PLEASE help me! My name is Rhonda Fleming, and my brother was found executed in Durham NC, on May 05, 2005. His name is Allen Jackson Croft Jr. He was 46, weeks away from retiring from IBM after 25 years. We KNOW he was murdered, as I have proof, and yet the Sheriff REFUSES to listen to us from the moment we were told of his death!

He received his masters degree at UVA, and was an alumnist there, and loved basketball, and education. He went to many games, enjoyed life, and was loved by so many, and the justice system has been against us from day one! I cannot live day to day KNOWING he suffered so much, and know his murderer has gone free, and LE doesn't care because they did nothing, and what evidence I have gleaned after 2 years shows it, yet they botched and closed his case, and the truth needs to be brought to light!


The sheriff there refuses to send us ALL the reports, tests, and information we requested via the FOIA. They sent us ONE report, after a year, and is unbelievable how they botched his case, and treated him worse than roadkill!

This is the same department that handled the Duke rape, and the most recent fiasco of being caught on tape, plotting murder for hire, trafficking in drugs, and women for forced slavery as prostitutes, and counterfeiting! I find it DISGUSTING that more attention is given to an alleged rape, than unsolved, and discarded people who have been murdered!!!!

I have been threatened to be charged if I did not stop calling them to ask about the GSR results, and what they was doing about his case.

I have contacted EVERY official in the state, and have been blacklisted from the county website, and blocked from making Internal Affair requests, and have had nothing but lies, and disrespectful replies from all involved.

I have tried relentlessly for almost 2 years to find out the facts of his death, and have been told, "Accept he killed himself, and let if go!"

We KNOW he was murdered, as the evidence I have gleaned from the ME shows, and proves it!

I have pictures from the ME, and have other proof, but LE has refused to investigate, lied to us, and still not given us the documents, and answers about his death!

He was found 3 miles from his home, and was only 46 and weeks away from retiring from IBM after 25 years.
He was the best man you could ever know, and a christian, and all of the facts do not add up!

I have contacted a reporter from the Durham Herald Sun, BriAnne Dopart, she was going to do a story about him, and other mysterious deaths that have gone unsolved, but since the latest corruption scandal, she has had to put it on the back burner.....

i would get a letter with your documentation together and send it to: NBC Dateline, Catherine Crier at Court TV, Nancy Grace at CNN Headline News and Greta Van Sustern at FOX. Greta might by particularly sympathetic since she is so disturbed with the handling of the duke rape case.

i would also write to Mark Furhman. he is an author and maybe your could get his addy from the publisher of his books.

Also, maybe the crime writer Ann Rule would have some suggestions or advice, as well John Walsh with America's Most Wanted. i would even write to the crime fiction Patricia Cornwall. She knows a ton about forensics.

Have you done a google search about any kind of support group for victims who do not seem to be able to get any justice?

I have tried EVERY official, and have been told to get an attorney, as I do not want to have double jeopardy, and mess things up even more! I have shouted on every roof, left no stone unturned, yet still NOTHING!!!

Every day not knowing is an eternity, and it is a travesty that family are ignored, murdered loved ones disgraced, and nobody is held accountable?!?!

More publicity has been made over the "alleged," rape, just to be a political smokescreen to divert citizens from the truth, and seek votes!

Nobody wants to deal with more murder trials, that "cost money," nor do they press charges against their own racketeering officers! God forbid the people know the shady underworld of the same departments, sworn to "serve, and protect?!"

If there is anyone out here who knew m brother, or any detail at all, I would be eternally grateful!

The Cold Case forum would be a good place to start a link, the people in there look at this sort of stuff all the time.

A private investigator would be a good idea, as well. Then, if the findings support your theory, give them to the sheriff and media.

Hi Justice4Jack / Rhonda. The love for your brother, and your determination in searching for justice shows very strongly in your post: you're blessed to have such a close and caring family. Seems you've hit many stop streets - and outside of petitioning in your streets or parish/church/place of worship - no-one's really letting you in. That frustration has to add to the anguish felt regarding your brother's passing.

Have you tried Websleuths home-page - there's a comment there stating that DateLine are looking for stories. Penelope's right: you might try to put the full story down on a 2 page document: Give a mini bio of about 4 sentences; include Jack was weeks away from retirement after 25 loyal years at one company; include anything about him that brings Jack back to life in your document without overkill (example, he was a great dad, a trusted friend and a decent citizen - no run-ins with the law, paid his taxes...) but be sure to leave all the emotional pain and too many personal beliefs out of it (becomes confusing, maybe). Comment on and highlight the known facts and timeline then list your evidence in bullet-points and end your document stating something like: "the dots simply do not join. Our family has not given up until we're satisfied as to the cause of death."

