Peter Jan Sartorio's lawyers said in court documents filed Wednesday that the packaged food entrepreneur from Menlo Park, CA will plead guilty.

Sartorio, 53, was accused of paying $15,000 in cash to have someone correct his daughter’s answers on the ACT college entrance exam. The exact charges to which he planned to plead were not immediately clear.

Three people have pleaded guilty, including the admissions consultant, Rick Singer, and the former women’s soccer coach at Yale, Rudy Meredith.

Lori Loughlin greeted federal prosecutors with a bleach-white grin and a handshake. “Hi, how are you?” she whispered, as if she were making her way through a table of fans rather than a team of government lawyers ostensibly aiming to put her behind bars.

The actual legal business on Wednesday was relatively trivial stuff. Neither of the biggest names on hand entered a plea in the case. Instead, before Magistrate Judge M. Page Kelly, defendants acknowledged their right to remain silent, agreed to remove firearms from their homes, and promised to refrain from committing crimes while out on bail, including marijuana use—still a felony, they were reminded. Kelly lifted restrictions on talking about the case with their children, but added that they should consult with their attorneys regarding the laws surrounding obstruction of justice given their kids are, after all, potential witnesses in any trials.

Loughlin and her husband were flanked by lawyers from high-powered firm Latham and Watkins, including Perry Viscounty, himself a USC grad who counts Apple, Tesla, and Craigslist as former clients. William J. Trach, who was one of the National Law Journal’s 40 under 40 in 2014, and who has repped Zipcar and Phillip Morris, was also on hand. Finally, the duo enlisted the counsel of Sean M. Berkowitz—the man who, as a federal prosecutor, led the Justice Department’s Enron task-force, and after his victory in that case announced, “No matter how rich and powerful you are, you have to play by the rules.”

Huffman was represented by Marty Murphy of Foley Hoag, a former federal prosecutor and recent independent sex crimes investigator at St. George's Prep School in Rhode Island.

The College Scam Defendants' Privilege Is Following Them into Court

Such incredible hypocrites. Loughlin went on a Christian TV program and went on and on about being trustworthy and honest and virtuous. And she and her husband are liars and frauds.

Then she goes to Boston in a private plane with a little fan club photo-signing which I suspect is fake and part of a PR scam.

She seems like a very plastic person to me, and all the stuff with the private plane and very expensive lawyers is only making this all worse, IMHO.

And Olivia Jade doesn't seem to be a very interesting young woman to be around. The other daughter Isabella seems to understand that being in the media is not a good thing right now.

ITA....I have no doubt the “fan club” was bought by the PR team. How sweet. When has this type of media event ever happened for Lori before?

Fakes, these two ... trying to spin the fact that her actions raised a few eyebrows:

Upon ascending the steps of the federal courthouse, Lori was greeted by a barrage of cameras and fans trying to catch a glimpse of the star, but rather than ignore them, like Felicity Huffman did, the Fuller House star signed autographs. "She was obviously extremely nervous and the actress side of Lori came out. She doesn't know how else to be in public." She is not used to attracting attention for "something so negative," explains the insider. Now that the star is wading into what the source calls "uncharted territory" she is simply following her natural instincts. "Her natural reaction was to just smile and try to be light-hearted," the source explains. "She's always been so well loved and charming, that's the part she knows how to play in public."

Her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, who is also charged in the scandal, is seemingly coping with the controversy by avoiding being seen in public, which can explain their controversial choice to travel to Boston in a private jet. "They took a private jet because Mossimo wanted to," the source reveals. "He is mortified by this whole thing and wants to avoid unwanted attention in public."

I'm not buying it that Loris is so charming that she doesn't know what to do with all the admiring fans. I think it's all staged. And I think these quotes about her a likely placed deliberately. Yep, I'm that cynical in this particular case (I'm not cynical in every case!).

She wasn't light-hearted when she arrived from Canada. She was described as arrogant in her first court appearance, and I think her PR machine went into action to turn that image around.

