NC NC - Asha Degree, 9, Shelby, 14 Feb 2000 #2

The way the sisters are talking in the texts, with Lizzie saying it’s all her fault and the other saying it’s not, really makes me feel like Lizzie either 1. killed Asha in an honest accident (ie ran out in front of her on dark road) or 2. some circumstances caused by Lizzie, such as being out too late, lead to her and her sister accidentally witnessing her death/concealment at the hands of the deceased Underhill, and these actions by Lizzie lead to the two older sisters getting involved in a coverup, pressured by their dad. Which is what many have suspected once these recent revelations came out.

MOO - speculation - I wonder if Lizzie is the sister that submitted genealogical DNA and that is why she seems to feel responsible in the texts. I don't know what to think about what actually happened that night, who was actually driving.

And none of that answers why Asha was out on the road to begin with!

“ I feel so horrible. So horrible. I caused this. Idk if I can see V. I dk what I’m doing or feeling. I guess km”

Is km a reference to what I think it’s a reference to? If so, is anyone detained?

This is such a high profile case I wouldn’t be surprised if the perpetrator takes the cowards way out.

I could see someone justifying this by thinking this effectively “solves” the case, and may even lessen the charges on anyone who helped them.

I've seen this quote you cite in several articles : "I feel so horrible. So horrible. I caused this."

But then you added to it - "Idk if I can see V. I dk what I’m doing or feeling. I guess km”

Where did you see this extension to the cited quote? Who is V?

They are certainly reacting like there's a fox in the hen house. And they all know what they're referring to, though it remains unspoken.

IMO, very direct damning evidence is:

"Dedmon Caple to Foster: I don’t remember that shirt."

IMO, that is a direct admission that she believes the shirt belonged to her sister.

ETA: corrected my error about whose DNA was found in the shirt.

I think she is more likely referring to the shirt. If the tshirt hadn't gotten mixed up with Asha's stuff, police would never have suspected the family.

It's possible police were able match the DNA on the shirt because she'd submitted her DNA herself, but more often they trace the DNA through distant relatives, and narrow it down by genealogy, and a process of elimination.

Finding that the DNA matched someone who, at the time, lived right down the street, must have been an incredible bingo moment for LE.

does this mean that it was Asha out walking along the highway all by herself at 2 a.m.?
Yes, but that's not new, there were 2 credible and consistent witnesses who separately observed her on the highway about 4 am, and they each independently reported it on the first day, as soon as her disappearance was announced.

i’m aware — just curious on what the context Asha had for being outside at 2 am while it was storming.

From the article:
In a new round of court documents, a witness who frequented bars and house parties with the Dedmon girls in the early 2000s went to the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office in September.

He recalled a house party where he observed one of the sisters sobbing and balling while extremely intoxicated.

The witness said one of the sisters told him, “I killed Asha Degree.”

They added that the other sister then “became stern and angry” and told her sister to “shut the 🤬🤬🤬🤬 up.”

Detectives said that witnesses later passed a polygraph to test the validity of their information.

I get the feeling...Asha was running down that highway she was spotted on by 2 witnesses..hit by one of the Dedmon girls in that green car which was towed away by LE back in September. They put her in the car, drove bk to their house, got the father..and then buried asha on the property to cover it up.
Justice for Asha and her family!

does this mean that it was Asha out walking along the highway all by herself at 2 a.m.? moo it wasn’t a coincidence the recent warrants were served on exactly the 25th anniversary of the night Asha disappeared?

I'd still like to know why Asha was out on the road.
I have always been curious if such things are deliberately timed like that. If they were waiting for the anniversary, then they delayed stuff.

Even if her body is found and the appropriate parties charged for their involvement in her death, I wonder if we will ever find out why Asha snuck out that night. To me that’s 100x more baffling than a stupid family panicking and covering up a crime.
We may never, (and in my opinion, likely wont) find that out

I suspect this is the one aspect that will never be explained. If Asha survived the impact at first maybe she told them why she was out but if they were willing to let her family suffer all these years I doubt we would find out.

I’d like to think that they only covered it up due to her immediate and obvious death, but maybe I’m being optimistic.

I am hopeful we will find out even if LE has been concealing it all this time (to preserve the case.) The family needs all the details. I don't want to judge, but if my 15 & 16 year old daughters were brazen enough to be out in the middle of the night driving drunk and at house parties being drunk, I put nothing past them. I will be most fascinated to read the book that someone will ultimately write. The dynamics of the family, who knew, who kept everybody in line not to tell, how did this secret affect each member of the family over the years? Did they think they would ever be caught? Where is Connie in all this?