Send copies and a couple of family shots of Jack to the news divisions of major networks and radio stations - and, say, shows such as Oprah etc. Send a copy to your DA, the chief of police, to your local govt representative, governor's office and - to a local attorney or two. Call all of them first and get a department head name to be sure your correspondence gets somewhere. Start recording your conversations, it may just help - but don't be angry or frustrated at them - just keep pacing yourself until the crack in the wall you're looking for, appears.

I see you've made 128 odd posts here: this is the first time I've read your story. If the above has already been suggested - apologies for repeating it all. Be strong, be brave and ..... be prepared to accept that some forces are stronger than us. God has a reason - you need to let Him guide you.

Whether or not this corruption scandal has anything to do with the case at hand or not is something I do not know at this time. I was just reading through the cases here in websleuths and saw this thread and realized the old news story links no longer worked and so ran a quick search and found these to use.

A search using dogpile search engine on the term "La Zona nightclub" also turned up news articles by several news groups about the corruption story.

I agree with other posters here, J4J. I think that you've gotten as far as you can by going to officials. I think that the media and a private investigator are the way to go. If you can get documentation from experts to back you up, through a PI or on your own, that the forensics do not possibly support a suicide, then you've probably got a chance that the media will listen.

The corruption in Durham is so deep, that nobody cares enough to help little old me....

I decided to just blab on every site I could to try and find help! I came close when the reporter from the Herald Sun was going to do a story, then the latest scoop of the racketeering deputies overshadowed my grief....

Durham officials hates me,and my own local government hasn't cared either!
I did write and call the DOJ, my govenor, local congressmen, and news stations, yet still nothing...

I promised him and God to never stop trying, and to keep faith, until the truth be known!

He never gave upon me, and I will never give up on him!

Phew, J4J - you're now appealing to the part of me that I always promise myself to 'never go there again' - usually cos most often I end up on the wrong end of the stick when I succumb to such heart-rendering situations. Don't get me wrong: I believe you and this quest of yours is *more* than real. Therefore, as nothing more than a fellow-W/S-er, I'm going to appeal to a certain side of you .... I believe exists. This is because like everyone else that's posted on this thread (read 'em all) we *all* care about your family's pain. So, please read this as one distant voice bringing in 'tough love'. Please don't read my words as dismissing you, OK??

My contribution pales in significance to what's been offered since July. Which means many here want justice for *you* ... and for *your brother*. Majority posters here are more than just interested in crime - they care about the victims and their families and I've often had a huge lump in my throat when I lurk to catch up ...

In your own words, you've told us you've basically cast your net on all forums. That's a good thing - but you know that anonymous folk can only stand by you - they cannot physically resurrect this case and carry it forward. Only YOU can do that.

You say they all 'hate you' (etc etc etc). We have to ask: why, J4J? Perhaps, (for arguments' sake), your rare passion has brought you more angry respondents than keen participants when you've contacted LE. You may even have lost a key person during all those calls and communication if (again, for instance) you've called them incompetent, liars, uncaring, covering up for their own sins - or whateva. Vinegar does not go down as well as honey. I'm not saying soft soap 'em or 'act' ... I'm merely saying if you're going to live the rest of your life living out your (commendable) promise to your brother - then heck - at least make the life-term you've embraced a pleasant one.

Have you considered you may be taking out the anger you feel of your brother's senseles and early passing on the very people who are the ones (ultimately) that are qualified and legally able to assist you? So, I feel you might need to compartmentalize (if such a word doesn't exist - I'm sure you get my drift) the fabric of your feelings and use a few special strands that focus on justice. That requires patience. Look at Rachel Cooke: that family has waited 5 years!!! RCOOKE (as reminded by fran's warm post recently in that forum) became a regular W/S-er. That poster is also a husband, dad, colleague and fighter-for-justice. His mettle required immense patience and God-given calm. And I doubt either of you are able to measure who loves their late loved one more. But like millions: you BOTH are waiting for answers - but in different ways.

JerseyGirl's post (recent: above) said it all: go to a PI and hit the media. But do it with strength, faith and optimism this time around, J4J, and polish Jack's story down to very salient facts and at all times, keeping him as human and necessary in his passing as he was during his time on Earth.

Hitting a million blogs, forums and newsites will add to your ongoing frustration because we can basically do nothing other than offer you advice. If you're hoping your posts will land on the screen of a charitable attorney - there's as much chance of that happening as there is in matching DNA down to two strangers in any one street.

Only YOU have the real DNA and genetic structure to carry your case forward: and if it means starting again - but with a different approach - then do so! If the people you've talked to 'dislike' you so much, then, dear friend - you gotta talk to people who will like you. Don't be mad at them for Jack's passing. But also, don't be mad at yourself for never giving up.

If every family had a relation like you in their midst - this world may even be a better place. Sorry if I'm lecturing, but I certainly could not add to the great advice your friends here have offered you. So - as I said when I started, I did what i keep telling yself I shouldn't do: get into this one-on-one.

