So looks like Singer tried to give a heads up to some of the parents

As noted above, after CW-1 was approached by law enforcement agents in or about September 2018 and began cooperating with the government’s investigation, he secretly approached several subjects of the investigation, including McGLASHAN, and warned them about the investigation. CW-1 subsequently advised investigators that he called McGLASHAN and told him, in substance, that he needed to meet with him in person at the Santa Monica airport because he believed his phone was “wired.” CW-1 further advised that he did not, ultimately, meet with McGLASHAN at the airport.

On or about October 24, 2018 after acknowledging to law enforcement agents his attempt to obstruct the government’s investigation and agreeing to plead guilty to an additional charge of obstruction of justice CW-1 spoke with McGLASHAN by telephone
again, this time at the agents’ direction.

Yeah, I figured that out when I saw a lot of people earlier here and there, falling out about the "consensually recorded" description. For example, someone who thought from the description of these actions, that William H. Macy had agreed to dime his wife out and thus that's why he wasn't facing jail time ; along with the then-depressing 18 or so "thumbs up" this commenter had garnered.

The people in question, of course, weren't thinking of or didn't even know, that there's more than one side to a "consensual recording", and that there even were such a thing as "one-party consent states". TL; DR: I agree with you, Rick what's his name was the "consensual" party in the recordings; He, Himself, and Him. The parents certainly did not know they were being recorded in conversation.

Oh no. Are we "like counting" on this thread?

Tbh it looks rather ugly and dated, not at all what I expected for 35 million dollars.
seen much nicer homes for less money in better areas

I think the poster was confused. It is the Full House and Desperate Housewives, not Sex in the City.

I was trying to be tactful.

Aha. This is how the investigation started:

A guy named Tobin was being investigated by the Feds, and "In exchange for prosecutors taking it easy on him, Tobin, a Yale grad, told investigators that the head soccer coach at the Ivy had asked him for a bribe to get his daughter into the prestigious school, the report said."

Then, I guess, it all unraveled.

I can't figure out how the covert recording was allowed since MA is a two party consent state.

Loir has been dropped by the hallmark channel i just saw

Star loses lucrative TV gig over college cheating scandal

One day after Lori Loughlin was ensnared in a bombshell college admissions investigation and released on a $US1 million bond, the actress has been dropped by the Hallmark Channel.

On Thursday, a rep for Crown Media — the umbrella group that includes the Hallmark Channel — confirmed to Fox News the company had cut ties with the 54-year-old star.

“We are saddened by the recent news surrounding the college admissions allegations,” the statement read.

“We are no longer working with Lori Loughlin and have stopped development of all productions that air on the Crown Media Family Network channels involving Lori Loughlin, including Garage Sale Mysteries, an independent third-party production.”

Crown Media also added the series When Calls the Heart would not be airing on Sunday.

“We are evaluating all creative options related to When Calls the Heart series,” the company stated.

Ok just dropping in as I haven't really followed, other than the headlines of the famous people involved.

But shouldn't they really be going all in on these huge money driven institutions and the individuals that were accepting bribes.

It seems that its easy to sensationalize people doing unethical things to get their kids in prestigious universities.

But shouldn't the focus be on the root of the problem?

And IMO its the people that were willing to do unethical things and take money to allow these situations to take place!

All MOO

The institutions did not receive the bribes. It was Singer's company that received the money and used it to bribe certain individuals that were arrested.
The parents were arrested for wire fraud for paying for defrauding the universities and claiming the money was for charities.

My fault, I was under the impression that some of these people worked in admissions, varsity coaches, athletic departments etc and some were in the standardized testing industry...my apologies

I am still reading the document - and the consentual phone recordings is odd. But not all calls are described that way:

"In a call on or about August 23, 2018, CW-1 and DAVINA ISACKSON spoke on the telephone about engaging in the college entrance exam cheating scheme on behalf of the ISACKSONS’ third child. The call was intercepted pursuant to a Court-authorized wiretap. In the call, CW-1 asked DAVINA ISACKSON whether they were going to try to “control the testroom or is he taking it on his own.” DAVINA ISACKSON responded that they wanted to control the testing environment."

Seems like there were a few methods to record the calls. This was a serious investigation.

Back to the doc....it is very long!

From my understanding there were coaches involved who accepted the bribes. Seems if they were still in their position they are getting fired pretty quickly. UT fired their tennis coach and I think I read someone else was let go too.

Quite surprising how the $ amounts of the bribes are all over the place - some families paid a lot more than others.