But....whatever. She's a rich celebrity facing a fall off a pedestal, a tumble that pulled her daughter down too. I can't blame them for trying to restore themselves, but I also think humility could win more hearts.

I don’t know why she seems to want to protect her “brand” as smiling, friendly, innocent, nice Lori when we’ve seen the truth about her.

This is all gonna backfire on her, but they’re rich enough they won’t have to sell the house and move to remote small town USA. I don’t think she’s learned the lesson and maybe she will pay the price with the loss of her image. I think OJ has been exposed as a mental lightweight and a very priviledged kid. Perhaps Isabella can keep low and retain some shred of dignity in all this.

I do believe Huffman and Macy got the message and are truly shamed and repentant.

IMO it seems like Felicity is shocked and ashamed and realistically concerned about the predicament she got herself into whereas ol' breezy Lori seems like she figures she will just pay her way out of this inconvenience.

First Parent Agrees To Plead Guilty In College Admissions Scam

An entrepreneur like him has the least to lose with a guilty plea. CEOs, lawyers, medical professionals and celebs are all much more vulnerable.

Another parent in college admissions scam says he intends to plead guilty - CNN

Gordon Caplan, a former partner of an international law firm, said Friday he plans to plead guilty for his role in the scam.

"I take full and sole responsibility for my conduct and I am deeply ashamed of my behavior and my actions," Caplan said in a statement. "I apologize not only to my family, friends, colleagues and the legal Bar, but also to students everywhere who have been accepted to college through their own hard work."

Authorities alleged Caplan, 52, made a purported charitable donation of $75,000 to the fake charity Key Worldwide Foundation in exchange for Rick Singer arranging for Mark Riddell to proctor his daughter's ACT exam and correct answers after she had completed it.

"I want to make clear that my daughter, whom I love more than anything in the world, is a high school junior and has not yet applied to college, much less been accepted by any school. She had no knowledge whatsoever about my actions, has been devastated to learn what I did and has been hurt the most by it."

"My immediate goal is to focus on making amends for my actions to try to win back the trust and respect of my daughter, my family, and my community. The remorse and shame that I feel is more than I can convey. I intend to enter a guilty plea on the criminal charge brought against me in the Varsity Blues college admissions investigation and dedicate myself to trying to right this wrong."

It's almost as if Lori is seeing the whole court case as a good thing, like it's kind of showing the world "look at us being rich over here, see how much money we could just blow on getting our daughters a college girl reputation, aren't I special?"
Idk, I can't really word it the way I have it in my head, but seeing the pic in the Rolling Stone link she just seems so haughty. Determined to act her way through this, keeping up her nice and wholesome image, then nobody will believe she ever did wrong. I think that will backfire though. All just MOO.

I know what you mean. I can't imagine the position that Hallmark is in. They've already had a large investment in future movies for the Garage Sale Mystery series, that they have now had to cancel. That's a huge financial loss. Then there's the other series... Then there's the reruns of the previous movies that they show year round, that now they can't show. Another large loss.... all due to LL's criminal behavior. Not to mention the fallout that all the other actors have to incur, as in losing income from the movies that won't now be shown. How much is that worth? I have no idea, but it has to be huge.
Does anyone know what actors are paid for these reruns ? I mean it has to be something. How needless and sad this all was, what were they all thinking.

Er, "yes and no, kinda":

Calculating SAG Residuals

For television shows, SAG residuals are calculated using a formula that utilizes the number of runs and percentage of minimum rate of compensation for the actor. For example, for reruns in syndication, the actor is paid 40 percent of the applicable minimum rate for the first rerun program, dropping to 30 percent for the second rerun, 25 percent for the third rerun, and so on until it reaches 5 percent for the 12th rerun and beyond. There are also residuals for foreign telecasts of the program; these are arrived at using an entirely different formula based upon the distributor's foreign gross.

In other words, without we know their salaries we can't make a determination, but they can add up if the actor's pay rate is high enough (more at link).

IMO replace Lori. Why should everyone else suffer loss of wages/work. I think that would be just one of the messages to her. You are replaceable. I was shocked at the video of her walking into Court. All smiles and all is good
