I understand what you are saying. It is also gravel, which would make it unstable for a person who was already unstable when she walked. I can only speak from personal experience when saying that I would make sure my parents made it inside the house - like, I would actually walk beside them to be sure they were safe. Not thinking they were in danger, just to be sure they didn't fall.
Oh I agree. I hadn't noticed the gravel. I've looked at soooo many pictures of the area.

Last month, I watched a video where an FBI Profiler explained that if an elderly female who lives alone is raped and murdered, it's usually by a teenage son of a nearby neighbor. That keeps replaying in my mind right now. MOO

There was a case in Upper Vermont about a year and a half ago. The woman was 83, and was raped and murdered by a [link removed] druggie of a guy... in his early 20s. Lived in a trailer on the neighboring property. ...it did get national coverage...but in a very rural area of New England the case just faded away quickly.

But the case has stuck with me forever.
Like Nancy's mother, she lived alone, was very independent, but her adult kids lived further away.

The helicopter area (Skyline at the top, N. Campbell to the right.)
Topography appears to have a canyon area, from south to north. I wonder if they were looking at that.

Wait, I thought no one knew what Nancy was wearing that night?

Didn't family drop her off at home? Presumably the last time they saw her, she would have been wearing the clothes she went to dinner in. And who knows what she put on to go to bed?! It's not a very good piece of 'proof' to use something no one can actually verify :(

Now I'm losing hope that the note is real. I bet the bitcoin address is real. But perhaps two separate crimes here, the abduction of Nancy and an opportunist trying to make money out of it?
This is from TMZ:
In the moment on our live stream above, Harvey and Charles said she was wearing an item mentioned in the note. In fact, the note says she was not wearing it.

This makes more sense to me. Something that has been reported that she was wearing and in the note is says she was NOT. The only thing that makes sense to me is the Watch? I started reading here last night but it's not been clear to me whether she was or wasn't wearing it?

So, maybe it is someone taking advantage of the situation, but that extra info in these randsom emails, must give LE a clue of whether it's legit or not, doesn't mean they are going to tell the public. I imagine they are trying to track the email, hope they do and fast!

But wouldn’t they know who owns them? I don’t see how this would work.
no not necessarily. It is much easier to hide identities vs using banks

I think the alleged pacemaker linked to phone might be important to the investigation. Essentially we have a monitored heart rate with the pacemaker sending possibly real-time or near real-time data to the victim's phone which is accessible to LE. If victim is attacked in the home, volatile heart rate data might show up on phone. If victim is killed in home, the lack of heart rate might show up on phone. Alerts may have been set up to family members and/or caretakers. Until the point of possible disconnection due to distance of lack of network or Wi-Fi, it's possible LE would know if victim was killed in the home. Maybe there is data that covers the abduction through possible death at 2 am. What does "stopped syncing" mean regarding this pacemaker/monitoring device and victim's phone? Is it that the devices were no longer linked due to connection lost or is that the pacemaker was no longer operating?

Also is the pooled blood near the location where the perpetrator(s) might have stopped to take the Ring off the mount? Maybe that was a brief stop, then drops continue in motion.

See, this is part of what makes me think they know she was alive when she left the house. Stopped synching is a totally different thing to 'indicated cardiac arrest', which would surely have alerted someone or show up on the records.

Stopped synching suggests (or doesn't it?) that it went out of range. Suggesting that she travelled out of range of the phone (which we know was left in the house).

Edited to add: Admittedly I know nothing about pacemakers! I'm just inferring from what I'm reading on this thread so far.

Virtually unheard of yes, but this case has a significant outlier of a quite famous and wealthy child of the victim.

The location of the house really speaks calculated to me, with a specific intention to take this specific person from this specific place. There are other homes in the area that are far more exposed/convenient/accessible/ripe for a crime of opportunity or fetish, and with similar demographics, so why this particular house and this particular person?

There's no doubt that it could be an entirely random, opportunistic, and sadistic crime with no financial motive, but I feel that the unique circumstances in this case skew those odds considerably.

JMO.
JMO-I believe they are likely somewhat local to the area and it was a matter of close proximity. She was the closest/most convenient person that could have been taken for the purpose. If this is truly a ransom case. This is such a random pick that it feels to be close proximity.

