AZ Nancy Guthrie (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

If someone took me in the middle of the night, it would show clearly (something unexpected) on my Apple Watch sleep report (sudden increase in heart rate). My 84 year old mom tracks her sleep with her Apple Watch as well.
We don't know if she slept with her Apple Watch on at night or not. Not everyone does, me included...

I sort of wonder if it would have been better NOT to say it was Savannah Guthrie's mother, on the chance that if someone did take her for some other reason, now they know that they could extort money out of someone they assume has a lot.
Well they needed to release her name, and a quick Google would confirm who she was. It would've been in the press immediately.

There's just no keeping that a secret. Reporters would figure out the connection in a matter of minutes.

Maybe the perp was already inside when the family brought her home on Saturday evening.
She was brought home around 930. Why wait until between 1 and 4 am to remove her from the home then?

Now that I think about it, if it was a ransom situation, we'd not know anything about that yet....
The way they are talking it doesn't appear they have any contact with the kidnapper/s. Listening to all the things the Sheriff is saying, especially putting the medication message, begging for them to contact. It doesn't seem they have had any contact. If they had received contact, that wouldn't be necessary to put it out so urgently.

**THINGS NOT ADDING UP**

1. Why kidnap an 84 y/o woman?
2. It's not an easy in an out (not crime of opportunity)
3. It doesn't seem it was to steal stuff, no need to kidnap her, just steal stuff middle of the night and leave, or better yet, wait for her to go to church
4. Was it someone that worked for her, past or present, that felt there was something owed? Doesn't make sense with no demands.
5. I fear it has a more political undertone. No judgement, or no attempt to make any form of political statement, just thinking outside the box. Some political extremist who wants to make a point that the current immigration techniques are necessary, by kidnapping the mother of America's sweetheart journalist, who appears to lean to the left. Make it look like an illegal person did it. It is a straight shot to the border. Trying to change people's mind to their narrative.

No matter what the reason is, it's a sick person.

I didn't know we had that time frame?

Maybe I missed it, but I would think there would be so many ring cameras in the neighborhood (and even on Nancy's house) that would have caught photos/videos of vehicles, people, entering/exiting??? I'm also surprised that apparently no alarm was sounded (and authorities notified) when the front door was breached.
We have a ton of Ring cameras, but we adjust them so the street traffic doesn't set them off. Otherwise we would get tons of notifications. Hopefully others haven't done that.

Or some random (or loosely connected) sick-o who broke in the house of a senior woman living alone because he's a sick-o.

Idk

I was somewhat surprised that there were no cameras at the home. Many people I know, with far less available resources, have cameras to keep an eye on things. Cleaning people, deliveries, caregivers that may not always be the same, and above all else, they are an easy way to check on an elderly relative to make sure they are okay. Just like many people that live alone have a life alert or other system.
To edit/add-I’m reading that there may have been cameras. Maybe it’s what has been seen (or not seen) that is driving the investigation.
I'm surprised that there appears to be no security system at the house.

Interview with Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos on the NBC Nightly News.

‘Just call us, let her go.” Sheriff issues plea in disappearance of Nancy Guthrie

I really feel for Sheriff Nanos....based in his reactions and words he knows a lot more than he can say and none of it good. Today was a nod to a potential "just call us and let her go". It may be. ransom gone wrong...ie maybe Nancy got very ill. But Nanos is not optimistic.

I believe it was linked up thread from the Daily Mail. They believe she was abducted from her bed some point between 1 and 4.

Hopefully they have something to go off, not only to find out what happened and catch whoever has taken her, but also to have enough evidence to find them guilty 🤞

Her being home alone during the night is what the issue is.
Yes, and it sure does appear as though someone knew that.

Seems like whoever was at that house chose to enter it when they knew she'd be home alone, rather than entering at a time when it was empty/unoccupied (while she was at church on Sunday, for example).

I’m really curious how they can narrow it down like that.

. . . . which makes me think someone knew the layout of the house.

JMVHO.
this is no doubt someone who knew the home. She probably has a cleaner...lawn crew....pool maintenance.....general handiman and no doubt many more regular workers at that home.

We don't know why. Assuming there is info on the cameras, it seems they are withholding that for

Sadly, even if an 84 yr old 'has no mental issues', it is not unusual for someone to suddenly be confused or have a sudden drop in competency.

My mom , when she was in assisted living at 86 and 87, used to get UTIs, and suddenly she would be acting like she had dementia, and she would go wandering alone, looking for who knows what. She was picked up by police both times it happened and we had to help her move to Memory Care instead of her living independently.

Someone in their mid 80's may be fine 80% of the time, but there can be sudden mental glitches that pop up sometimes.

But it does sound like someone harmed her, so it was probably someone who knew she was alone at night...
Agreed on the effects of UTIs etc. on the elderly, but this is not someone who had the mobility to wander. (According to her family).

The fact she is Savannah Guthrie's mother has brought the case immeasurable publicity. That publicity has helped LE spread the word about her disappearance and ask the public for any clues or video available.

I think that publicity will eventually help find her mother.
I hope they find Nancy, sooner rather than later. IMO, she is in grave danger

Agree, he seemed to be choking back tears earlier
