AZ Nancy Guthrie (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

I don’t believe Nancy was kidnapped for ransom. The blood at the scene, combined with the delay in delivering any note, makes that unlikely.

Kidnapping for ransom is also virtually unheard of given the victimology in this case, and the fact that it's not a 1990's Hollywood movie out there.

That leaves two plausible explanations:

• A third party is attempting to exploit the situation after the fact.
• The perpetrator, having already committed the crime, decided to see “why not?” and pursue ransom anyway.

I hope it's the latter, because that's just another way to capture this person. But I'd be shocked if it wasn't just someone taking advantage.
How foolish if they made contact after having "gotten away with it".

Half joking but if they started a go-fund-me they would have that ransom in 5 minutes.

I have a feeling she will be found close to home. How many times have we seen searches not be really effective and the person winds up being found close by? A lot.
Lots of scrub brush out in that area. It's going to be very difficult to find her in that.

I don't think this is a ransom case either.
I'm already seeing commentary about cartels being involved as well.
I still think this is a payback situation of some sort, someone connected to Nancy, acquaintance(s) of working staff. Someone who wanted something from Nancy they didn't get.

I wonder if LE can tell from swabs where the blood came from -- like in the case of a bloody nose, maybe mixed with mucus. Perhaps she was injured by force to stun her into compliance, perhaps as a precursor to SA, or she could have been injured incidentally.

It looks to me like she paused in that location (or was paused), for there to be so many droplets in one area.

I can't even begin to imagine how disorienting this must have been.

I don't want to imagine farther ahead than that.

Why on earth is Brian Entin allowed to be walking around a crime scene taking video?

The sheriff said the house has already been turned over to the family.

In the press conference today the sheriff said they were done processing the scene and that the house had been released back to the family. That surprised me.

Edited to say: It's such a high profile case I can't believe the family doesn't have some security there.

Might have been some eccentric who’s obsessed with her daughter.

As soon as the cell data & the footage from the roads & local area is fully analysed it’ll be game over for the offender.

Possibly still alive but I think the abductor may kill her when he or she knows that the police are getting close.

My opinion

I've never liked a circus.

I'm feeling for the Guthrie family. This is tough to watch and I can't imagine living it while worried about Mom.

I understand that LE released the home back to the family but the fact that this crime is still unsolved and you are now going to have potentially hundreds of news people and random spectators walking the property is crazy. They should at least have some "No Trespassing" signs posted.

Are there any active searches going on? Flyers being passed out with her photo? Grid searches? Anything??

(ETA: From looking at the brief video provided a few posts above on blood droplets on front walkway):

There is a flurry of drops and smudged (?) drops right there within a foot or so of the key side of the front door. The droplets further out are more spread apart.

Is this the door NG would have gone in through when delivered to her home after Saturday night dinner? Was she dropped off in the driveway? Or, was she walked all the way to the door?

Could she have been attacked right there as she put her key into the lock of her front door upon arriving home? Were her house keys found? Any blood on them?

Oh, Good Grief. Here we go.

Words matter.

Sheriff Nano's repeated use of the word "abducted" and saying she was "taken from her bed" is contributing to FBI agents being forced to waste time on this fake ransom nonsense.

I'm not saying there wouldn't have been some of this crap going on otherwise. There would have been enough false leads and fake tips called in by virtue of the national attention the case is drawing. But there's going to be even more of it happening now due to the Sheriff's choice of wording.

LE needs to charge all of these poseurs with false reporting, extortion, computer fraud and whatever other laws have been broken.

Bitcoin my behind. Here's a nice pair of shiny aluminum bracelets instead.
Throw the book at them.

All of the Above = JMO.

My guess is that there will be a family drama, a relative or something. I don't think she's alive, they got rid of the body to hide the murder.
I’ve thought the same perp wants LE to think she’s missing in hopes they don’t find where he’s hid her. This is all so sad that poor woman she didn’t deserve this 😢🙏🏻

True.

Does anyone know if they have used drones when searching?

I'm checking Flightradar24 for helicopters, aircraft, etc. that may be hovering in the Catalina Foothills area.

JMVHO.

Public service announcement. If you are emailing bitcoin ransom notes from your mom's basement- the US government has cracked your Proton mail account and will know its you Jimmy. That is all
