while looking at her Facebook profile, I noticed she shared a lot of political posts and I sincerely hope none of that played any role.

LE has said it's a crime scene and they called off search around the home.

my first thought when there is an older victim who has some money is.. someone who was hoping to inherit? that could be a family member but it could also be someone who had gotten close to her. jmo, of course. i do think it will be someone who knew her.

I agree with you. I was thinking someone known to her could have asked for money, she said no and they came to her house to pressure her to pay them. Wondering if there was any dispute with any of the workers?

Simple would be chasing a dog and falling.

Given the terrain in that area I just can't believe she would get very far if as said, she has mobility issues.

The Sheriff did say that she didn't leave on her own, so I guess they must have some evidence of how she left. I'm pretty sure I remember him saying that, if not please let me know and I'll delete.

Yup, thought of that one too. Roberta Martin, murdered by a neighbor in his early 20's. He had committed sexual assault, which was likely the reason for moving the body.

That's a good example of why a relative stranger would do something like that (remove a person or body from the scene).

I still think it's closer to home than that (someone associate with her in some way, or someone associated with them). But it's good to keep in mind.

I think it was simply her personal items remained in the house and she is missing. And possibly the door was left open but we don't know this.

I'm not sure there is anything beyond this, but it suggests its what they are attributing to as out of the ordinary.

If there was more evidence of something such as a struggle, I don't think her comments, if true, would have been framed like this

I can't help but compare Mrs. Gutherie to my own mom at that age who was a lovely person and also knew her limitations. If she were being robbed or extorted, she would not physically fight back at age 84 but would comply, appease, try to calm the situation, etc.

So evidence of a crime scene in the home means the perp intended to harm her, imo. I was at first thinking perhaps accidental harm, but now am thinking intentional.

I'm caught up. This is so very sad.

Like others here, I'm leaning to inside job. Though she lives alone, I had read that she had help with household chores and the garden. I don't suspect any of them, likely they were long term and thoroughly vetted. However they may have had a relative or acquaintance who was not so upright.

The family initially did a search, inside the house before she was reported missing. But it seems they didn't find anything obviously alarming, yet police state there was obviously a crime. Makes me wonder what alerted them to such.

Did. family say nothing alarming? May well have found something if police did.
