AZ Nancy Guthrie (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

It was stated in one news report that her house has cameras, I'm sure her family checks on her all the time, so why haven't police said anything?
We don't know why. Assuming there is info on the cameras, it seems they are withholding that for a reason.

If someone took me in the middle of the night, it would show clearly (something unexpected) on my Apple Watch sleep report (sudden increase in heart rate). My 84 year old mom tracks her sleep with her Apple Watch as well.

This is extremely common - in alot of cases its called independence. She was capable of making her own decisions and my guess is she wanted to maintain her independence. It sounds to me like the family are very loving, caring, present, supportive and there were other supports in place.

Just because someone has a disability, regardless of age, doesn't mean they lose all capacity of taking care of themselves.

Not having a go at you, just feel this is something that is often presumed about people with disabilities and the elderly. In fact older adults who maintain independence IMO avoid the rapid decline that can be seen when their activities of daily living are prematurely overmanaged.
I was somewhat surprised that there were no cameras at the home. Many people I know, with far less available resources, have cameras to keep an eye on things. Cleaning people, deliveries, caregivers that may not always be the same, and above all else, they are an easy way to check on an elderly relative to make sure they are okay. Just like many people that live alone have a life alert or other system.
To edit/add-I’m reading that there may have been cameras. Maybe it’s what has been seen (or not seen) that is driving the investigation.

Sadly, even if an 84 yr old 'has no mental issues', it is not unusual for someone to suddenly be confused or have a sudden drop in competency.

My mom , when she was in assisted living at 86 and 87, used to get UTIs, and suddenly she would be acting like she had dementia, and she would go wandering alone, looking for who knows what. She was picked up by police both times it happened and we had to help her move to Memory Care instead of her living independently.

Someone in their mid 80's may be fine 80% of the time, but there can be sudden mental glitches that pop up sometimes.

But it does sound like someone harmed her, so it was probably someone who knew she was alone at night...
Same thing with my mom and the uti's. My mom really lost her mind.

Was her daughter Savannah working on a controversial subject or investigation that someone wanted to stiffle?
My thoughts went here too.

I work in healthcare and this is extremely common. Lots of people have enough of a circle, whether it is family, friends or paid help, to stay home alone. It's what they prefer instead of moving into assisted living. It's a free country and the bar to place someone in an ALF against their wishes is high.
Her being home alone during the night is what the issue is.

This is what I am finding confusing. I was assuming that because the family waited to call police, there mustn't have been anything significantly out of place immediately indicating something nefarious had happened. Yet now they are saying the house was in some sort of disarray.

It sounds contradicting to me, nothing at all against the family, just trying to understand what the police walked in to
luminol?

"There were cameras at the rural million-dollar property, [Sheriff] Nanos said at a press conference earlier in the day." Savannah Guthrie’s mom was likely snatched from her bed in Arizona home as she slept: police

I wonder if it could be someone or something she covered and a person recently was released and didn't like how their story was covered? Maybe a revenge thing?
When we see that revenge stuff, which is rare, they almost always go after the person directly.

The murder of Jeff German comes to mind. He was killed by a politician who blamed German's stories for ruining his career and personal life.

Absolutely not an issue, sadly. Millions of elderly people choose to remain at home. It is largely a choice to do so. On one hand I completely agree it should be a choice. We know from LEO Nancy had no cognitive decline so the help she chose to have was exactly that-what she chose. Those with cognitive impairment can also remain at home, until family or the State intercedes.

I would think that a financial motive would be ruled out like right away. At this age I'd imagine one of her kids would be on the bank account and I'm betting the account was one of the first things checked. Plus the timing she was taken was in the middle of the night, no bank would be open, only ATM but her stuff was found at home so I don't think its that. This so wierd...you never hear of 84 year old just being snatched like this unles its a wondering off situation
I imagine all beneficiaries on any life insurance policy, or inheritance will be under scrutiny? Will they also have to rule out those who dropped her off, or last saw her? I can't imagine her being a love interest, someone obsessed with her at that age?

I sort of wonder if it would have been better NOT to say it was Savannah Guthrie's mother, on the chance that if someone did take her for some other reason, now they know that they could extort money out of someone they assume has a lot.

I have exactly one camera. It doesn't record and it points at my pet rabbits. That being said, I do know many people with them as well, including people who have been canvassed for info for crimes.

Maybe the perp was already inside when the family brought her home on Saturday evening.

Brian Entin on his way…Purse, ID, phone left in house, homicide team involved…search team “taking a rest”…
I like his coverage. He. usually has Maureen with him and even with all of her experience she is not sure what is going on with this one.

How? She's much less likely to need help while she's sleeping in bed.

We don't know if she slept with her Apple Watch on at night or not. Not everyone does, me included...

Well they needed to release her name, and a quick Google would confirm who she was. It would've been in the press immediately.

There's just no keeping that a secret. Reporters would figure out the connection in a matter of minutes.