I don't regret it, though. And I apologise in advance if this appears condescending or judgemental. It's certainly not meant to be.... Please keep us posted... and I know you're not going to give up so there's no need to add that.

I don't mean to come off being obnoxious! I am just extremely passionate, and full of pain, and deep heartache!
Going all of this time without knowing exactly what happened, not being told by LE of reports, and the lies and cover-up has taken it's toll on me....

Can you imagine being a mother, ( I am doing the correspondence for my mom mainly ) and not be told what happened to cause your only sons death?! Over a year to receive ONE report, because of my persistence, and then learn to your disgust, exactly how they botched, lied, and didn't do what they should have done to protocol, and the murderer walks free?!

What facts I have obtained are mainly from the ME, and thank God I have pictures of him at the morgue, and crime scene that proves murder before "they end up being lost!"

The same sheriff's office that has covered the Duke rape, Janet Araboa's murder, and the recent racketeering of it's own deputies! I have spread the news to every forum I could think of, as to not let them get away with such corruption, and be held accountable!

The DA is another foul ball in the bull that is Durham! He only cares about his own political agenda, and refuses to re-open his case, and other unsolved murders! I have contacted the media both here in Ohio, and in NC, and came close to BriAnne Dopart doing a story, then the news of the rogue deputies has caused her to drop my story!

I have wrote to editors at every paper nationally, and television, and am at the point where I need a GOOD lawyer, as I do not want to have this finally reach the courts, only to be thrown out!

I would love to have Gloria Alred, and am going to contact her next.....( Not sure on spelling ) I want somebody who is as passionate as I am to not be intimidated, and to see justice and change!

Again, I know we are not the only family to suffer such degradation, and as God is my witness, I shall not stop until laws are upheld, and changed!!!
This is all needless suffering, and appalling! What has our nation succumbed to?! Are we as blind sheep to just go along, question nothing, then look the other way?!

Constitutional Rights trampled afoot, human rights disgraced, and lives destroyed all because of abounding corruption that people are too afraid, or ignorant to uncover!

I have never been one to give up, and is why I know my brother was murdered, and that same spirit, and integrity lives on and will not accept the unacceptable, and am willing to shout from every roof, THE TRUTH!

We cannot stand by as citizens, and as a nation, and allow such deviance to continue in our own law, and legal departments! If we cannot trust them, what hope do we have?!

Your passion is obvious and your motives are righteous, but I would also suggest a different strategy. Suing the Durham Sheriffs or the DA is a no win situation - even if you win years down the road and force them to reinvestigate, the trail of your brother's killer/killers will be long cold. And I shudder at the thought of a known self-publicity hog like Gloria Allred becoming involved in your case...

If you are not getting satisfaction from LE, then you will need to take the reins of the investigation yourself. (I know that you should not "have" to, but fate has dealt you the set of cards that you have and you need to make the most of them that you can.) If you are unsure of what you need to do, contact a reputable private investigator. If finances preclude this option, then you will need to learn how to investigate this yourself. Interview friends and coworkers for any possible clues. Scour your brothers personal effects for any evidence of a motive. Find a motive for the murder and that will point towards actual suspects.

I know that this seems like an overwhelming task for someone with no training in police work, but it can be done. I started helping a family friend who is searching for her daughter who was abducted in 1973 (Anna Christian Waters) with absolutely zero experience or know-how in completing the task. Two years later, we have established a probable motive, discovered important witness information, are obtaining a police sketch of the abductor and even have located a person who may be Anna. All of this has been accomplished with no help from LE. And in the process, my skills have been developed and honed by consultation with other amatuer sleuthers her on WS. Individually, we may be incomplete, but together, we are capable of accomplishing anything.

And concerning your righteous anger over the incompetence/corruption of your local LE: do not lose it, but set it aside for the moment to concentrate on the task at hand - finding justice for your brother. A sucessfull search for your brothers's killer will do more to bring down a corrupt system than a hundred Gloria Allreds.

If I'm not mistaken, the Sheriff's office handled neither the Duke case nor the Janet Abaroa case. The office that you're having trouble with is actually completely unrelated to those cases as far as I can tell.

If there's proof of a beating, then that should rule out suicide.

Who ended up with the money? The wife (as one would expect) or someone else? Have you came up with a suspect (no need to mention who, just a yes or no) that has motive for the crime?

I second that, and also have to say there's nothing I can do, against corruption, also want to advise you to be a little cautious amid the FAMOUS corruption there. I knew the name Durham NC was familiar for some reason. Thought it was baby Trenton Duckett but that was in Fla.

Maybe it would help to know that some of us have lost loved ones to corruption too, and that we're still waiting-it-out for some breakthrough, people to get caught for something else.

I sent you an email before finding this thread stating that the problem is corruption, which none of us could ever hope to effectively come against.
Sorry I can't be more help at all.

We may just have to have faith that "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted," and realize we're not alone. Some of us have "been there". So sorry.
