NC NC - Abby Patterson, 20, Lumberton, 5 Sept 2017

  • #81
Yeah, I was intrigued by what they meant by the body was there for "some time." It seems as if Abby has been missing long enough for it be classed as some time but not too long that she wouldn't be identifiable.

Hard to know what they mean by "some time". The overpass doesn't look like a place where a body could remain hidden for too long: https://www.google.com/maps/@35.182...4!1swY-MBBV6ne3U1QqmVIqFDQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Maybe in the bushes? Hard to believe how many cars had to have passed without noticing a body though.... :(

I am in Fayetteville, which is not far from Lumberton (25 miles). Is anyone else closer than that who can let us know if there is any different information locally? Are there rumors or information that isn’t getting to the press, possibly? Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but if it was a bad batch of heroin, many more people would be dead, right? Also, if the police know who was driving the brown Buick and he says that he dropped her off on the same block where those other girls were found, I am wondering if someone isn’t targeting young women who are drug users, whether or not they are “of the street.” I don’t know much about heroin or the culture of that area, specifically, but there has to be more to the story than “I dropped her off and she vanished.” Was Brown Buick guy supposed to bring her home too? Was it close enough that she could walk? Who was actually the last person to see her?

I thought he picked her up in that area, did I miss that!??

What I have read is that she left her mother’s house, got in to the brown Buick with an acquaintance, and he said he dropped her off somewhere. Let me try to find my source articles.

This is a more recent article that says neighbors saw her get in to the brown Buick down the street from her mother’s house and that the driver said he dropped her off, but police aren’t saying where. I’d love to know where her cell phone last pinged and who the driver of the Brown Buick is (also where she was when he dropped her off, if that is true).

I wonder about the location being kept private. Strange.

Does anyone have anything new to report in this case? Has she been found?

Just found this thread -- Lumberton, NC, is my hometown -- I haven't been there in years, but I am familiar with the area. Hoping for the best here, but it is worrisome.

Can't help but wonder if she relapsed.

I'm just now reading through this thread, trying to get caught up, so please excuse my being behind, but where do we find that she was involved in drugs, etc., that would explain a relapse? I looked all over, but must have missed a reference to her using drugs, etc. (I do not use FB, so that's where I may have missed it.) Many thanks in advance. :)

LE released the info that she had just gotten out of drug rehab and was visiting her mom:

Let me add a little here. The 3 bodies found have been tied to prostitution or drugs locally.

The third woman MO has had the most info released to date:

http://www.robesonian.com/news/9976...on-following-april-18-discovery-of-two-bodies

In 2015 two more known prostitutes found dead in same area:
http://www.robesonian.com/archive/5...ce_unsure_if_slayings_of_2_prostitutes_linked

As soon as I find the link again I will post but a friend of MO claimed she left to fin a fix and never returned and family says she was found “naked and bloody”. LE is trying to say nothing. Amazingly in Fayetteville NC and Wilminton, NC both towns about 30 or so miles from Lumberton has had several unsolved prostitute deaths in recent years also. I realize prostitution is a high risk career choice but this is more than that I believe. I know that the missing AP was a member of Facebook group “BOH Sister” an online group for recovering addicts who were treated at the Bridge of Hope facility. Perhaps her family is in the dark about her issues but in the area she went missing drugs and prostitution are rampant. Perhaps she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time but but if she had a dependence issue it could be very important to finding her. Unfortunately I think it is too early to rule out any connection to the others yet. The local pd is also trying to downplay the connection between the first 3 also.

Also Vail that is Jacksonville , Fla. where she previously resided.

One correction here -- yes, Fayetteville is about 30--35 miles from Lumberton, but Wilmington is about 78 miles from Lumberton, so it's a bit farther to Wilmington -- about 1 1/2 hours or a bit less.

I also agree that I think it is premature to assume that Abby shouldn't be included in those 3 other deaths -- I could easily be convinced that she should not belong to that group as well, but I'm not convinced of that yet.

And Whiteville, by the way and as you probably know already, is about 35--40 miles from Lumberton!
We were close "flatland" neighbors once upon a time! :)

Me too! That seems strange.

Also, kinda off topic but what a weird way to describe Lumberton - "east of Charlotte".

You said it! Yep, it's about 130 miles east!

But, yes, I thought she verbally told her mom that she would be back in an hour. Maybe the reporter misunderstood one way (verbally) or the other (electronically). Who knoze?! The old grain of salt here and with any reporters, IMO...

LOL @ "south of Charlotte" - that's a new one! And yes, South of Fayetteville would be a much better description.

I wish I had faith that Robeson County LE checked any highway cameras, but I'd be shocked if they did.

As would I, sad to say. It's a pretty typical small town...

I have an issue here, isn't this the same place....Robeson.... that Sara Graham was last seen? Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm new here.

You are absolutely correct, crelisacorder, same county -- Robeson County.

And
:wagon: to Websleuths, crelisacorder!!
We're glad to have you on this thread!!

I hope those other ladies deaths were not ignored because they were"on the streets".

Agreed, modesty blaise -- they are human beings just like everyone else. We're all just trying to get along in this world the best way we are able.

Yes. It would depend on what "some time" means (to me it would mean several months), and it would depend on the weather, clothing, etc. Doubtful, IMO, that it is Abby.

Very good questions, jrenee. Although I grew up there, I haven't lived there since left for college many years ago. I know very few people who are still there, and I don't have any contacts down there now. A local person is always so valuable to us here at WS.

And another thing,

:welcome:to Websleuths,
jrenee!! We're glad you're here!!
