The courtroom is packed with members of the media, Huffman’s friends and family, and lawyers who said they represented others charged in the scandal.

"Community Service" is a joke. As is "mandatory substance abuse classes".

I used to teach all kinds of court ordered classes, and most of the people who showed up were so entitled. They didn't want to acknowledge that they committed an actual "CRIME"!

And the community service is a joke. Seriously? Do you see "Huffy" actually working at Goodwill, sorting used clothing? Or showing up at the soup kitchen? Usually the rich folk like to set up their own "Community Service", not unlike Jussie Smollett, who did 16 hours...of course, at his friend's place. No one could even verify that he had been there!
Agree completely. Even more, community service in THESE cases would me nothing more than publicity ops. Nauseating.

Judge going through Huffman’s sentencing guidelines now. Finds an adjusted offense level of seven, brought down two points to five since “defendant has clearly demonstrated an acceptance of responsibility for the offense.”

Rosen: Huffman mulled over a plan to cheat on the SATs and then "enthusiastically" participated in the scheme. "Happy with the results, she then made plans to do it all over again."

Prosecutor says Huffman had every opportunity to disengage from behavior but did not. Huffman clasping both hands under her chin. Eyes mostly looking down at desk. Prosecutor laying out precedents for why they believe she should go to prison.

Rosen points out that Huffman has asked to do community service, something she already does. "Punishment is doing something they don't want to do not something she already does and enjoys," Rosen said.

Judge says the defendant's analysis of the prosecutor's recommendation was " a compelling one" given her non criminal background. Judge wants to listen to more similar set of circumstances

Prosecutor pushes back against Felicity Huffman’s proposal for 1 year probation. “A message must be sent and imprisonment is the only way to send that message.”

Federal prosecutor makes mention of the Akron mom who was jailed for lying about her residency so her daughter could go to a better school district. "If we respect the rule of law, we should not treat defendants differently because of wealth or status."

Prosecutors: “The punishment she proposes, is no punishment at all.” He says community service is not punishment. “Punishment is doing something they don’t want to do, not something she already does and enjoys.” #FelicityHuffman #WCVB

Prosecutors: “She immediately became part of a public spectacle - so what.” “Wealthy people who get their picture taken get off...poor people go to jail.” #WCVB

Prosecutors argue that the fact she claims she’s struggling to get work, is not a good one. “She’s extremely talented”. Noting she has a movie about to come out on Netflix. #FelicityHuffman #WCVB

Prosecutors: “This case is serious...designed to corrupt the entire college admissions system.” “Most importantly of all...I can say with the utmost confidence that a sentence of 30 days is sufficient...to achieve justice.” #FelicityHuffman #WCVB

Prosecutors: “Will all due respect...welcome to parenthood.” “Most parents have the moral compass and integrity NOT to step over the line. The defendant did not.” #WCVB #FelicityHuffman
