I ambulated a 150lb woman today from her bed to a wheelchair. If you have the right equipment and know what you're doing it is not difficult.

Counterpoint, a month ago I tried helping a 250lb woman from a Toyota Camry to a wheelchair. She couldn't make it so I had to call the paramedics.
Agree, firefighters are taught to carry/move 100kg patients (220lbs) I have seen 130lb female firefighter drag a 220 mannequin 100 yards.

to add...

Could be random, like mentioned.. seems odd being not right off the roadway, not 'easy pickins', or a place to just stumble across. There is a connection some how.

My worry it's some nutjob doing this as a distraction. It is top of every newscast I have seen today. It feels so politically motivated. People do sick stuff to make a point, stuff normal people can not fathom. I study psychology, specifically criminal psychology. People can convince themselves the sickest of things, is justified 'for their cause'.
Sincerely, can we please not make this political? Politics are not allowed. Thank you.

I’m a bit behind so apologies if someone has mentioned this or my info is outdated. I’m getting flashbacks to the murders of Kathryn & Alvin Liknes & their grandson Nathan O’Brien. Nathan had spent the night with his grandparents and when his mother couldn’t get ahold of them the next morning, she went to the house, found they were missing and blood in the house. The police immediately told the public the disappearance was suspicious but didn’t mention anything about blood until 5 days later. (trigger warning that the details in this case are horrific, just in case you aren’t familiar with it and do further reading).

I’m guessing it’s not likely there was visible blood when the family discovered her missing since they searched for her themselves for awhile initially, but maybe police were able to find it if it wasn’t visible to the naked eye.

Seems to me they likely knew quickly that it is a crime due to direct video evidence from security cameras of someone with her and taking her from her home. "We know she didn't leave on her own", is a vague but quite telling way of saying that. The fact that homicide detectives were called in quickly thereafter indicates that they may also have video evidence that she likely wasn't alive when she left.

"She was removed from that scene against her will... I have a gut feeling." Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos tells
@ErinBurnett that both evidence and his decades of experience point to the abduction of 86‑year‑old Nancy Guthrie, mother of Savannah Guthrie.

I work in the personal services industry and I had 2 clients in their mid to late 80s, both female, both lived alone. One was of sound mind, one had dementia. There were several people in and out of their homes each day. It may not have been safe but nobody could convince them to move to assisted living. They both ended up in hospital and passed away pretty quickly in the end.

You can’t just throw someone over your shoulder and take them to assisted living even though it makes sense.

My apologies, just working out all possibilities.. everything is a possibilities as of now. Really not trying to make any political statement. None of it makes any sense.

In fairness, when my 86 year old mom was in her last months and before Hospice, she wanted the normalcy of sleeping in her own bed with no one staying. I tucked her into bed at night, set the timer on her TV, and locked her in. My sister was there at sun up. We wanted to honor her wishes as long as we could.
Agreed. After my father died my mom lived by herself for about a year. I would go see her everyday. That was her choice. She wanted to. Then we finally got her to move in with us. She lived with us for about 2 years. She was 91 when she passed. Here at home with just me and the hummingbirds she loved watching at the feeder outside her window. Gotta admit I'm having a hard time with this. Sheriff Nannos has almost lost it a few times in his pressers. I think much of the community is feeling it, though most of us have never met Mrs Guthrie

Watching CNN right now:

Reporter says the investigation is "very robust," with multiple agencies involved.

They're utilizing cell phone tower data ( likely referring to geofence), license plate readers, and gathering and going through surveillance footage, which is tedious painstaking work.

Talking about how Savannah is there in Tucson and providing any assistance she can. She was actually supposed to be Flying to Italy today to cover the Olympics.

Discussing the balance between sharing information and sharing too much information, and the danger that a suspect could use that to conceal evidence (if they reveal his car or something).

The thinking is that we might see more information released as this goes along.

I’m still not completely caught up here, so I know what I’m writing must have been posted 100 times by now, but my heart just tears apart thinking of this elderly woman being dragged out of her home in the middle of the night.

I’ve been checking for updates here and in the news, but apparently there is nothing new.

It hurts to think that in this case, no news is actually bad news. Very bad news.

We don’t know at this point if she was targeted because she was an old and infirm woman living alone, or if she was targeted because it was known that she is the mother of a famous and wealthy daughter. Scanning through the posts, I see that some believe it was an abduction for ransom, and some do not think so.

I have no clue about what happened, but it’s terrifying.

I’m a New Yorker who flies down to Florida every other month, and my sister does as well. My 92-year old mom has dementia and is in memory care, but my 93-year old dad refuses to go to assisted living and presently lives alone, with a girl who comes to help for a few hours a week. The rest of our family is always begging my dad to go to assisted living, but he won’t even hear it. He does live in a gated community, but it is petrifying to imagine an assault of this kind on an elderly woman alone, no matter to whom they may be related.

As all of us do, I pray for some miracle, that she is found alive and unharmed. But as the clock keeps on ticking without finding her, a miracle may be all that is left to recover her alive and well.

JMO

I believe at the last presser the Sheriff said that Mrs Guthrie had been harmed. The only way I think they would know that is blood. IMO

I'm pleased it worked out for your mom without any concerning incidents and hopefully she went on to have a peaceful transition.
Respecting your mom's wishes is admirable yet there are circumstances with elderly parents when following their wishes is just down right dangerous .
imo

Why do you “think LE and the family do not want to be asked why an 84 yr old woman who is physically disabled was in her home alone”?
Because it is not relevant to their investigation. There are many people that live in their own home well into their 80's and some even into 90's. She has family that check in with her often and was obviously deemed okay to live alone. This could have happened to a 20 year old living in the home.

Fox 11 Los Angeles, at 1:07 mark states that Nancy has high blood pressure, a pacemaker and cardiac issues.

As long as the elderly person is of sound mind, my mom was and it’s reported Mrs Guthrie was, they have a right to make their own choices. They’ve made them their entire lives. IMO

It is pretty simple for a professional to determine when an elderly person can no longer be self sufficient at home.

Just last week I met with a woman in the hospital who was adamant about going home. After a 30 minute discussion she opted to go to a rehab facility so she could regain enough strength to go home.

I call the State on several people a year who need to be removed from their home. This is usually because of cognitive decline, however I've called the State for elder abuse and unsanitary living conditions.

I always try and get the family involved but it is not always easy to do that.

We are a big fan of nanny cams and First Alert fobs for the elderly at home.

I want people to stay at home until they're no longer able to. Whether it's physical or mental, it makes no difference.

It seems Nancy was ok at home and had the appropriate level of help. I am interested to see how this mystery develops.

Leverage...
But yes, as far as we know, there's no ransom demand
If it is leverage there's the issue of not having Nancy's medication which was said to be vital for her survival.
Which leads to the question is she needed to be alive for the suspect to achieve their goal?
imo

I think this is someone who targeted Nancy Guthrie and intended to hold her for ransom. The Guthrie family has been in Tucson for over 50 years and I am sure are well known..Savannah has two siblings. I found this sort of ironic and maybe an impetus for a crime? Nov. 2025 Savannah did a "HOMECOMING " segment for the Today show. https://www.today.com/video/savannah-guthrie-returns-to-her-hometown-of-tucson-arizona-251395141731
Her mother is included at the end.. They all loved Tucson so much.
