I read this somewhere today. I can’t say it’s a credible source or where it came from.

I'm hedging my bets and I believe it has to do with savannah .

A perp may not have planned on her been missed so soon . It was less then 24 hours when it been reported AFAIK

ETA low reward equals no payday for perp hoping to cash in on a high reward by stating they found her wandering

Wish LE would have given their standard call out -- but on the look out for individuals who have changed their appearance, hours, vehicle.... who may have missed work, etc....

They're good reminders.

JMO
It did seem that they weren't emphasizing this as much today. The entire thing seemed less urgent. I wonder if they know who it is and, unfortunately that she is already dead, so now it's a matter of chasing this person(s) down. Hence the "we'll talk to you on Thursday morning unless something breaks."

Nancy Guthrie's Kidnapping TMZ Gets Alleged Ransom Note Demanding Big $$$ In Bitcoin

Another scary twist in the disappearance of "TODAY" host Savannah Guthrie's kidnapped mother ... TMZ has received an alleged ransom note demanding payment for the release of Nancy Guthrie.

The note, which was sent to us Tuesday morning, demands a specific substantial amount of Bitcoin ... the amount is in the millions, and the note demands the cryptocurrency be sent to a specific Bitcoin address.

TMZ has verified the Bitcoin address is real.

There is a deadline connected to the alleged ransom ... and an element of "or else."

In the moment on our live stream above, Harvey and Charles said she was wearing the item. In fact, the note says she was not wearing it.

The alleged ransom note also describes an item the sender says was damaged at her Tucson-area home.

We forwarded the alleged ransom demand to the Pima County sheriff.

Same. TMZ getting it makes sense to me because they are well known in the entertainment world and would put that info out there unlike prob NBC etc who would prob remain quiet about it until it's looked into.
CNN would be vetting the communication for weeks. TMZ makes sense. I think best lead yet. This was a quick way to put the pressure on if not getting response. I can imagine that sheriff was aware of this at the presser and thus his response on ransom demands...he did not really answer yes or no.

Long-time lurker, but first time posting -- and there's been a lot of activity in the last 30 or so minutes, so apologies if I missed something -- do we know when the camera was first missing? It may not have been removed the night of the crime. It's possible (IMO) it was removed in advance and wasn't noticed until the investigation began.

I still hold out hope given she is the mother of a celebrity journalist. This could be a ransom situation.

Amateur opinion and speculation only

Feverishly trying to catch up because I’m still with my mother at her memory care home.

Trying to catch up some on my cigarette break, still behind but saw so many posts that said the presser didn’t provide much info.

Very discouraging, although like all of us, I hope LE does know more but has to play it a certain way.

The ticking clock is making me very nervous for Mrs. Guthrie.

Savannah is extremely famous. Nearly a household name if you're relatively clued into the news. <snip>
Not for everyone. I haven't watched network news news and network television for over 25 years, and don't miss it at all. I had never heard of her before this tragedy, and her face from the photos is not familiar either. I do hope the poor mother is found alive, and soon!

But, this awful thing DID fall on him and he humanly is distressed as a person. IMO
he's under fire for a lot of things that aren't relevant to this case. He's likely sweating over how this is a high profile case under his watch by the nation vs the things happening locally.

At the press conference today the sheriff said they were looking into when it went missing. So we don't know.

One concern I have is that they are so close to the border. If the person(s) who did this are trying to cover up a murder, how hard would it be for them to cross into Mexico and get lost? I'm asking because I sincerely don't know.
very easy if they already have ties there

Thread is moving fast. I was catching up and came back to news there is a supposed ransom.

I can see a younger person behind this…thats all I will say right now. I think they will be caught quickly now. Hope Im right. I hope NG is alive and well.

agree but also a little part of me is like well i am surprised by criminals sometimes. Monique Tepe's ex husband had been somewhat low on my list of suspects just given the timeframe of when they had divorced so i was somewhat shocked.

i'd say it's most likely a hoax but i think there's a sliver of possibility it's legit

moo
Oh, I'm not discouraging anyone from considering every possible angle, especially given how little we know.
Anything is possible, nothing is off the table at this point.
I'm just very confident in my own mind ruling it out as a hoax and focusing on other points of interest.

LE will absolutely do their due diligence and figure out who sent that email to TMZ.
It's just infuriating that LE has to waste time, manpower and resources running false tips and leads to ground.

Chasing down rabbit holes is part of their job, though, and the Sheriff has repeatedly said he wants the public to call it in even if they think something isn't important or might not be related.

Pretty sure everyone in LE is wishing Sheriff wouldn't have used the word "abducted" right about now, though.

JMO.

I see it is posted on X too.... I will take my spanking if it is not allowed

There are losers on the internet who will attempt to extort money from missing persons families by claiming that they have their missing loved one captive. I used to moderate a large missing persons group on Facebook and I saw it first hand. Id be shocked if it was real.

Savannah is extremely famous. Nearly a household name if you're relatively clued into the news. Feel like it has to be someone targeting Nancy to get at Savannah, whether for money or sending a message to her. :(

The ransom note being real wouldn't surprise me. Maybe family member or associate of someone that worked with Nancy seeing her as a way to make money due to Savannah, and planning this out. Hoping they can get the money fast and maybe flee to Mexico.

Feel like there's no way to get in and out of that neighborhood sight unseen from 1-4am, not that many cars would be out at that time, other cameras must've captured it. I do hope LE has captured it but just chose to omit/not admit it so the perp thinks they're in the clear.
Yesterday I asked my 22 year old son and my mid 50s female friend, and neither knew who she was. Both of them live or have lived in Tucson. :) One of them I even sent her Homecoming series to back in October! (I guess they must not have watched it)

2500 reward? might as well be $25. mOO
We all know Savannah could and would offer a lot more, but perhaps this is strategic in some manner by LE. Maybe to discourage others from attacking family members of the rich and famous.

Spitballing.

And it is possible that the perp might think TMZ is the same as a news station. It might be a sign the perp is not a mature adult but young and/or not that sophisticated?

I don't know if the note is even legit, of course.

jmo
Conversely, the perp may wanted the note to be public in order to create more havoc for the police who may have been hiding a ransom motive in their ongoing investigation.
IF it is real.

That's awful. Also, if it were legit I would have expected it would have been sent much sooner.
