The alleged ransom note also describes an item the sender says was damaged at her Tucson-area home.

wow....i have to admit, that sounds a little too specific for a hoax letter. but it will be easy for family/police to quickly confirm or deny if that item was in her home and if so whether it was damaged.

The higher the reward posted, the higher number of looney-tunes tips they have to sort through. Offering a reward pretty much never solves a case so I doubt anyone in LE is counting on anything coming from that. With offering the $2,500 reward, at least they won’t be accused of offering nothing and it keeps the possibility of a big payday away from con artists’ imaginations. IMO

From reading what I could find about him he sounds like a very experienced leader and a really good man, I’m not understanding why the under fire comment?
No....and IMO, the jury is out on the second one. Again it's not related to this case and I'm not wanting to derail it, but it has a lot to do with incidents that have happened over the years at the local jail that is under his jurisdiction. How he has handled them has not been satisfactory for many people.

I know TMZ is a clickbait media site, but it seems reckless (even for them) to disclose the “ransom” message. They probably could have gotten a promise of an exclusive first news release in exchange for keeping it quiet until law enforcement confirmed or debunked it.
It will just give Nanos headaches is all.

I've been thinking about the crime window -- 1 to 4 am --

If this was someone familiar, it seems like there would easily be other opportunities to steal her. People she might otherwise open the door for, unaware of their evil intent.

Then it hit me, maybe 1 to 4 am, has nothing to do with NG but everything to do with the perpetrator. Maybe it's the only hours available to them, where their absence might be missed.

Yes, the specific item is interesting. Also, in that last TMZ video they said that they had confirmed that the Bitcoin address was legitimate. I don't know enough about Bitcoin to know if that's significant or not.

Still behind....

The presser might not have been for the public. It might have been for the perpetrator. Give him a false sense of security, that LE isn't on to him. While guardly encouraging tips.

IMO they know EXACTLY when NG was abducted but they don't need the perpetrator to know they know that.

I think you’re spot on 1000%!

It still could be a family member who wrote the ransom note with information they’ve been given by police. If the note is about the Apple Watch & Ring camera, that’s not necessarily secret info as it’s been on social media most of today. I’m still not convinced this isn’t an elaborate ruse for money from a known entity in NG’s life.

Criminals Using Altered Proof-of-Life Media to Extort Victims in Virtual Kidnapping for Ransom Scams
Alert Number: I-120525-PSA
Questions regarding this PSA should be directed to your local FBI field office.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warns the public about criminals altering photos found on social media or other publicly available sites to use as fake proof of life photos in virtual kidnapping for ransom scams. The criminal actors pose as kidnappers and provide seemingly real photos or videos of victims along with demands for ransom payments.

The Scam
Criminal actors typically will contact their victims through text message claiming they have kidnapped their loved one and demand a ransom be paid for their release. Oftentimes, the criminal actor will express significant claims of violence towards the loved one if the ransom is not paid immediately. The criminal actor will then send what appears to be a genuine photo or video of the victim’s loved one, which upon close inspection often reveals inaccuracies when compared to confirmed photos of the loved one. Examples of these inaccuracies include missing tattoos or scars and inaccurate body proportions. Criminal actors will sometimes purposefully send these photos using timed message features to limit the amount of time victims have to analyze the images

This is real and happens to families of the missing without well known loved ones. Poor families desperate for their loved one to be found taking out a second mortgages on their house, draining 401k's, etc. and it's all a scam mostly coming from overseas. IMO

off topic, but every time I see NG my brain goes to Nancy Grace and it's so hard to pull my brain back and go a different connection lol

a ransom demand received by TMZ MAY be the reason the sheriff was so dodgy on that specific question. He may have heard from TMZ they had received something resembling a demand just prior to the presser and it discombobulated him because it hasn't yet been determined to be a real demand or a hoax or kook. My speculation only

Nancy Guthrie's Kidnapping TMZ Gets Alleged Ransom Note Demanding Big $$$ In Bitcoin

Another scary twist in the disappearance of "TODAY" host Savannah Guthrie's kidnapped mother ... TMZ has received an alleged ransom note demanding payment for the release of Nancy Guthrie.

The note, which was sent to us Tuesday morning, demands a specific substantial amount of Bitcoin ... the amount is in the millions, and the note demands the cryptocurrency be sent to a specific Bitcoin address.

TMZ has verified the Bitcoin address is real.

There is a deadline connected to the alleged ransom ... and an element of "or else."

In the moment on our live stream above, Harvey and Charles said she was wearing the item. In fact, the note says she was not wearing it.

The alleged ransom note also describes an item the sender says was damaged at her Tucson-area home.

We forwarded the alleged ransom demand to the Pima County sheriff.

If this is true about the Bitcoin, I still think Zizians or a similar type group could be involved.

I am probably wrong lol... but definitely seems like their MO, ie: elderly/older victims, possible tech savvy/online presence, seeking media attention and wanting money. I know it's not Zizians, that would be a bit nuts but this whole thing is bizarro.

The poor sheriff isn't experienced at this. It's not like he is the Chief of Atlanta or New York city police. Also, this is a very very public case. He made some comments and people hung on every word, so now he is dialing it back. I don't blame him. I believe they have evidence but don't have a suspect yet.

Personally, I believe this is vendetta/revenge. Not convinced perp is known to family but I believe removed mom to prolong family's suffering and make them wonder for days where she is before her location is revealed. I do not believe she is still alive, but I do believe she hasn't been left in the place she will be located, yet.

Harvey is still a lawyer and isn't a dummy (what we may think about him personally is a different story). He knows what can and cannot be sued over.
Exactly. I used love him in The People's Court days and didn't mind him for awhile on TMZ but then he kinda lost me with the way he went about things and pushed his bias a bit! I still think he knows his legal stuff for sure though.