Going further and purely speculation-I also don’t think they are sophisticated criminals/experienced at this. The vibe I get is that two people, maybe could be a male/female couple?Again, JMO.

I am caregiver to my Mom. I would think the Sister would make sure Mom safe in house and ready for bed since Mom had mobility issues and it was late at night. Apple Watch removed which is probably a norm for getting ready for bed. I think it is weird someone would break into house, cause the victim to bleed, drag victim out of house and away form property, then disconnect Ring security yet there's no report of robbery. I do think dinner til 8:30pm or later is quite late unless it was a special occassion, especially since church the next morning but that was at 11am, so maybe I am overthinking. I think this was someone close to victim who caused her disappearance. I think any alledged randsom is not associated with this crime. Police know so much more than what is reported imo because they are telling community and neighbors not to worry about their safety. I don't see this as kidnapping/abduction. Homicide would not be called in unless suspicion of homicide. I think something happened tragically in the house and person with victim tried to cover up. I think the disconnect of Ring was someone victim knew who knew the victim lived alone and thus, would know no one would be at the house or would know victim was missing until the next day after 11am. Sending prayers to the family

As someoen who was a caregiver for my mom who passed from early onset Alzheimer's at 64 years old back in April, I just want to say I agree with you. I would have made sure she was OK and everything too.

Because there could be DNA clues on the body as to who killed her. (If she has been killed of course.)
Unfortunately, this is my line of thinking as well.

Just to clear up Bitcoin.
It is untraceable, period. Nobody can identify who a wallet belongs to. The whole idea of bitcoin was to be untraceable. And yes, there are criminal networks who love bitcoin for that reason.

What does verified mean? They know who owns the account?

I thought the point of bitcoin is that it is practically untraceable. Truthfully though I don't know much about it.

But wouldn’t they know who owns them? I don’t see how this would work.

Ask LE (there are some here) what verified means. I don't know, but I'm guessing it's an open account? Bitcoin will not share who owns the account I assume.

I bet they’ll share to the FBI in a murder case.

My understanding is that there wouldn't be a name attached to the wallet at all. There are other ways of identifying the person tho. It often takes a bit of digital legwork tho. I dont know the specifics but its not as simple as the fbi requesting a name.

Not without a production order.

But it is hard to get actual ownership data, correct??

You’ve got to be kidding me:

A ransom note was sent to a local Arizona news station following the disappearance of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie, the Pima County sheriff told CBS News.

The note, which the station received Monday and agreed not to report on, contained specific details about the home and what Nancy Guthrie was wearing that night, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said, although he would not confirm the accuracy of that information or the legitimacy of the note.

Investigators have analyzed the note and are taking it seriously, Nanos said.

He said the FBI reviewed the note and made the decision to share it with Savannah Guthrie. Authorities had hoped to keep the information from becoming public, but the note was obtained by TMZ, which reported on it before contacting the sheriff's office, Nanos said.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department had earlier said on social media it was aware of "reports circulating about possible ransom note(s)," adding, "Anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI."

Surveillance video from a home security system has yielded nothing so far, Nanos told CBS News. He said investigators believe the system may have been set to automatically delete footage after a short period of time, and they are now attempting to recover it through forensic means.

' YEP!! I told you guys this was why the person did it through TMZ because TMZ wont keep silent on something like that.

I agree.

They will not find them using the bitcoin wallet.

The email should give them more info and hopefully it can be traced.

So are we thinking the ransom note sent to all the reported news stations at same time, or just grew tired of not being reported on and kept sending?

Wonder if this impatient note writer is online or in groups like ours.

I really would like to know the email provider service used.

Thank you! I still believe that with proper warrants, info could be gained. IMO

Perhaps the kidnapper stopped there while carrying NG's body to grab the Ring camera.

It's been reported that she was attacked while in her bed. Her Pacemaker stopped syncing with her Apple watch @2am Sunday morning.
The sheriff clarified that he was sometimes speaking figuratively rather than literally, so we don’t know if she was “literally” taken from her bed or just that she was taken when she would normally be in bed.
