I don't have a lot of hope for this one, but "partial human remains" were found North of Wilkesboro just up hwy 18 from where Angie was last seen.

Apparently at least a skull recovered from a "grass field" On Barlow Hill road, which is a dead end.

"Delbert said that by utilizing these advances in DNA technology, decades-old evidence in the Hamby case is being tested and, in some cases, re-tested in a state lab. Results are still awaited."

if angela hamby had gone to the bank it would be reasonable to believe that the man mentioned broke into her car in the hope of stealing money from her but there is strong evidence that this did not happen… it is easy to assume that people who have just left a bank have a good amount of cash on hand… i would add that her car could also have been burglarized but left abandoned which brings up another unsubstantiated argument… back in those days there were no debit cards so you either took the money or had it deposited into your account there was no other option… it could be as simple as hamby picking someone up disguised as a hitchhiker in distress… he seems to have lived a normal life with work and college on his mind which makes the man seem like an outsider in that regard… it also seems that hamby might have had a small circle of people in her life being family and coworkers who knew her well… was she someone who had a history of offering people a ride? did she often go out of her way to accept acts of kindness? How did he normally act around strangers or how did he feel around them?
On the other hand, it is possible that Hamby first interacted with the man in question at a gas station as his car had a full tank of gas... I imagine he could have filled up with gas to prepare for his morning errands or to go shopping with his mother later... people are constantly coming in and out of gas stations and it is possible that few or no one noticed that anything suspicious was going on...
Whatever the case
Rest in peace
